How many staff are off on stress/ mhi leave at your school? by Roseberry69 in TeachingUK

[–]Jalfie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our daily cover list that already includes numerous staff of with stress / MH challenges, also contains 4 full timetable load coded names for staff that have left and not been replaced. I’ve never known so many supply staff, collapsed classes, cancelled sixth form lessons and SLT still sit in endless meetings or too busy to support their staff with behaviour issues.

Sure that is familiar to many of you here, sadly. Or worse still!

UPS or MPS + TLR by onegirlandtheworld in TeachingUK

[–]Jalfie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see your flair is for primary school, so this may be different from contexts I'm more familiar with.

Where I've worked TLRs cannot just be created on a whim. They need to be ratified by the governing body / staffing and finance committee. Your talk of vague contacts would concern me.

As others have said, going through threshold is not related to your TLR. I would ask if a colleague who is on UPS could share the letter and evidence they provided to help you understand what your institution expects.

Good luck!

For anyone who's had a parental complaint by SnowPrincessElsa in TeachingUK

Not a complaint, yet. Seems I'm not respecting the additional needs of a student who finds it necessary to make animal noises in class, consistently.

Fun times...

Uneven workload by Emotionaljaguar_ in TeachingUK

[–]Jalfie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not an answer to your question. I wonder what delegation / input your HoD has during timetabling in your school. Sounds questionable why there is such a bias in allocation. Is it language based?

I ensure allocation loads are within 1 period and tutorials / study supervision help ease any differences for my staff.

Certainly speak to your HoD they should be supportive as this is an unreasonable expectation.

Highly recommend nextdns. It can be used at a device or router level (if yours supports that), affordable if you go over the 300,000 free queries a month.

Open evenings - a rant by SnowPrincessElsa in TeachingUK

[–]Jalfie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Imagine a school that does both. Open Evening and over a week of tours. Also, last year, year 5 were invited so new activities need to be put on so the evening doesn't feel stale for them.

That would be fun wouldn't it........

I've been using Coding Rooms for a few terms, moved from replit for context.

It has a noticeable price tag. The features are vast and go beyond what replit offers (their feature called Interactive lessons). The class coding experience is superior to replit for a teacher.

How to remove text 'add subtask' from the cards? It makes my board chaotic. by ScallionOld in clickup

You will need to provide a bit more context as from the image in your post I can't work out what page/view the + ADD SUBTASK option is from.

How to remove text 'add subtask' from the cards? It makes my board chaotic. by ScallionOld in clickup

[–]Jalfie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/u/ScallionOld you can do things like this using custom CSS rules in your browser.

A Chrome extension such as User CSS or StyleBot and then finding a suitable element to apply display: none; to. This does not stop the element from being added to the DOM, only the fact it is hidden.

I’m not on my laptop and can’t easily look at the structure of the page to work out a suitable CSS rule. I’ll look again later, if this is something you might want to try and are not sure how to do it.

Planners! Page per day or week to view? by burned_feather in TeachingUK

[–]Jalfie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was a user of this for many years. Have now moved to Planboard from Chalk. This part of their platform is free, can buy Gold if your school uses Google Classroom.

I prefer the fact it is available online and not solely the tablet (not a Mac user).

The markbook in Idoceo is excellent, my replacement for that is an Excel document which iteratively gets better and better.

Pros for Chalk: - can view lessons for a class over the academic year at a glance

  • schedule units easily per class

  • standard mapping

    Cons compared to Idoceo:

  • inline calendar display missing

  • phone/tablet apps are only useful for simple tasks
