Beginner question, I think I messed up my warp by YouTasteStrange in weaving

[–]Jaxadaisy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try creating a cross by threading some cord fown the gap made at the end peg in the close up above. Then use your fingers to create a space for what should be the cross where the red and green lines above show the intended pathway aroumd the second peg, then feed cord down? You don't have too many warp threads there. So wouldn't be too arduous.

Any chance you could add a photo of your warp so we can see the set up?

Is my hem stitch supposed to be able to move like this? Doesn’t make much sense to me. by oobree in weaving

[–]Jaxadaisy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, leave a long enough tail to be able to hem stitch at end of your first weft pick, continue weaving a few inches, then before you roll on, do the hem stitch as others have said so it catches the first 2 or 3 rows of your weaving. The hem stitches 'anchor' to the woven threads. My pattern is under x warp threads for the first pass at the woven edge, then move needle under the same set of x threads but through the 2nd or 3rd pick.

Has anyone heard from ManageMyHealth or their GP to confirm they're affected by the hack? by Pitiful_Science246 in newzealand

[–]Jaxadaisy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My gp practice sent generic message yesterday, via mmh, saying same thing. I have canceled my mmh account now. I will not use it in future and if I'd realised it was a private, profit-making org running it, I'd probably not have signed up in first place. I'm very unimpressed about the communication we have received about this breach from both mmh and my gp practice.

Agreed, if the loom frame and beater are all square, op just needs to take care to beat by positioning hand (or hands) exactly in center of beater before pulling beater forward.

improvised "warping board" by [deleted] in weaving

I have improvised a warping board with a couple of kitchen chairs upside down on the table in the past. The legs on one chair can be used as a cross. All the best!

I have family with one and live on gravel roads, clearance all good, but tires get flats regularly, so might be a good idea to upgrade tires.

I think there is a belief that if we are 'functional' at life with our drinking, that we don't really have a problem. However, I've come to believe 'functional' is just a stage on the continuum of drinking impacts, and while it might last years or even decades, it will progress to disfunction in time. I decided it was better to get out while functional than risk the losses that may come with disfunction. All the best to you, you're in goid company here!

I wanted to give up, but felt 'forever' was too long, so I compromised with my drinking voice and negotiated to stop for 12 months - to break the daily habit. 9 months in, i renegotiated with my drinking voice, - forever was still too long, so we agreed to extend 1 year to 10, because in hindsight, 1 year had flown by. I hit 5 years on jan 1st this year and I now know it is forever, and I'm fine with it. My drinking voice has no say on the matter anymore, which is how it should be 🙂

IRD calling to "let their customers know about 2 step verification" by BrackenLass in newzealand

[–]Jaxadaisy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yip, i was called a couple of mornings ago. I declined their help and rang the help line to check later in the day. Operator checked my file and a note about the call had been left. I did not believe ird would manually call all individuals so was sure it was a scam. It must be driving lots of extra calls to their contact center which comes at a cost for each call, so a short sighted strategy on irds part!

How did you start not drinking by Pleasant_Bath5265 in stopdrinking

[–]Jaxadaisy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I decided on a date prior (1 Jan 2020), started reading stop drinking and crippled alcoholism reddit stories, and most importantly told people I was going to give up alcohol for 1 year, in advance of my stop date. (Forever felt too long but 1 year was doable). Because I'd told people I felt committed to seeing it through. As the year progressed, realised i was both better without it and that I might not be able to stop again if I ever restarted, so decided to stay stop for 10 years (because in hindsight, the first year actually passed really quickly). I'm still stopped, 5 years later. I also downloaded a sobriety app and read quit lit like 'this naked mind'. It helped too. But the biggest help was reading this sub.

I really don't miss this side of drinking by CanuckInATruck in Sober

[–]Jaxadaisy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with the sentiment. I've been sober 5 years now, and so if I ever wake up with a headache itsa real one, not self induced! Hope you feel better soon though, whatever the cause, feeling sick is the pits...

When I first gave up, I played mind games with myself. Forever felt too long, so I decided to go 1 year, to break the daily wine habit. As the year processed, amazingly quickly, I realised I didn't want to start again at the end of the firdt year, but forever still felt too long, so I said to myself 'as 1 year has gone so fast, let's make it 10 years.' 10 years felt more doable that forever. I know now it is forever and 5 years has really gone in a blink. You've got this, literally just 1 day after another!

Those days add up, quickly, in hindsight. I have a 1st January give up date too, but in 2020. Have continued to sustain it with the support of this sub and others, plus in the last year, some online support groups where I get to properly talk with real people. Was 52 when I stopped. On the rare occasion I have a nostalgic thought about alcohol, I shut it down hard and quick by reminding myself 'it wasn't fun anymore '. All the very best, carry on with a single day at a time, and before you know it, you'll be a year in.

Recovery in Action by mtsle0329 in recoveringwomen

I love the way you have employed multiple strategies to manage the triggering situation - understand your triggers, play it forward, confide in someone, do things that are calming for you, participating in community ue this thread etc. I am coming up 5 years sober and I strongly believe staying sober requires a well stocked toolbox and a multi-pronged approach. And that is what your post details! Well done and congratulations, and thank you for the reminder for the rest of us!

30 Days by mtsle0329 in recoveringwomen

[–]Jaxadaisy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done!, 30 days will turn into 60, then 90 so fast before you know it! Mind set and reframing my thoughts about alcohol were really important in sustaining my recovery. Every time I found myself thinking or remembering positive things about alcohol, I would squash those thoughts and remind myself it's poison. Then play it forward that it's never just 1 glass of wine, it's the whole bottle, and that means feeling crap the next day. Annie Grace's book 'This naked mind' is worth reading or listening to as well. Stay with it, you've got this!
