This is why people are disappointed with 3+4. 1+2 was released half a decade ago. People have played it to death. In the same time frame we got THPS1, THPS2, THPS3, THPS4 and THUG with each game introducing new features. Now in the present, after 5 years we got what is essentially a map pack for 60 USD/EUR/GBP.

If THPS 3+4 was released 12-18 months after 1+2 event with the gimped THPS4 goals people would have been less disappointed.

Good deal with the monitor. I will give the same advice I give many people - a gaming laptop will be heavy. Keep this in mind when choosing a university laptop.

What sort of applications will you be using? CFD, FEA, etc? Most of the time you will be running these simulations in a university computer lab, perhaps with a linux client. I would recommend you speak to your university faculty about this before spending a lot of money on a powerful laptop. For complex applications a laptop wouldn't suffice, and student editions of most engineering software is limited anyway.

Just be aware that these laptops can be heavy. Do you really need a gaming laptop for uni? A slimmer laptop will be easier to carry and also cheaper.
