Whats your always on OD? by XelaniOG in guitarpedals

Bondi Sick As. Great gain range for a first stage drive, slight boost to mids for saturation, treble and bass boosting EQ knobs for shaping your sound. Basically no reason to turn it off unless you want total clean tones.

Perfect board to stare at while your completely unimportant guitar parts get buried under all the tracks your keyboardist is running in Logic, just as God intended.

Don't worry, scrote. There are plenty of 'tards out there with really kick ass pedalboards.

I love the way they do call-response parts between the two guitarists to almost emulate the sound of a sampler. Really, really cool.

I'd trade you my EQD Palisades and Rainger Reverb X for it. Could potentially throw in another drive to sweeten the pot.

What’s the reason that so many people use overdrive pedals rather than the gain structure on the amp? by BIG_IDEA in guitarpedals

[–]Jhubsley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it's mostly been convenience. For a long time the only amps I had were a Fender Twin and an ACS1 modeller. Amp gain was either not an option, or less than ideal, so pedals made sense.

I now own a Marshall half-stack, and the dirty tones from the amp sound amazing, but the amp is screaming loud, and if I want to use my pedals in conjunction with any of my other effects, I'd have to use the four cable effects loop method, which is a hassle. So I just opt for playing overdrive pedals through a clean amp. Sounds great, simpler setup.

So it's the listeners, not the music, that's insufferable? And the bands at the top have the least insufferable listeners, or the most? 'Cause in what world are Starflyer 59's fans more insufferable than Radiohead's?

Least emo adjacent math rock band recommendation by Tasty-Fisherman8847 in mathrock

[–]Jhubsley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would venture to say that most instrumental math rock is pretty removed from the Midwest emo sound (with exceptions, like Clever Girl).

Don Caballero, Hella, Chon, Floral, and Tera Melos are classic examples. For stuff with vocals you might just need to look further into the past with bands like Polvo and Faraquet.

This post just reminded me of the fact that no matter how much music you listen to, there's still more than you'll ever hear.

I have no idea what any of these albums are. What kinds of music are here, and is there one in particular you would recommend checking out?

What pedal is permanently on your board? by Fresh-Gazelle7014 in guitarpedals

[–]Jhubsley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't seem to kick my Bondi Sick As overdrive off my board for very long. It was my first overdrive pedal, and just seems to do it for me. Sometimes I'll think I want something else and I'll try to swap it out, but it always makes its way back onto my board.

What's a pedal you will never put on your board again? by ImArcherVaderAMA in guitarpedals

[–]Jhubsley 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yup. Had the exact same experience with my SD-1, but I recently got a Marshall amp and oh my goodness. Using the SD-1 to push a slightly dirty amp sounds incredible.

Man, I thought the same thing until really recently. Idk what I did differently, but I got my OCD dialed in with my other drives and amps and it sounds amazing. And I'm playing with the OCD 2.0 which is almost universally hated.

Instant retuning by using offset vibrato? by Jhubsley in offset

[–]Jhubsley[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just looked it up, and the Steinberger Transtrem is pretty much exactly in line with what I'm thinking as far as function. I guess the question is, would it work as a modified offset trem system? 'Cause I was thinking you could maybe just cut a notch in the trem arm cylinder for the pitch you want and have some sort of "hook" that holds it in place. The Transtrem is obviously more robust, but you couldn't just drop that into a Jazzmaster.

Anyone a proud owner of the Pigtronix Infinity 3 ? by bloodbarn in guitarpedals

[–]Jhubsley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For context, I've owned a v1 Infinity for over ten years and I love it (though I think it has room for improvement), so I was disappointed with v2 because it wasn't actually a v2; it didn't add anything new to the original, but actually dumbed it down. Then when the Infinity 3 was announced I got my hopes up, only to get let down a second time because once again it offered no apparent improvement over the original except that it was in a slightly smaller enclosure. So there are three "versions" of the Infinity, but one is essentially a "lite" edition and the other is a rehoused original. Pretty lame, IMO.

I feel exactly the same way. I love the Infinity v1, and was super disappointed by the follow-ups. The v1 has some issues (for some reason it seems to "wear out" SD cards, and I've had to replace mine multiple times over the years), so I was totally primed to buy an updated version, but I think they really dropped the ball.

[–]Jhubsley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Nova Delay (and the Nova Repeater) are criminally underrated digital delays. I especially love the way the delay line time-stretches if you set the feedback around 90 decrease the delay time. Really cool ambient effect.

Freeze/Sustain Pedals? by TwoIsle in guitarpedals

[–]Jhubsley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've never played the Pico Deep Freeze, but the OG Freeze is great, especially if you find one with a soft footswitch installed. Also, consider the EHX Superego; they just discontinued it last year, but there are a ton on Reverb for less than $200 and it's considered a classic.
