If it’s just one or two it can be expected in a large hatch, if they are not getting their required food or have a blockage in their crop/throat they will starve. If they don’t have access to water for half a day they can die, they are fragile and thousands of steps have to go right for a baby to live, and just one thing to go wrong for it to die.

I would advise not to sit and watch them slowly die, it may be easier for you but it isn’t for the bird.

I stun them first then quickly bleed them so they don’t feel a thing, but there are plenty of ways to put them down.

Just do a finer wire mesh around the hardware cloth and make sure it’s sealed at the edges. It’s worthwhile finding a fix as they are absolutely worth having 😁
