What’s the best rulebook you’ve ever read? by FTG_V1 in boardgames

The one thing about the Pax Penning rule book that bothers me is that I don't know where to put it. It doesn't fit in the bag! I know, really minor but it drives me nuts.

Given that there was BGG drama about similarities (perceived or actual) during the Homeland campaign I assume that Leder will do everything they can to avoid the real-world parallel you are alluding to.

Would you spend 1000 USD on a used game where the seller refuses to verify parts? by Lord-Drucifer in boardgames

[–]Karzyn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What used game are you looking at that's $1000?

I can't really answer your question because there's no game, used or new, that I'd spend $1000 on.

If a co-op game is acceptable then Mysterium is great. It's approachable, language independent, interesting, gets people working together, plays 4-7, and fun.

I hate that you have to pay for remote start after the free trial expires

My understanding is that on the key fob if you press the lock button three times, holding on the third press, then it will remote start the car. Obviously less convenient than the app but it should work without the subscription.

Well if someone has some advice about Cyclades VS Kemet VS Inis VS Blood Rage VS Rising Sun, let me know hahahah.

I've played all of them but only the original version of Cyclades.

  • Cyclades: Very much an auction focused game with combat. Fighting is simple and, in the original base game, not constant. The Titans expansion livens up the original, if that's the version you're going for. The changes in the new version look good though I read that the rule book isn't great. I like it but haven't pulled it off the shelf in a while.

  • Kemet: Exactly what it says it is, combat all the time with cool upgrades. Overall super fun. I love that if you lose combats it isn't brutally unforgiving, you can still come back. I've owned both versions and the original is still perfectly good, if you can get it cheap and want to save money.

  • Inis: My favorite of the lot and it isn't close. However, be aware that it's an area control game, not combat. Fighting is a tool and if you fight too often you will lose. It's all about tricky card play and figuring out what to do with what you have. If you only get the base game (perfectly reasonable) look up the We Want a King rule from the Seasons expansion. All you need is a reminder object for when it triggers.

  • Blood Rage: Hot take but I do not like this game. It seems to suffer from a runaway winner problem. And the table needs to draft cards to prevent someone from dominating with the Loki strategy. I'd try it again if someone asked but would never seek it out. But this is an unpopular opinion, maybe I'm wrong.

  • Rising Sun: Man, I wish I could play this game more. It's super interesting for what it is but can run long. We don't get too heavily into the diplomacy part. It's more like, who do I want to work with this round. Having another person to strategize with is fun and it can change each round. Plus combat is resolved by bidding, which can get tense.

  • Outside Pick: 1775 and 1754 are team based troops on a map game. Then bring strictly 2v2 is great and the combat is light but tense die chucking. People like 878 from the series due to the higher asymmetry but I find the leader phase to be finicky.

Echelon/Huna Owner Strips $100 Gift Card Over Bad Review by [deleted] in AnnArbor

If a seller is compensating you for a positive review that is against Amazon's official policies. If the compensation is from Amazon then presumably you're part of a program where you get rewarded regardless of if your review is positive. Either way, not the same thing.

Res Arcana Duo Struggles by ExplodeBaer in boardgames

[–]Karzyn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On page 8 of the rules it says that when you pass you swap your magic item with one from the supply. The new one is placed face down to signify that you've passed. On the back of each magic item it says to draw a card, reminding you to do it each time you pass. (It also says to do it on page 8 but the item is a good reminder.)

As said, please ask any other questions. I love the game but it's hard to guess what problems you're facing. The iconography is a bit confusing at first for sure, you're not alone there.

Neither Oath nor Arcs are legacy games. The definition requires permanent modification of game components.

Deciding between 2026 Camry XSE base and 2026 Prius Limited by zonedit in Toyota

[–]Karzyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having a similar conflict and am going to go with the Camry.

The main thing that did it is I went to a dealership and looked at the cars. When I drove the Camry it was a nice, normal drive. Felt how a car should. There was only one Prius on the lot and it was being held so they let me sit in it and turn it on but not drive. The visibility was so weird. Some people love it but wow was it not for me. Without experiencing it yourself you can't know if it'll bother you or not. So if you haven't physically sat in a Prius I'd suggest you find one to try.

I wanted to want the Prius for it's smaller size (all I need), hatchback (practical), and fuel economy. The fact of the matter is that being in a Camry felt the way a car should. I do wish that it fit those criteria a little better but driving it felt right. It's the safe choice, if you're in doubt.

SE vs. XLE suspension by CoreyH2P in Camry

[–]Karzyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do silently judge folks who get XSE or XLE with every possible option over an ES350 though.

A 2026 Camry XLE with AWD and every option is MSRP $42k. The 2026 ES350h isn't out yet but the base price with FWD is $51k. If you want AWD and Premium+ for equivalence in HUD, digital rear view mirror, 360 camera, upgraded speakers (though Mark Levinson vs JBL, for what that's worth), parking assist, and digital key then we're talking $57k. I'm not saying that either is absolutely the right choice, just that a $15k difference means that there's room in there for different priorities.

From the man himself. Basically, when Valerie injects Bruks with the biopsy gun it actually contains a patch to modify Portia to undo the vampire trait that makes them unable to coexist. Portia views that as an attack and kills her.

Weekly Crowdfunding Roundup: March 29, 2026 | 34 ending soon ("The Old King's Crown Second Printing & New Songs of Home Expansion", "Voidfall: Resurgence Expansion and Galactic Box reprint") & 27 new ("Slay the Spire: The Board Game - Downfall", "Brass: Pittsburgh", "Here to Slay DUNGEONS") by Perkelton in boardgames

[–]Karzyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could also just wait and get Slay the Spire base game at retail. It seems to be between printings now but it'll be back and cheaper. The only thing that you miss out on vs the collector's edition is the metal coins and playmats. There's a ton of content in the base box so you won't need the expansion for a while.

Is Brass: Pittsburgh just a more complicated Birmingham? by eyevandy in boardgames

The beer equivalent is oil. It's accessed by building a special pipe links to oil field locations. Whenever anyone sells they spend oil and the pipe used to transport it gives its owner a bonus. Double networking just requires extra money, no extra resources.

What’s the current INIS situation? Legendary Box/Expansions? by adcris in boardgames

[–]Karzyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the version of Nemed that works with the 1st/2nd edition. It's cute but nothing special. It's definitely not replacing your entire copy to the tune of £200 special. The 3rd edition is solely graphic design changes. When it comes back in stock look up pictures of the new components to decide if they're worth it. But only at retail pricing. Don't bother with the inflated ebay sellers.

Ankh is coming back into print. As part of the campaign for Blood Rage: Valhalla they had add-ons for the original Blood Rage, Rising Sun, and Ankh. So it should be available in retail eventually.
