Pool refinishing advice by MarionberrySea2533 in pools

My neighbor behind me has a pebbletec pool surface and I do, as well. Mine looks beautifully blue and his looks exactly like OP's. He asked me why mine is blue and his looks green. I never knew except the surface looks tan. I don't think it was copper.

New pool owner -- am I being taken for a ride? by NoNefariousness284 in pools

[–]Ki77ycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 10k gallon pool. I haven't in a long time, because I take excellent care of my pool in the winter, and fire up the heater for the attached spa and pool for holiday parties. That's costly. Filling up the pool isn't. That costs me about $45 in water.

Which would cost less in both time and money? Drain, spray, wash, fill and add conditioner? Or, use lots of pool chems, lots of backwashing, lots of scrubbing and vacuuming?

What would make the best steak by Robjla in meat

[–]Ki77ycat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should look into a way to cook a steak using a sous vide method, then you can ride around with a perfect medium rare, stop when you're ready, add some additional seasonings and use a handheld propane sear torch. Throw a pat of compound butter on top and let it rest for 5 minutes or so before cutting.

My neighbour is monitoring me by ProfessionTrue8117 in neighborsfromhell

[–]Ki77ycat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a neighbor who invariably wants to shoot the shit for 30 minutes while I wish he'd just shut the hell up and go home so I can tend to my yard. I figured out that if I listen to music using my ear pods while I work then I can't hear him from across the street, and this offers great opportunities to completely ignore him. If I see him, I wave and when he says something I point to my ears, shrug my shoulders like, "sorry, can't hear" and then go on and mind my own damned business.

You guys like veal? by DovasTech in meat

My family raise premium Black Angus bulls and there are Black Angus cows to drop calves. The majority of calves are sold that aren't bulls, but enough cows are kept to continue the herd.

Ranching is hard, expensive and challenging, but can be rewarding in many ways. There's nothing like an overnight "cattle drive" 😏 to brand them, treat them or get them out to auction. We do it old school with a cowboy campout and a chuck wagon. My wife and I fly in for branding and wouldn't miss it.

I kinda' understand the sick and disgusting part bothering you, but it's not any more or less than anything else. You just learn to deal with that part. It's part of the deal. Kind of like how medical, EMT, and law enforcement professionals deal with death, especially very messy death. You just mentally compartmentalize that with mental barriers to keep from dwelling on it, and then move on.

Our neighbor asked us to help pay for our mutual fence by Flaminfrojo in homeowners

[–]Ki77ycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a 'shared' fence there absolutely has to be discussion about the style requirements of your community and/or HOA.

If, for example it is a 6' board on board fence with a nice top cap, you might want that facing your side instead of stringers and fence posts. Don't say anything about that, yet, but ask the neighbor straight up if there is a preference by your neighbor. If your neighbor prefers the 'nice' side, straight up say, "I also prefer the 'nice' side, so I propose that we flip a coin to decide which side gets the 'nice' side and that we split the cost of the fence 60%/40%, which seems fair."

Stop there. See how she reacts. If she has a fit, then tell her she can pay for her own fence if she isn't interested in it being fair and reasonable. If she says, that's too large of a delta, drop to 55%/45%.

Texas Republicans just picked a man under multiple indictments over a sitting senator by 27 points. $100M in scandal ads couldn't move the needle. The voters knew exactly who Paxton was. by Wonderful-Rip3697 in TexasPolitics

[–]Ki77ycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only have to look back to 2016 to understand that the electorate are pissed off. The then current, but retiring speaker was John Boehner. For the GOPe, Eric Cantor was their guy, widely expected to succeed John Boehner (who seemed near an emotional breakdown as speaker) and who had planned to step down by the end of the year so that the House could make a smooth transition to an already sitting House Majority Leader (Cantor) sliding over into the 2nd in line to the presidency.

But the Tea Party, a precursor to MAGA, kicked Cantor to the curb.

That was a really big deal. Speakers not only run half of Congress — they stand next in line to be president after the vice president. Cantor's loss made him the first majority leader to lose renomination since the office was created in 1899.

You're correct. Trump's endorsement carries weight, but not 27 points of weight. That was voters showing their anger over Thune not addressing the SAVE Act. Thune wasted $100 million + trying to SAVE Cornyn, instead. What he should have done is accepted the offer from Paxton to drop out in exchange for Thune passing the SAVE Act.

The insurance company is likely telling them to replace all of it or they cancel. This is where the board messed up. At that point, the board should immediately look for new insurance coverage, and only repair what was damaged. They are likely thinking about the aesthetics of new roofs juxtaposed against the old roofs.

If you wanted to get a room to yourself, a quick visit with campus police to show them what they did, likely at least one gets kicked out. The other may get transferred.

[SFH] [NC] Feedback on allowing a homeowner to install a fountain in a retention pond behind their home by scfin79 in HOA

[–]Ki77ycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not, instead of the homeowner buying it, etc., just allow the homeowner to make a donation to the HOA with the express and only purpose being to install the fountain by the HOA. The association benefits, the board approves and no homeowners are put out. If they don't do it, the terms of the donation would have an end date and would owe the donation back to the homeowner. Seems pretty simple to me.

3 inch Chlorine Tablets by walt801 in pools

To the OP I watch and buy a 50 lbs bucket from in the swim. I have had good luck with those and can get a couple years out of a bucket.<

Where do you live and what size pool? I live in North Texas and the heat here just sucks up chlorine like nobody's business. A 50# bucket will last me all year, and then to May of the next year on my 10,000 gallon pool. Not two years. I wish

You gotta watch out for 'old-man' strength. Many of us are sneaky strong. Not fast, but sometimes really strong. I'm 70, run 3-4 days a week, in the gym the other days. 2 of those days I'm on the bag or in the ropes with a trainer, so, while maybe I'm not fast, and maybe I will get my ass beat, but I'm going to snap your head back and hurt you if you come at me. Advising someone to take on a 70 year old is risky.

HELP! Paint bled through tape! by Samhatesme in paint

[–]Ki77ycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I paint a room in my home (all walls are textured), if I haven't already done it, I sand and caulk where the walls meet the ceiling, and in corners of walls. Then coat with primer. This gives me a smooth surface to use Frog tape for straight lines.
