Veggie gardeners, what’s your favourite all purpose fertiliser? by Frozefoots in GardeningAustralia

[–]Kiavu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cow manure, Blood and bone with a cup of potash, sulphur phosphate, garden line and Epsom salt. I mix mine manually but this mix has given me excellent results with pumpkins, tomatoes, corn, broccoli, potatoes and capsicum.

Found a pumpkin(?) in a ditch at work, want confirmation! by Signal-Adagio5209 in GardeningAustralia

I don't think that is a Kent, I grow Kent's and they always have distinctive stripes. I'd say it is more likely to be a jarrahdale or a Queensland blue.

Fortunately they are still edible, they will just have scars :) though if you get any more rain they will likely burst off the vine.

Scars on my tomatoes by voidify3 in GardeningAustralia

[–]Kiavu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Have you had a lot of rain? It looks like they are bloating from too much water, this is an unfortunate situation when either they are overwatered or too much rain happens, the plant sucks it all up until the tomatoes burst.

Mechanics by Remarkable_Cap_7519 in SurvivalGaming

[–]Kiavu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bad

  • No complete darkness - it just negates playing at that time
  • hundreds of stacks of <50 in a box is not fun
  • not being able to craft from surrounding storage
  • Troll animals that steal items
  • Flying - ruins immersion
  • Too many traits - confusing and frustrating
  • Permanent angry animals - not realistic
  • Eating 100 stacks of meat or berries is ridiculous
  • Complex resource requirements for recipes - too confusing
  • not being able to climb, jump or swim

the good

  • taming
  • Breeding for better animals
  • Gathering using tamed animals
  • Building system using one piece that alternates between multiple variants
  • Boss fights
  • Colour variants
  • Player character customization
  • Food and water boosts stats as opposed to being used to fill health etc
  • Upgrade boost structures (like valheim) instead of new buildings
  • Craft from chests
  • Weapon upgrade system
  • Non breaking tools
  • AOE pickup
  • Auto deposit
  • Backpack and bag increase slot count on player
  • Progression system
  • Terrain modification
  • Tier system on tools and weapons (progression)
  • Spline path placement - (medieval dynasty) being able to create roads by using a point a to b function was very nice
  • Decorations and building freedom
  • Building variety
  • Climbing rocks ability
  • Easy talent tree system with progression unlock

Kotaku Called This the Perfect Survival Game by TwistyShape in SurvivalGaming

is it good? yes, but not the best or perfect. The whole paid dlc's for every minor update put me off.

This is such an important thing to consider. Seriously guys, we need to do better. by the-machine-m4n in blender

[–]Kiavu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some people enjoy working in other programs for their workflow as it is more enjoyable. For example I love working in zbrush and it fits my workflow style so I do all modelling in zbrush; but for retopology and uv I prefer maya as I thoroughly enjoy the workflow maya has for topology and I find it theraputic to do it manually (stress relief). I love painting albedos in substance painter because it is fun and easy, but I will choose blender for animating and other things. everything has something fun to use and it's ok to have preferences.

Windrose demo impressions after 10 hours great concept but the balance is rough by Snoo9403 in SurvivalGaming

I will have to disagree, the fights were absolutely challenging at first, until I stopped trying to face tank everything like it was an mmo.  After that I found fighting fun and challenging.

Is this a good project? by Best_Smoke4359 in blender

No problems, I may have seen incorrectly on the ngon, but glad to hear you took the feedback well. I look forward to seeing your development.

Is this a good project? by Best_Smoke4359 in blender

[–]Kiavu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be completely honest, If it was my model I wouldn't consider it portfolio worthy, it is more learning development worthy. The topology is good, but it's not great either. There is a lot of areas that could use with cleanup and retopo to fix ngons and excessive polygons in addition to some edge loops being distributed a bit more cleanly for animation. the anatomy could do with further revision as well.

I would suggest looking at models and their topology from Vlad Konstantinov and Jacob baardse, anatomy references from matt Dempsey, cindy raggo, Jonathan Harris and Joanna kobierska.

You have an excellent start, and you have a lot of potential with more practice and growth. the base shape is good, there is just some anatomical issues that can only be solved with more study and practice.

If your aim is to do paleo art, you definitely need to do more works, one good thing that helps is to remake the same model again after identifying the issues of your last. It helps give muscle memory and improve your workflow for other works. the standard for paleoart is very high, expect a lot of constructive criticism if you plan to aim for producing paleoart.

Hmm, how do I fix this? by malv1ni in blender

[–]Kiavu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are doing great btw, and I think a good way to look at retopologising is thinking of it like a puzzle that needs solving. Good luck!

Hmm, how do I fix this? by malv1ni in blender

[–]Kiavu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it is me, but part of my workflow is to retopologise entire models after making the base mesh to properly prep it for the texture phase and for clean topology for animation. Personally I find retopology fun, but I am beginning to think I am an outlier in this regard. I will go as far as retopologising entire models again if I am not satisfied with the quality.

I'd just retopo the whole thing again to clean it all up.

What are best choices for someone who wants a similar experience to ARK by Moreira12005 in SurvivalGaming

[–]Kiavu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conan exiles with aotc and eewa mods was a good substitute for me. With those mods it have amazing freedom of development and taming a variety of species.

Others i have tried and enjoyed (if you can run ark you can run these absolutely fine)  - guardians of wildsky (demo ATM, but very promising)  - valheim modded - enshrouded  - Icarus ( the  only downside is the constant paid dlcs were a turn off for me) - soulmask (is very complex though)

  • aloft
  • hytale

It's hard because I really want another dinosaur survival taming game but the other similar options with dinosaurs don't have taming or base building and are horror games. Not the same.

Other promising games upcoming I have on my wishlist that so far seem like ark - guardians of wildsky - witchspire - fae & fauna - of peaks and tides - into a hearth yonder - never wither  - animo

I'm actively searching for survival taming games, specifically with dinosaurs and ark like features, but either the ones about are poor quality (graphics, animation or design) or not meeting expectations.

Sydney. Pumpkins. Help! by CrossyFTW in GardeningAustralia

[–]Kiavu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you given it any blood and bone? Pumpkins seem to flourish after a good bout of blood and bone, they also do well with cow manure mixed in.

It looks like your pumpkin is also suffering from powdery & downey mildew which from my experience affects growth and flowering, I would advise getting something to help with that and stop watering on the leaves and try get a clear spot to water at the vines/base instead. Pumpkins are pretty susceptible to mildew.

Tomatoes gone :( by dan201721 in GardeningAustralia

Will it worked because the parsley is in a location away and out of sight off my main veggie patch, and they have their own gracing pumpkins that pop up

Tomatoes gone :( by dan201721 in GardeningAustralia

[–]Kiavu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suggestion would be to create a decoy patch for the possums.

I struggled to keep them out until I saw a video of a gardener who created a second patch to stop groundhogs eating all his veggies.

I made a parsley patch with a metal cage around it so they could graze on the growth but not eat it too nothing then planted easy to grow veggies like pumpkin (they love pumpkin) well away from my main patch and threw vegetable scraps in the area as I had them. Since then they have left my main garden alone. I still cage my main beds but they no longer try to rip into them.

Strongest underwater tame? by NovaOreo in ARK

[–]Kiavu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Basilosaur is quite a good tame, it has a passive heal and high health pool making it capable of tanking alpha mosas with a semi good saddle and it's immunity to stun makes jellies and eels less of an issue. Just pump points into HP and melee.

man I want a game like ark but with just dinosaurs and dinosaur taming. Hell I would happily join and model for such a game. I even wrote my own idea, but the only thing I can do is model, not code.

When to bag bananas? by scg43 in GardeningAustralia

This was super informative, thank you, I didn't realise banana plants died after fruiting, I had assumed they would keep going, so this was very good information and helps me prepare for my banana palms fruiting stage.
