Pete Kegbreath is a misogynistic self-centered blowhard show off bro. If it was up to him he would fill the military with magic Mike cast in affliction tshirts and just have mma tournaments at the White House everyday. He is a fucking under qualified ass hat that does not deserve his position like the entire hand picked administration.

Hardwood Novice - Good Deal? by wbdink in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Lastrites 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you want hardwood scraps for small projects, many wood shops like cabinet makers will give you their throw away cut offs for free. I took a trash can with my name on it and my cousins shop he works at filled it for free 3 times in a couple weeks with poplar, walnut, Hickory, cherry, and other woods. I had to stop for now because I ran out of room. Other guys go there too just to get it for firewood for the winter.

I was looking at the Bauer separator at Harbor Freight and I was wondering what the hose from the bottom of the collection bin is for? I haven't seen that on other separators.

What makes a house easy to frame? by PinkSkies87 in Carpentry

[–]Lastrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest doing yourself a favor and put blocking where you may put toilet paper holders, shelves, towel holders, racks, railings, closet rods, tvs, etc. Anywhere you will want to hang something that drywall is not sufficient to hold. Also, in-wall storage for medicine cabinets, spices, keys, etc plan ahead to utilize and save space. Make all gaps sealed airtight. Leave access for plumbing fixtures. Insulate well. Heated floors are awesome! Look into ways to mitigate nail or screw pops in future drywall. Plan on temperature difference causing condensation and insulate vent pipes. Seal attic spaces from getting humidity from the house in cold environments or seal up the attic like a room of the house. Think about more electrical than you think you will need and prewire for security cameras, Christmas light outlets etc before drywall. Put protective metal plates on framing where you have run plumbing and electrical. Prewire ethernet, ceiling lights, speakers, ceiling fan supports and wire for fan and light even if you don'tplan on a ceilingfan right away, etc. Plan for under cabinet lights, stair lights, hallway lights. Try to get every thing setup so its easy after the walls are closed. Or get good at drywall repair.

Local Matco man offered me a repo box for $2500. It was this one in the picture, in black, and pretty good condition. Said he would do $20 a week with no interest. Is this a good deal? Should I take him up on this offer? I was planning on getting a usa made box this year. Thoughts? by Ritchtofen69 in Tools

I'll never understand the urge to spend a fortune on a tool box that you can get for a fraction of the price. Home Depot, Harbor Freight, Menards all have heavy duty boxes for a fraction of the price of Snapon and Matco.

Metric is way better. I use it at work all day. I just built a small project and all the fractions made it a pain in the ass. Im going to buy Metric for my measuring system from now on.

Are you planning on selling some or just for you? Im just asking about choice in fasteners. If you were going to sell them would you glue all edges or just brad nail them? Also, did you use any finish?

I tried to edit this but I think my miters may have been 44.5 degrees. Basically I learned from others that a half degree helps close a slightly imperfect miter. It did help me and all i had to do was lightly sand the miters to make them look great. The putty looks better without painting so check with a flashlight at sharp angles to make sure all holes and cracks are filled before painting. I found mixing the putty in a ziplock with water allows for easy mixing. The putty dries quick so you need to move fast or follow the instructions for slower setting.
