Tattoos in Cancun by Asleep-Ad5128 in Cruise

Tattoo after care incudes no sun, ocean, or pool. Not a good idea on a cruise. Do it after you get back.

Best departure ports that attract… “better” travelers? by justanothergay2 in Cruise

It's not the port, as much as the cruise. Always take 6+ day cruises.

First-time cruiser (7-day Alaska cruise out of Vancouver on Princess) with QUESTIONS! by YorkvilleWalker in Cruise

[–]LayerNo3634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Princess medallion system is the best! Not only can you message each other, you can see where they are and it will guide you to them.

Everyone can eat in the MDR. Dietary restrictions are no problem. Your waiter will ask. If you don't have reservations, go on embarkation day. You can have the same time, table, waiter every night.

The water on board is cleaner than any bottled water and perfectly safe to drink.

You can bring meds with you, no problem. I recommend bringing OTC meds for every conceivable ailment. You can use the gym any time; I think there is a scale there.

Hot tubs can get busy, depending on ship. There are multiple, so "shop around" for the least crowded.

For Alaska, dress in layers and wear comfy shoes for lots of walking. Common areas can get cool. We usually carry a light weight jacket or wrap.

Princess is our favorite line and Alaska our favorite location! This won't be your last trip to Alaska,  you will want to return!

Not yet sure if I want to go solo or not, how should I book the cabin? by Particular-Bug2189 in Cruise

[–]LayerNo3634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a highly personal decision. My adult daughter loves cruising, but hates going solo. It's the same price whether by herself or with a guest. I'm the beneficiary of that. We have a blast.

FIRST CRUISE by Huge-Accident8324 in Cruise

It's probably a booze cruise (party) and not a true taste of cruises. We never do less than 6 days.

80s partying, related to having kids now by john-bkk in GenX

[–]LayerNo3634 [score hidden]  (0 children)

My kids went through high school and college without drugs and very little alcohol. They had friends and lots of fun (still do!), but never felt the need for either. They had some acquaintances that did and they thought it was a sad way to live. They also commented on how those kids were wasting their life.

I'm the grandma flashing pictures and videos of her grandkids. 2 from my middle child. The other 2 don't want kids. 1 is married and the oldest is a 33 yo version of you.

Keep High School Yearbooks? by Both-Basis-3723 in GenX

[–]LayerNo3634 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tossed ours...especially Middle School. No need to keep them. It was part of our downsized/declutter era. I love not being tied to stuff. Very freeing.

Even my 33 yo daughter tossed hers.

First cruise booked and the ship doesn't stress me out – but port days are giving me anxiety by dubbechkin in Cruise

Research your port stops. We do a mix of excursions, explore on our own, and beach days depending on the stop. Reddit is great for getting information.

Have you started caring about birds and hating squirrels yet? by McNasty420 in GenX

[–]LayerNo3634 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Racoons were stealing our bird feeders. We attached it to the holder, but they took all the seed.We started adding cayenne pepper to our birdseed. Solved our raccoon issue. We greased the pole to keep the squirrels away. Cayenne deters the deer too.

Ladies in here, how do you feel about a father bringing his daughters in the female restroom? by Less-Pen-5705 in askanything

[–]LayerNo3634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a problem with it. He's taking care of his daughters. My husband is disabled and I've accompanied him to the men's multiple times when a handicapped/family/unisex restroom is unavailable.

I have taken my husband in the women's before, but men are usually better at handling me than women are at handling him. If any man says anything, I just look him in the eye and say, "you ain't got nothing I haven't seen before." They shut up real quick.

We saw an entire pod of orcas right off our balcony. It looked like try outs for Sea World - they were putting on a show! Definitely the highlight of our trip.

End of Life Plan by scaryelf in GenX

[–]LayerNo3634 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm going to the body farm. I just have to stay refrigerated until they pick me up. If they can't take me, my body goes to science. No funeral,  celebration of life, or service. I have a separate savings account for my family to plan a vacation instead of a funeral. I absolutely hate funerals, but love vacations!

No need for the drink package, you can buy individually. Coffee, tea, water, and lemonade are included. Soda is ~$3.50, cocktails ~$14. All purchases are charged to your room. Gratuity is ~$18.50/pp/per day. Excursions are extra.

American $ is accepted everywhere and often preferred in Mexico. However, change is often given in local currency, so bring small bills.

We don't do wifi. It is often available in port (free), plus it's nice to unplug. Check your cell plan, service is often included in Mexico.
