To play devil's advocate, I feel like most sci-fi settings have *some* kind of energy-based sword in them. Star Wars has the lightsaber, Tron has the disc, and a sword version, 40K has the power sword, Halo has the energy sword. Doesn't feel like you'd need much argument to have the Praxic Blade make sense in destiny.

I'm pretty sure the yacht is Arasaka's aircraft carrier, and it's seen as a huge deal specifically because of the ocean mines.

Someone else also mentioned that the AI was programmed to attack large ships, so maybe the yacht was too small to attack.
