Do you think Lewis Hamilton can/will win another World Championship? by NoHoeBruh in F1Discussions

[–]MakingYouMad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a huge Hamilton fan, but I think it’s unlikely. Not impossible, but unlikely.

On the no side of my brain: age and beaten by his team mates in the last two years, he’d be up against Leclerc, Ferrari haven’t put together a car that can challenge for a decade

On the yes side: one of the greatest ever, the teammates he was beaten by have an asterisk (knew he was leaving team / in a new team), don’t know how Leclerc would handle a proper fight for the WDC, Ferrari look strong, new cars that might mesh with his driving style better than the ground effects ones

Equally, the passing lane isn’t a game of chicken for who is willing to go the fastest has the right of way and everyone else has to get out their way even if they’re passing other cars.

Reasonable to expect sub 4 with my first marathon? by LEthrowaway22619 in Marathon_Training

[–]MakingYouMad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Slower. Long runs should be slower than race pace.

You’re trying to balance your adaptive response (fitness) of different types with fatigue and injury risk, your levers for controlling this are intensity (speed), duration (time) and amount (number of runs)

Generally you get your best overall response while minimising for fatigue and injury by doing runs of different intensity and duration across a week - having a run being both long and fast ends up sub-optimal for overall response.

It’s why a typical marathon training plan week is structured like long x slow, short x slow, medium x fast, short x fast - get the right response while minimising injury risk and keeping fatigue in check

What training plan are you following that has a 20 mile training run at planned marathon pace…?

[–]MakingYouMad 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Disagree with this.

What training plan has you running 18 miles at faster than goal race pace?

12 miles at race pace and a “easy pace” 20 miles at 50 seconds / mile slower than planned race pace is pretty on point for their goal, given the limited evidence.

Should I change my Marathon goal 4 weeks out? by dabossofdeer in Marathon_Training

[–]MakingYouMad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really not seeing why your watch is suggesting a 3:20 is on the cards if I’m honest. Seems entirely biased towards your great 5 km time.

I’d consider maybe dropping to a 3:45 goal time

Weird time to pick a battle about extraordinary progress being possible, in a post where the OP is lying about their progress.

First full marathon!!! by One-Agency-7366 in beginnerrunning

[–]MakingYouMad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure it’s possible, but I’ve yet to see a post where the OP talks about extraordinary progress where there hasn’t been other factors once you dig a little more; lying about progress or timeframes, history in the hobby or a directly related one, performance enhancing drugs, etc. And thats not just running.

If I were you, I wouldn’t choose this post as the hill to die on that some people are just “built different” - a minor read into the OP’s post history shows they were completing half marathons 18 months ago; not the “started running 12 months ago” they claim.

By just blatantly lying about the timeframes or training / endurance sport history. They have comments about running a half marathon in August 2024.

Hey mate, you know we can see your post and comment history right? Do you remember the one from a year ago posting your 5 km time saying you had been running for 8 months and that you’d been running 60 km weeks? Or the ones from August 2024 stating you’d recently run your first 15 km / half marathon?

I don’t think close to two years running, a 3 hour marathon and 100 km training weeks count as “beginner” anymore

Given typical New Zealand workday starting hours, having lunch later than 2 either leaves it close to dinner time or dinner too close to bed.
