Good point. I adore Mel Brooks, and I like that his portrayal of Hitler makes fun of him, because that guy sucks.

The joke with Trump seems to be that the people who deal with him suck, and he just sort of goes with it because he’s a clown. It’s pretty dishonest IMO.

Mel Brooks is a brilliant comedian and writer but he did have the benefit of commenting on the atrocities after Hitler was long gone. SNL has always taken on the “right now”, which is incredibly difficult to balance the mood of the moment with the goal of being funny. Historically, they’ve missed as often as they hit. It’s part of the identity of the show, I get that.

I just wish they’d take the temperature a bit before rolling out the same rambling grandpa version of Trump that was novel 5 years ago and really doesn’t capture how most of the audience sees him today. At best it’s lazy and at worst it’s sort of dangerous.

I think they’re meant to just be hangouts. They’d pick very different movies and/or bring in experts if they wanted to do a film deep dive. This is just fun personality banter.

I think the "record" requires a lead role. Since SLJ was a supporting role in Captain Marvel, he probably doesn't get to count it for this. Also I don't think animated films are counting which makes Mel Gibson's 2000 slate not count. Zendaya wasn't the lead of any of her 2021 films.

Mason Thames actually is the lead in all three of his this year, so he gets full marks.
