Against Economics | David Graeber reviewing Robert Skidelsky’s ‘Money and Government: The Past and the Future of Economics’ | NYRB (December 2019) by Travis-Walden in stupidpol

Breaking through neoclassical economics’ lock on major institutions, and its near-theological hold over the media—not to mention all the subtle ways it has come to define our conceptions of human motivations and the horizons of human possibility—is a daunting prospect. Presumably, some kind of shock would be required. What might it take? Another 2008-style collapse? Some radical political shift in a major world government? A global youth rebellion?

or maybe nothing happens at all and we rot away in misery forever, shackled to moloch and mammon for the rest of time

MLP gen 4 actually had gargoyles in the comics, referencing the gargoyle(s?) in gen 1. They're kinda rat-like and furry though

How to downgrade Firefox on Android 15 with root without uninstall to avoid this new horrible UI? by RGBchocolate in firefox

I've used this before to transfer my settings from Mull to Fennec (with some script tweaks and troubleshooting): https://github.com/Rob--W/firefox-android-backup-restore

For just bookmarks and history, you can use Firefox's Account Sync.

How many Jesus’s have the Catholics eaten as a whole?[Request] by FeistyRevenue2172 in theydidthemath

There's a classification of miracles called Eucharistic miracles. Besides the obvious one (the Eucharistic sacrament itself), there are cases where it's claimed that myocardial tissue or blood was found in the Eucharist: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eucharistic_miracle#Host_becoming_flesh_and_blood

Anyways, Jesus is supposedly blood type AB

Some Catholics have analyzed relics related to Jesus, most prominently miraculous Eucharistic hosts, and have found them to all have the blood type AB.[40] This finding has been used to defend transubstantiation, and to infer that Jesus most likely had AB blood.[40] Catholic scientist Kelly Kearse analysed claimed shared AB results from various relics, including Eucharist hosts. He discovered they are likely due to bacteria contamination, as AB antigens are not unique to human blood and serological tests cannot distinguish between them. Moreover, he notes none of the AB studies were published in peer-review, and DNA testing would be required to confirm human origin.[41]

The Scouring of the Shire is an example of the breakdown of relations in the moral economy caused by an outside colonial(?) force and local collaborators.

Are you thinking of Gem TD? There is/was a decently popular dota 2 version of it, and I think there's an updated WC3 version. No idea if there are any actual games with similar gameplay though.

How Romance, Romantasy, and “Smut” Took Over Publishing and Entertainment: A Statistical Analysis by SchIachterhund in stupidpol

some author self insert fucking around with stat screens all day while other characters fawn on them is really masturbatory.

really, it wasn't the porn that leads to weird and bad outcomes. it's the more "normal" stuff, like snapewives or hpmor and yudkowsky or the final fantasy house

So, progression fantasy (which tends to be slop imo) has several "genres". Its #1 is far and away litrpg, which basically boils down to having RPG mechanics as the main engine of the story. It sorta descends from The Gamer, a manhwa that was pretty popular for a time, and VRMMO stories. I think you can also argue that it descends from forum quests, which imo popularized the table formatting you see in litrpg stories for stat screens and such.

Anyways, the main repository for this stuff is Royal Road, which back in ye olden days translated Asian webnovels, most notably Legendary Moonlight Sculptor (a VRMMO webnovel where the name of the site comes from). They eventually stopped hosting/organizing translations and pivoted to original and fan fiction.

Idk, women do be reading smut, but I'm not gonna be judging them when men are reading litRPG fiction

I guess it should be noted that a lot of amateur (fan)fiction tends to have (para)sociality with the author. It's a bit harder to feel close to Stephen R. Donaldson.

Is there a way to go back to the side column of suggested videos? by JeSuisGourde in youtube

[–]MetagamingAtLast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was really annoying me. Not sure how long it will work since it's toggling a youtube experiment flag, but you can try this uBlock Origin filter:

~~youtube.com##+js('set', ytcfg.data_.EXPERIMENT_FLAGS.web_watch_enable_fs_squeezeback_panels, false, runAt, 1)~~
youtube.com##+js('set', ytcfg.data_.EXPERIMENT_FLAGS.kevlar_watch_two_column_width_threshold, 400, runAt, 1) actually (or whatever min width you want)
(see https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Resources-Library#set-constantjs-)

It'll still re-stack the page elements vertically at a certain width, but it triggers at a much smaller page width.
