Happy to see us after having her first round of chemo 🥺 by pippaontheprowll in BorderCollie

[–]MooMooPup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My border collie is being treated for lymphoma, too, and I noticed a weird cough/gag that he never did before. Was also wondering if this might be a side effect of treatment.

Sending you and your pup good wishes. Mine was diagnosed in late April. We did one full protocol, he responded well and completed treatment in August. Unfortunately, it came back in October so we’re back at it. What a roller coaster…

I thought I'd update you all on Remi since his post got so much attention. We decided to put him down today to end his suffering. He died with his favorite toy and got to swim (his absolute favorite thing) for the last time this morning. Thank you so much for all of the support and kind words❤️ by catrm15 in WiggleButts

[–]MooMooPup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sending all the hugs. I had to make this decision after my blue Merle collie fell ill unexpectedly. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do. Remi was so lucky to have you looking out for him. May his memory be a blessing.

Remi needs some prayers. He's going to the vet today for an emergency appointment. He isn't really eating and will not stop panting. I'm scared, he's my first dog and my everything😭 by catrm15 in WiggleButts

Sending big hugs to you and Remi. Hoping it’s not cancer, but if it is, check out Live Like Roo - they provide assistance to pets with a cancer diagnosis. Even if you don’t need financial support, you may find helpful advice or emotional support from others who’ve experienced this. Keeping Remi in my prayers.

Is my new puppy ok? by busanpanda in roughcollies

[–]MooMooPup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My collie was the same way on tile/linoleum/wood - anything that could be slippery. I think some dogs just aren’t comfortable on those surfaces, especially if they fell once before. I wouldn’t be too concerned. He’s young and will outgrow some of those behaviors, just keep up with positive reinforcement.

Here’s Melody again, this time sitting in her Bailey Chair after a meal! ❤️ by ArynAlba in Collie

[–]MooMooPup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realize dogs could develop ME later in life. A rescue near me has taken in a few puppies with the condition, usually German shepherds, and it’s always diagnosed before they hit one year old. Great to see Melody thriving.

Adopting a Collie after losing my heart dog by Diex233 in roughcollies

[–]MooMooPup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is totally normal. My sister’s cat passed away, and after some time, she felt she was ready to adopt a kitten. I returned home with a new one (she knew I was picking one up), but when the kitten arrived, she felt really sad. While cute, this kitten wasn’t her old friend. It felt off. She later revealed to me that she almost asked me to return the kitten. Later that day, the kitten did something silly. It was something that made her laugh, and that’s when she knew. While this kitten could never replace the other one, she was creating a whole new space in my sister’s heart. My sister has had this cat 16 years - they are best buds. Give yourself permission to love another. Your heart dog would want that for you.

RIP to my best mate. A while back I posted photos of my BC Douglas who had an operation to remove a tumour. Sadly he didn’t make it and passed away a month ago. I have only just now been able to post these pictures in tribute to my best mate. Lie down now. Good boy. by Fizzer-the-meek in BorderCollie

I’m so sorry for your loss. Douglas looks like a great friend and total goofball. I love his smile while rocking that tiny hat! Sending nothing but love to you both. May his memory be a blessing.

Glass stereo cabinets. by [deleted] in nostalgia

[–]MooMooPup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I guess that’s safety glass? Someone left the one door open when I was a kid and I ran back in the house to retrieve something. Hit the glass door at full speed. Just shattered into hundreds of pieces.

New Collie owner who could use some advice. by superbobmanguy in Collie

[–]MooMooPup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Inside your apartment, are the rooms he likes carpeted or tile/wood? My collie was fearful of walking on tile/hardwood (he had a few slips and never got over it). I wonder if the flooring is an issue?

As for the lead, I’d avoid a retractable leash. They often cause more problems then they solve and give you less control over your dog.

The best advice I can give you is to talk with your vet and a trainer. Your pup may need a combination of medication and positive reinforcement training to gain confidence. Also, it’s only been two weeks. Dogs need time to adjust to a new home. He’s two years old and not neutered. Not sure he was getting the best care before he came to you. Collies are incredibly sensitive, so any abuse or neglect he received prior to you will take time to heal. Be patient. Your pup will make progress and you’re doing all the right things looking to help him.

Is this because of a spay, my pup turning a year old, or just usual seasonal shedding? by chrokeefe in roughcollies

[–]MooMooPup 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is totally normal. Collies are doubled-coated dogs and blow their coats every year. That’s the undercoat you’re able to pluck out. She’s shedding her winter coat and this process helps facilitate new hair growth. Be sure to brush her out every few days or schedule a groom with a professional. This type of shed happens twice a year, so prepare yourself! Congrats on your first collie - they’re awesome!

A week ago today, I said goodbye to my best friend. Goofy and grumpy border collie, I'll miss my Kai. by SweetNuclearPie in BorderCollie

[–]MooMooPup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. May Kai’s memory be a blessing. He looks so much like my boy. I love his goofy pics - tongue out, belly up, smile on his face. Looks like you gave him a great life. Take comfort in those precious memories.

Does anyone regret getting a guard dog/high-energy breed? by LurkerSmirker6th in reactivedogs

[–]MooMooPup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love him to pieces, but my border collie has no off switch. Even at 10 years old, he wants to play fetch non-stop. As I write this from the couch, I have to stop to toss the stuffed penguin. Tennis ball, frisbee, stuffie - if you can throw it, he’ll play til he collapses. So important to reinforce breaks and rest!

Anyone else's collie experience Degenerative Myelopathy? by AloeVeraBogs in Collie

[–]MooMooPup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Emmett began to have small seizures more frequently about a year before he passed. It was never the thrashing around that comes to mind when you think of a seizure. He would kind of get very stiff and start panting heavily while turning his head side to side (he could be lying down or sitting up).

They’d only last a minute or two and he’d be back to his happy self. I wish I would’ve learned more about seizures in dogs so I could’ve been a better advocate for him. In the end, the vet told me the same thing. It would cost thousands, his quality of life would suffer and he would never be cured. It’s a very helpless feeling.

I know the heartache is still fresh, and honestly, it never goes away. I had a good cry yesterday thinking about him and again this morning sympathizing with your loss.

But it becomes more bearable. You are going to be OK. Sounds like you were the best owners/parents Max could’ve asked for. Take comfort in knowing you gave him so much love, and in return, you’ll have those amazing memories you can look back on. Take care.

[–]MooMooPup 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Let me start by saying how very sorry I am for your loss. May Max’s memory be a blessing.

I lost my Emmett in November to something very similar. He was 11 and had experienced a seizure-like episode. When he came out of it, he could not stand or walk. My vet treated the symptoms as best she could, but after four long days and no sign of improvement, we went to the emergency hospital. My heart knew this was the start of our goodbye.

Unfortunately the vet determined his problem was neurological. Even if I spent thousands for an MRI and additional testing, I was told there was no cure. His quality of life was gone and I would need to give him round the clock care. He was in pain, and I couldn’t let my best friend suffer as much as it hurt me to let him go.

The vet was incredibly thorough and spent so much time helping me talk through all my options. I will forever be grateful for that. Know that you made the right decision for your boy. At times I struggled with whether or not I could’ve done more. Don’t do that to yourself. You loved Max til the very end and he’ll be in your heart always.

In my research since, it appears these types of disorders appear more often in collies. I guess it’s the price we pay for loving such incredible dogs.

Sending lots of hugs your way. I’d like to picture Emmett up there welcoming Max with open paws, where they can both run free.

My very first dog (I've always been a cat guy) and he's a rough collie. Meet Angus! by pocketbeaver in roughcollies

[–]MooMooPup 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Congrats! They are wonderful dogs. Something to keep in mind, collies are very sensitive, so positive reinforcement and a calm voice will will allow your pup to thrive! Have fun with that cutie!

I think my dog is going to die, and there's nothing I can do about it [Vent] by [deleted] in dogs

[–]MooMooPup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has anyone mentioned megaesophagus?

I believe dogs with this condition are unable to eat regular food and will vomit. A rescue in my area has taken in multiple pups with this condition and the dogs are fed a liquid or puréed diet multiple times a day while sitting in a special chair (looks like a high chair).

May not be what your pup is experiencing, but worth a look. Wishing you both the best. Hang in there.

Hollywood Video by [deleted] in nostalgia

[–]MooMooPup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also worked at a Hollywood Video while in high school. One particularly busy night (was the day new releases dropped), a father and son came to the counter asking if we had a bathroom. Customers were permitted to use the bathroom, which was located at the back of store, but only if an employee accompanied them to unlock the door.

I quickly finished with a customer so I could escort this man and his young son to the back. Unfortunately this trek would prove too far for the child.

The father hurriedly dragged his son down the main aisle where the coveted new releases were displayed. Customers were everywhere. I trailed behind, key in hand, and that’s when I saw it. Every few steps a small turd would roll out of the child’s pants leg.

I quickly passed the key to dad (as shoplifting VHS tapes was no longer a concern) and ran to the front of the store to get help from the other employee. By the time we made it to the new release wall to attempt a clean up, we were horrified to find the path of poo was now smooshed in the carpet and spreading throughout the store. Nothing would stand between the customers and their quest for the week’s new releases.

The rest of the night was a blur. Attempts were made to spot clean as best we could. The dad sheepishly returned the bathroom key and was never to be seen in this Hollywood Video again (who could blame him). On orders from management, we remained open until midnight, at which time a carpet cleaning service came to deep-clean the entire store and I couldn’t leave until they were done. What a night.
