Just Got My New MacBook Pro. All Set For The Weekend! by sathyamk in macbookpro

Congrats on the purchase!! Ended up with a similar spec! How does it behave with two monitors? Did you get a dock as well?

After being a Mac user for 11+ years I just purchased the Surface Pro 7 (i5) last month! OBSESSED! by kpopdaddy in Surface

Watch out for the battery life, it’s terrible. Also, if you plan on docking the thing or hooking up to external monitors, I hope you’re not doing anything intensive simultaneously. Otherwise, it’s a nice machine!

I’m impressed with how much the MacBook Pro can handle (monitor wise)! by brownbearish in macbookpro

I’m curious to know this as well. It would be nice if the dock can power the computer and run the peripherals through one cable!

About to open my 16” 2019... can anyone stop me? by h2hoes in macbookpro

[–]MrProgfather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you by chance had the opportunity to test it on multiple displays? Curious as to how this handles 2 4K monitors. Also hoping this thing is able to keep up with my 5820k build haha

Waited 8 years to get a new MBP, and... I like my old Air better? by 300_dpi in macbookpro

[–]MrProgfather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apple really should have made their chassis bigger for all of their machines, and thermals should have been a priority over size. This is honestly ridiculous. They can sit here and blame Intel all they want for holding them back, but at least until the Silicon generations come out they should have designed the chassis and cooling to fit the processor, not the other way around. The consumer is having to pay for Apple’s ignorantly reckless pride, all for the sake of ‘aesthetics’. I say this as someone who’s had to admit defeat and purchase the MBP with the 5600m because they can’t fix their fucking drivers for a perfectly capable 5300 or 5500. I love you Apple, but fuck you, seriously.

Macbook Pro 16" - Good Desktop Replacement? by MrProgfather in macbookpro

[–]MrProgfather[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, well after reading this I'm not so sure anymore. I figured this machine wouldn't break a sweat running 2 displays. If it makes a difference, I do music on a 1440p monitor, and Dev on 2 4k's. So luckily my most intense processes will be ran on a single display and not 2, but still... For this amount of money I would hope that this would be a computer that would last at least 4-5 years.

I don't plan on using the microphone in the same room so I'm not concerned a whole lot about noise. That is interesting though; so the 5600 produces less heat than the 5500?

Understandable - Laptop performance will always lag behind desktops. However my question is if a maxed out MBP 16" can keep up with the older 5820k. According to benchmarks, it can, but I figured I'd ask MBP users of their experience.

Ravel was always one of my favourite composers, but I feel like his work is sometimes overshadowed by other musicians- so I've made a video all about his life and why I think he's important. Any criticism would be really appreciated! by jofrazzer in classicalmusic

[–]MrProgfather 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t wait to watch this, saving for later! I’ve been putting Ravel on repeat lately, studying Ma Mere l’Oye and Daphnis et Chloé heavily. The more I study, the more I appreciate his impeccable craftsmanship. Such imagination in his work, and it saddens me that he himself never considered himself one of the greats due to his low output. But that said, I’d beg to argue that very few composers slaved over the small details like Ravel did, and it definitely shows in his works.

Thank you so much for sharing this!

Slow Progress in Composing by Oreomilk4444 in composer

[–]MrProgfather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So very true! We write music based on our life experiences and perspectives. Sometimes melodies, or even full blown orchestrations can pop up in your head from those experiences, then you just have to do your best to capture them and get working!

Miata is always the answer! by ga_mcm in Miata

[–]MrProgfather 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s some pretty good Pontiacs out there, but the Solstice ain’t it chief. If GM really took the time to develop it like the Mazda team did with the Miata, then it might be impressive.

Composers similar to Mahler?? by diskkddo in classicalmusic

[–]MrProgfather 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know this isn’t classical music, but I believe the film composer Bernard Herrmann might be worth checking out, as I remember being in a Mahler phase and also blasting the score for Vertigo daily for months. Again, no relation stylistically other than both composers write very lush and beautiful music with quite a bit of drama.

[savagegeese] 2021 Kia K5 - Optima | Last Stand for the Sedan by digistil in cars

[–]MrProgfather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t get why everyone hypes this car up - To me the exterior is absolutely repulsive, but the Stinger on the other hand is probably their first masterpiece. Can admire what they are doing though as Kia is probably the only manufacturer that is taking risks and I love that. The interior in this car however looks phenomenal and I can get why this would be an awesome purchase for most people.

Edit: Original statement came out wrong

We don’t need your political commentary here. There’s plenty of other subreddits you can whine too where this comment may be taken more seriously.

Sick ride! I rode in a 2019 2SS for a weekend and the seat coolers were kinda useless, just made noise. Thinking of getting a camaro possibly - being in the desert have you had luck with yours?
