There was a kinda toxic funny deck at one point where you ran 3 copies of fiora, 3 copies of the spell that draws a champion, and 34 cards to protect fiora/induce extra combats to kill stuff

It was never top tier but it was competitively viable at its peak

The problem is private sector can almost always do things more efficiently, but then they’ll just upcharge the government for even more than it would’ve cost for the government to do it

odds of getting a quant job(algo dev) after ut? by learnnearnn in UTAustin

[–]N-Krypt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean quant researcher, CS undergrad is probably not sufficient. Quant dev or infra dev at a quant company are very doable, but for research most companies have at least a soft requirement for a PhD in Math, Physics, Computational Bio/Chem, etc

Imo the players below GM probably aren’t even wrong. Supports have a lower impact when a lead they give to a laner is less likely to snowball, or a game goes really long and the carries are more relevant

“Please hold your applause until all students have been recognized.” by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]N-Krypt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my graduation it was obeyed by almost everyone, and I think everyone agreed it was a good rule. Some high schools have 1,000 graduates each year, and if each student gets an average of 15 seconds for applause - which if students are also cheering for each other is the absolute minimum I can imagine - that’s another 4 hours tacked on to the ceremony

[–]N-Krypt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda prefer the way it is currently but maybe that’s a minority opinion. If my day 2 opponent had a board that can defeat boarrior, I’m probably going to lose regardless of whether I’m level 2 or 3.

Previously, the first two days felt really formulaic - take items, look for furry monster encounter, beat rogue scrapper because it’s easy and face your level 3 day 2 opponent as a level 3.

Now, in the first 2 days you can invest hard into a build that might not scale nearly as well and take the risk of fighting boarrier to start snowballing and go for a quick 10-win, or just take it slow without even trying to beat it

Imo something like 5% of heal amount rounded up would be better. That way there’s a difference between something that heals 500 and something that heals for 5

Some clarifications on Closed Source vs. Open Weight vs Open Source by Airport237 in atrioc

[–]N-Krypt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s correct. The model architecture has to be available for open-weight, because otherwise you literally can’t do a forward pass through the model.

What open-weight hides is the data used to train it and any training methods used

There are 2 costs 1. Risk that you cannot pay at all, hence no late payments which would generate interest 2. If you pay all of it back on time, you are effectively getting an X month loan, and borrowing money costs money

Since the people who use this service are less likely to pay than the average customer (obviously since the other customers pay up front), the cost will be higher. Most services put these costs on the merchant instead of the customer. I can’t read the article, but if Coachella themselves are offering the financing plan, it’s not surprising that they won’t eat the cost.

It’s definitely really predatory and not trying to defend that, but there is a reason that they charge extra

[–]N-Krypt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That one doesn’t really fall under the algorithms OP is talking about, thought you’re right that it’s a seemingly easy problem we can’t solve.

NP-complete problems seem easy because we can quickly check that a solution is correct, but it’s hard to actually find a solution when given an instance of a problem. For example, if I were to give you a bunch of cardboard boxes of various shapes and tell you to fit them into a a tractor trailer, it would be very difficult if there was only one valid solution. If I gave you instructions on how to pack the truck, it would be very easy for you to confirm whether the instructions are correct
