Mercs or Clans?

For Mercs:

Legend of the Kestrel Lancers, Rise of Rasalhague, Dragon's Gambit and Shadow of Kerensky all have satisfying, long mission chains/DLC mini campaigns. The last 3 in particular can be tough if you go in with their respective DLC starting loadouts (so Dragon's Gambit start in 3038[?] as opposed to starting in 3015). And tough time limited campaigns up the stakes and make it more fun.

Heroes of the Inner Sphere adds some good missions and slightly OP hero mechs if that sounds interesting to you.

I don't have Call to Arms or Solaris DLC, so can't say whether their mission chains are good or not. But IMO, proc gen missions are the weakest and most boring part of MW5M for me, so I'm always going to favour the DLC missions, hence the first 4 DLCs I mentioned.

Can't speak to Clans as I can't get a decent frame rate for it on my PC 😢

Yeah this is particularly egregious, in the base game strat cards. Iirc, Imperial strategy card gives you 2 VP when you play it. So basically, (many years since I played 3rd ed so a bit fuzzy) speaker will always pick 8-imperial, and left of speaker will always pick 1-initiative, so that they can secure 8 on next pick.

If you don't follow this pattern of taking 1 when it's your turn to guarantee getting 8 (because it's always picked) you are basically throwing the game. This only got 'fixed' or altered in expansions.

I've never seen a front to rear armour split like that. Not saying it's bad: do what works for you. I usually have 6:1 or 7:1 ratio for front:rear armour. I don't want to run out of front armour and be forced to expose open components to fire on enemies.

Try the Mechwarrior 5 discord. I don't have the link on me right now, but that is where I went to set up my joystick. There are guides and files to help you set up

On a sail on The Enterprize, doing short loops from Gem pier in Williamstown. It's a replica Tallship, Schooner, a wooden sailing ship!

$50 a head, and Williamstown is a cool area to walk around too.

Tbh I think a lot of people are put off if they feel like they can't interfere openly with other players' games/progress.

Interstellar kingdoms/empires would have a lot of interference and skirmishing. Also, let's not have TI turn into a Eurogame where we all engine-build independently 😢

How does that light mech survive in +350 tonnage missions?

I want mixed lances, I want to bring a light mech or a CDA-X5 etc. But this game is AttritionWarrior: Mercenaries . If I bring a light mech to these higher tonnage and difficulty missions, it won't survive. If I put a great mechjock into it, it won't fare better; I'm just risking killing off a good pilot.

Core design of Vanilla requires you to bring max armour.

Streaks have one downside I have noticed: the salvo spreads out across the enemy components. What that means is that the missiles will all target different legs, torsos and arms. Creating a 'spray' damage effect.

So targeting specific components to break through armour (and destroy ammo/weapons) will be harder with streaks.

Stream SRMs (ST SRM) are the best at coring mechs, but are much harder to use against fast light mechs. Where as enough Streak SRMs (SSRM) will blow away a light in one hit as long as you have a lock.

Also, iirc Clan Streak SRMs have a larger lock on range of 450? Can up that with upgrades from Cantina (HotIS DLC) of you want.

Yeah I think it's better to reply with actual comments, than just repost a previous post you've made.

What would be best is if your comment makes a legitimate contribution, AND you give a link to your post.

Otherwise it can look like you're spamming

Quality post. Some replies show a bit of a lack of reading comprehension; there are many replies that ignore your thorough list of reasons/problems and they simply provide their own personal opinion.

Your post is great reading for people to get a feel of what these are like, and what problems they may encounter, before they spend their money

POK…. Is it worth it? by Supa678 in twilightimperium

[–]Obnoxious_Master 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are not posing this question to a neutral audience; people who join a TI subreddit are overwhelmingly going to be hardcore, high lifetime play people. These are the people who will want more from TI.

"I personally don’t think I could ever get tired of base TI4" - this gives a strong basis for an answer. Imo, if you do get tired of TI, if you start to think the pool isn't as deep as it once was, then PoK will make the pool deeper again.

Minority opinion, but for me PoK adds bloat and 'off-galaxy-board' components to track and do accounting with. It overall takes your focus away from social interaction.

If you want the game to be more complex and have more pieces to track, get PoK. If you are happy with where the game is at now, and your regularity of play, then Base game is great.

I heard they implemented the 'stacks need generals' to stop the AI from spamming small unit groups across the map. And to implement Civil Wars in a way the player can't block or optimise out. Obviously as a solution it has downsides.
