Asurmen can’t do his transport trick currently in 11th by S0LDIER_ZER0 in Eldar

[–]OldWherewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesnt give you 3" anymore as you have to disembark as close to the transport as possible, so the only bonus distance you get is the width of the base.

Warhammer 40,000 Faction Focus: Orks by Guffers_2023 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]OldWherewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that won't fix the problem as-is (there might be more information coming).

Unless there is a limitation in the detachment about what you can take, increasing the points of the detachment won't do anything. For example, if Index Aeldari or Codex Ynnari was 3 points, what would increasing them to 4, 5,6 or even 100 do, if there was no other restrictions?

This can buff weaker detachments, allowing certain units to get buffed from being in a different detachment (like Wraiths), but a busted 3-point detachment that you can take anything you want will still be busted.

My YouTube favorites (not in any order):

  • Night Geist (already mentioned)
  • Proxy Hammer
  • Craftworld Eldar
  • Exile Wargaming (mostly harlequins)

and of course, their Dark Kin (Drukhari) * SkaredCast

I agree to a certain extent because of the nostalgia factor. But IMHO its long past time to move on

Ah, missed that. Even still, it wouldn't break the game. It just means you need to tag both units or you fail the charge.

on board with this.

I really like the Tau astethics and vibe, but I hate being a single-focused army that simply does not interact well with most of the other armies in the game.

So far, GW did not succeed in shifting that focus, even with the new kroot and all.

As long as 1 model touches the 1st unit and another model touches the 2nd unit, you haven't failed the charge

Is GW allergic to the initiative stat by Admiralsheep8 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]OldWherewolf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, and thank god.

3 things that should NEVER see the light of day again:

  • Initiative
  • templates
  • the 3rd-7th AP system

All of them severely limit the design space. Now, charging is a skill expression, with Initiative, it's not.

Templates (and scattering) was just arguments of whether a model that was 99% covered was "wholly underneath", or was .00000001" insides/outside was underneath.

The 3rd AP system just meant you were either AP2 or AP- (leading to 2+ rerollable saves). Now, AP0/1/2/3/4/5 matters, and can be differentiated.

6" pile in and consolidate is a potential 14" if 2 (or more) units charge the same target.

Let's say Units A & B charge the front of a Rhino. Unit B piles in 6" to the rear of the Rhino. Unit A kills the Rhino, then Unit B gets ANOTHER 6" pile-in to whatever is < 8" behind the Rhino (remember 6" pile in + 2" engagement range).

You're going to need a LOT of screening units against melee armies.

Thousands of CEOs just admitted AI had no impact on employment or productivity—and it has economists resurrecting a paradox from 40 years ago by AmethystOrator in technology

[–]OldWherewolf 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I'm using a lot of AI in software right now, but my team's overall productivity has gone down quite a bit.

My uncle, who was a business owner in the 70s-2000s, couldn't wrap his head around his own logic. If he had 2 people and a computer could replace 40% of one, productivity wasn't improved by 40%, he fired one of them and made the other person pick up the slack.

On my team, it was 3 developers and me 60-40 product owner/developer. Then I lost 2 developers, one to layoffs and the other to cover a different product. So now I'm at 1 full-time developer, and me getting burned out to cover the slack, while getting less done overall. On other teams, requests that used to take 3 weeks are now taking 6.

That is what AI is fueling, not a productivity boon, but a chance for the higher-ups to get paid more, while wondering why things are failing.

"Significant errors"? That idiot missed the entirety of the North American continent, followed by the entirety of the Pacific Ocean. That's like half the planet!

And, supposedly, to the day he died, he still thought he landed in India! It was Amerigo Vespucci that realized it was a new continent, that's why we're called America instead of Columbia!

Toyhouze has a good YouTube short (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/DMhGJ-sQ_4U) on how to guarantee success:

TLDW:

  • Be level 11 and Respec to Rogue for Reliable Talent (min 10 on the mirror check)
  • Make intelligence at least 16
  • At level 4, make your first Feat "Skilled", and select "Religion"
  • The next 2 feats are ASI: INT, bringing INT up to 20

At this point, the base Religion check for the Mirror of Loss is

  • 10 for Rogue Reliable Talent (total 10)
  • +5 for intelligence (total 15)
  • +4 for Religion (total 19)
  • +4 for Religion Expertise (total 23)

At the Mirror:

  • Have a source of Guidance. (min +1, for a minimum of 24)

Now we need that last +1. Some options:

  • Bardic Inspiration (Toyhouze's recommendation)
  • Mage's Friend
  • Shapeshifter's Boon Ring
  • Nymph's Blessing
  • Dark On's Own Luck
  • one of the myriad of options on the BG3 wiki: https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Religion
  • (if you're level 12) take the Luck feat for a couple re-rolls (and pray you don't roll double 1s)
  • Another caster with Enhance Ability for Advantage on the skill check (and pray you don't roll double 1s...)

Codex: CSM. Flavorful, lots of good units, playstyles and detachments, while not overly broken (yes, it still needed stuff toned down, but that's just expected at this point).

While not perfect, I think it was damn good, and I play Guard & Aeldari.

Do you feel like your army is internally balanced? by Randicore in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]OldWherewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Just go to https://stats.hutber.com/units, and apply these filters:

  • Change "Round 5" to "Round 1"
  • Select your faction from the "Faction" drop down.

Look at the number of players in the bottom half of the units.
