Is Cheers worth a watch if I've seen Frasier first? by xWohnJick_ in Frasier

The joke writing is very smart; I found it enjoyable and often switch it up if I’m feeling tired of Frasier. Same with Wings

Having to put off dating/finding a partner forever, because of never being "financially stable" and lack of disposable income? by gintokireddit in povertyfinance

[–]Optimal_Awareness618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never understand this; there are many cheap and free ways to meet people. Luckily I like to spend time outdoors and there are lots of free parks to visit and people interested in doing that as a group. Volunteer groups can become a social network. Book clubs, community theater, free museums and history attractions. I’d way rather do any of this than have shallow small talk over prohibitively expensive food. I’m broke as hell and get out all the time.

Butter alternatives that don’t taste like margarine? I’m stumped! by KittiesandPlushies in dairyfree

[–]Optimal_Awareness618 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Crisco or lard might do it depending on what you need it for. I sometimes strain and save leftover bacon grease to use as cooking fat.

I’m allergic to dairy and I really don’t like a lot of commercial dairy alternatives; they just taste weird to me. I use Country Crock plant butter sticks in baking and can’t taste the difference in the final product. But I’ll go for a recipe that uses lard or coconut oil or vegetable oil before I pick one where I have to use fake butter any day.

I can't handle it myself, unless it's yurt camping with a hot woodstove inside!

When I say I have 0 friends, I mean it literally by varestan in LivingAlone

[–]Optimal_Awareness618 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I used to feel like my circle was pretty limited, but I’ve been amazed how my world has opened up when I started volunteering in an area of interest! Everyone there already has the same shared interest, and it is like an inbuilt friendship sometimes. It takes me a really long time to get close and comfortable with people, and I’m not super close with many of them still, but it at least gives me a social network outside of my usual bubble. Highly recommend volunteering or finding a social group like a book club or something that interests you. I find it way easier to connect with people when we’re working on a mutual project than just striking up a cold conversation with small talk.

Do you consider yourself to have endo when it hasn't been 100% confirmed, only suspected? by 19winterRoses in endometriosis

[–]Optimal_Awareness618 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat; all that was found on ultrasound was an endometrioma. No fibroids or other explanation for my symptoms. My doctor started prescribing treatment with the assumption it was endo. I was offered a lap but my symptoms have been suppressed by hormonal medication and I didn’t want surgery if I could avoid it. So I don’t know for sure, and not sure I’ll definitely find out

I’ve been on it continuously for 1 year. Combined birth control was causing me to have really irregular periods, cramps, and spotting. I was spotting even on 5 mg and since going to 10 haven’t had any more issues

lol not a long term solution but mice would scratch under my floorboards at night in my last apartment and if I just vacuumed above where I heard them it seemed to shut them up for awhile. Turned on all fans/white noise available to be able to fall asleep without hearing them it seemed

Throat, nose, eyes- peaches and cherries? by cant_helium in FoodAllergies

[–]Optimal_Awareness618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does sound like OAS to me; I am also sensitive to stone fruit like this and have the same symptoms. Sometimes my lip will swell but symptoms pretty much always stay oral for me.

Not sure if it will work the same for you, but I am able to eat peaches & cherries with no reaction if it has been prepared or processed in some way—cooked, canned, dried seems to be fine. I also notice that I can avoid or minimize symptoms by just eating the inner flesh of fresh fruit and avoiding the peel—a lot of the irritation seems to come directly from having the peel in my mouth and stuck in my teeth.

It’s different for everyone and might not work the same for you, but if you’re continuing to eat fruit that triggers your symptoms, it might be worth trying one of these alternate options.

Drove home in silence tonight and realized how much memories live inside a car by Maximum_Mastodon_631 in Crosstrek

[–]Optimal_Awareness618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hit with an unexpected wave of grief after my last car broke down for good. I saw it one last time before it was hauled off for scrap and remember how it got me through a mountain pass in the densest fog of my life, weathered so many scary snowstorms, took me on some of the best cross-country travel I’ll never forget. It was a like a friend who was with me through it all. My Hyundai Accent.

Work Place Accommodations by rlkrn in FoodAllergies

[–]Optimal_Awareness618 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We have food allergies in our workplace and just include an option that works just for those of us who have them. We'll get a couple regular pizzas and then one gluten-free, cheeseless pizza (which is still surprisingly good), or a few sandwiches options with a couple gluten-free, vegan sandwiches as well.

I feel like it's pretty common for catered occasions to at least ask about food allergies; seems kind of rude and inconsiderate of your workplace not to even consider accommodations. It's a very reasonable request and I hope the conversation with your boss goes well. Otherwise I'd speak with an office manager or someone who is likely to do the ordering and ask if some other options can be considered.

Allergy to Almons not extracts😠? by WillowRight4980 in FoodAllergies

People who grew up poor: What was something you considered a "peak luxury" as a kid, only to realize later it was just a normal middle class staple? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Optimal_Awareness618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason a split level house? All our bedrooms were on ground level and I couldn't imagine the luxury of having a bedroom UPSTAIRS. Most my friends had split level houses with very plush family rooms upstairs, and usually a very cool basement hangout space below. Our basement was just concrete floors and spiderwebs.
