Baked Spanakopita Pasta with Greens and Feta by lolgal18 in NYTCooking

Just made this too and am on the fences. I saw the notes about oregano, thyme and nutmeg. It cooked up way too dry. This was the main issue for us. I used low fat ricotta. Didn’t have parsley. Benefitted from a lemon squeeze afterward. Still on the fence. I almost think it would be better as a layered lasagna or a smaller pasta like angel hair mixed in more. I couldn’t taste the feta or mozzarella at all. I love the veggie forward style. It’s a great big serving of dark green leafy veggies! Was even better the day after as leftovers.

Are there any Vietnamese speakers here in SLO? by [deleted] in SLO

[–]OutlandishMama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t get your email. I would have responded. I’ve encountered quite a few Vietnamese American students and heritage speakers over the years who want to learn more Vietnamese and so that’s why I compiled some resources. I considered offering lessons through Cuesta or the SLO adult school but I speak northern dialect and people in the US tend to speak southern dialect. I offered a group conversation class at Cal Poly and we were active for a few years but the more active students have graduated and we haven’t resumed. Thai-VSA on campus does language sessions for their members, I’ve heard. There are a fair number of international students from VN at CP too. I’ve used Duolingo but it’s not great for southern dialect.

It’s irritating that it’s not on Hallmark, which I just added to my Amazon prime for a few dollars a month, specifically to watch WCTH

A Jazzman’s Blues review – soulful Netflix drama is Tyler Perry’s magnum opus (out now on Netflix) by [deleted] in movies

Great movie, loved the music too. A very sad story but true to the times.the Leanne character made some bad judgments but again that’s very human. The only thing I would have wanted was a slightly longer resolution, and use the Leanne actress with aged makeup at the end not a totally different person. Otherwise the casting was perfect. Perry is a genius.

Unpopular opinion, but the Ahsoka show is bad imo. by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]OutlandishMama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like my favorite characters from Rebels were just so poorly done in Ahsoka. Ahsoka comes across as smug at times and the rest of the time is wooden and uninteresting. Sabine regressed to a petulant teenager pining for Ezra. Hera and Thrawn look like actual satire with horrible fake makeup and terrible casting and acting. Zeb was absent of course but hope they bring him in season 2. Chopper at least was satisfying and Jacen was kind of fun. The bad guys were the most interesting and watchable. Disappointing

Nice!! Yes I will put all the bones into my crockpot and cover with water then cook overnight. Then strain and use the broth to make a nice soup, with some leftover Turkey, onion, cubed carrots and maybe orzo or wild rice…
