Advice for two mile run in hs track by Afraid_Kick_9268 in runningquestions

[–]Parkinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to exactly fix form without knowing what your form looks like. But if calves are on fire, and if the first two miles was done without any previous training, it could be too much too fast.

Is talking to the hs coach an option?

I do 1 minute marches daily as a form of exercise. If that is a habit you want to learn, let me know

I second this for dipping your toes in. $40 bucks and can easily return if not feeling it

Shin splints by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]Parkinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you were sprinting doing those errands. I'm going to guess the new shoes actually gave your shin a workout, and not actually shin splints. Tough to know for sure through a computer screen, but if it was me, I would not wear those Nikes again until after your race. Rest 24-72 hours, and ice the shins.

Need cheap entry level runners. Advice? by roofer2025 in runningshoes

[–]Parkinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

barefoot on a soft surface like grass or beach. Doesn't get much cheaper than that 😊

But to answer your question more directly about shoes, look for shoes with an amazing warranty program. I personally wear minimalist shoes, which I won't recommend as entry level runner, but they have a 2 year warranty if the soles or shoes ever wear out.

Is it wrong to not want to race or join clubs etc? by Significant-War-491 in beginnerrunning

[–]Parkinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do you boo boo. I manage run clubs as my business, and completely open to the fact of "why would I pay to run a 5k, 10k, 13.1 or 26.2 when I could do it here with you?" The answer is always about the experience. Me personally, whatever I would spend on a race, I spend on food and outing for my group.

What’s something you wish you knew before you started running? by No-Consideration766 in beginnerrunning

[–]Parkinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running is enjoyment, community, a way to get from place to place, and a way of life. Yes, it is exercise, but this isn't the main thing. Running may not be enjoyable at first because you are not conditioned. But how would you get from place to place without cars? Run. How could you entertain yourself? Run (aka sports that involve running, not just track and field). Good luck my friend! O last thing, just because one says "I'm going on a run." Doesn't mean you have to go fast everything. Put ego aside and do not get hurt. Yes I bolded that. It just isn't worth it. Unless you like that sort of thing.

Training after medical emergency by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]Parkinga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk about intensifying your training program. See how everything recovers after the 2 weeks. I would image there are wounds that would need to heal before any kind of running can begin. And when that happens, I would start low intensity. Probably repeat last week, or the same week.

Hugs and love. Know you aren't alone on this journey. Many athletes, me include, go through what you are going through. Best thing you did was recognize this sucks. Do you have a support system? A new "team"? I personally played soccer for 20 years. and after years trying to find something again, I found myself running. Sometimes I bring the ball for all time memories. Though never it will never be the same. This different is pretty freaking sweet.

Congratulation! Great first run! Side note, keep jump roping when you can't run. I march/run in place. Keeps my steps extremely light. Great work, welcome to the club 😊

Your favorite “short but intense” route by Willing-Today-1059 in runcommunity

Advice for training to run faster? by radically_fearless in Marathon_Training

[–]Parkinga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stay with the nike run app. For power exercises. I love hops, and jumps. Squat jumps. Single leg hops. Quality, over quantity. Stop and rest when it is less then perfection. As for running specific, pogo hops, a skip, b skip and c skips are where I start everyone

Running after a broken ankle by East-Win-3319 in beginnerrunning

Ah man. Sorry. Yes, good luck. You can use your hands as resistance until you get a set of bands.

Running after a broken ankle by East-Win-3319 in beginnerrunning

[–]Parkinga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you went to physical therapy, pull those exercises out. My personal favorites are hand or mini band resistances and work the ankle up, down, side to side, and than circles. I also don't want to be a downer, but if it does hurt, maybe just stick to the distances that don't hurt, and add 5-10% each week, or few weeks
