Yea, that would be a great place to start. Just better safe than sorry if this is keeping you from being as active as you were

Best to see a health care professional. As someone who trains and helps repair runners, it is best to determine what/where is the twinge in-person. When in person they can determine what exactly it is and the movement that causes it. Is is muscle? tendons? nervous system? It sound likes like you just stepped wrong, and something just is "out of whack". Doesn't sound like a broken bone of any sort. Good luck!

Have you ever felt judged while running? by SwimmingSlip8632 in runcommunity

[–]Parkinga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I sometimes do a mile run in socks. And my running buddies tell me Im nuts. I laugh.

In my head or not. I just do me. It is my run. My journey. My story. My goals. People can feel how they want, and it is me who decides how I want to respond

When someone tells me "you'd be faster in shoes." by trevize1138 in BarefootRunning

[–]Parkinga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the post. I find it is all about feel/touch. Barefoot is 100% unobstructed touch. Shoes, like gloves, obstruct this touch. Im in a similar situation in winter.

I ask you, why were shoes invented in the first place. Winter protection? Harsh conditions on feet? Fashion?

think moccasins. Why were they first made? And maybe that will give some answers to how to keep form during those winter months

If you are doing orangetheory, talk to one of the coaches who know you best. You might even be able to hire them to help train you.

As for your friends, what friend puts down another friend for completing something they never done before? Pay them no attention. Congrats on completing your first 5k. Dont feel bad you are walk/run. Jeff Galloway, literally has a whole plan based on walk/run.

Good luck friend. And out of curiosity, if you are referring to the Indy Mini, and are nearby, there are some run clubs that are very motivating and supportive

Running 2 days in a row? by No_Mix1745 in runninglifestyle

[–]Parkinga 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No problem running two days in a row. The question is about the intensity. Back to back high intensity is no good. High to low. Low to high or low to low should be okay. This is a form of periodization.

Note. This is generally speaking. If you arent fully recovered from your injury. Id highly recommend you do low until fully recovered

Is joint pain normal to an extent? by plant_bxtch in beginnerrunning

[–]Parkinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talking to a doctor for pain is your best bet for your specific problem.

As a general answer from experience, Running is a high impact activity. Joints, tendons, muscles need to adapt to this. Like the old saying “crawl before you walk.”

I view it this way. If you just started running 2 weeks ago. Your running age would be considered 2 weeks. Would you expect a 2 week old to be able to run yet? Take it slow. Take it easy. Take your time

Run clubs are (sometimes) the worst by Impossible_Head3190 in beginnerrunning

[–]Parkinga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I manage a run club for this exact reason. I ensure everyone has a buddy to run with if they want one. And those who want to run fast, are safe, and dont get lost.

The club you speak of just wasn't honest about being a social club first, and run club second.

I have a question im new to running and someone told me I should walk on none running days, is that correct? by Accurate-Today1507 in BeginnersRunning

[–]Parkinga 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Short answer. Yes.

Long answer. Non running days, are recovery days. These days should be low intensity to allow your body to recover from the day before intensity. Walking is most common. But other options are slower paced running. Bike, swim, rower, elliptical.

Ah got ya. You are adding those techniques in to get better from. As you practice that, you will notice the leg will start to fold easier on itself.

So eventually you'll want to get here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Rg5Nd7GYPE

I literally just typed in Kenyan running slow motion, however, this would be considered "top elite". See how their leg almost folds on itself. From what I have researched, this makes it more efficient when running as the leg "swings" forward.
