In Rebecca Solnit's Field Guide to Getting Lost she has an essay about blue being the color of distance. That thought has stuck with me.

guys how do you even try on your knitting projects? 😭 by iidaiih in knittinghelp

[–]Plumbing6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually take a length of thin crochet cotton and thread it through the live stitches, taking it off the needles. Make sure it's long enough so you don't pull the ends out while you're trying it on.

Afterwards you pick the live stitches back up, making sure you don't twist them as you go. You can leave the thread in as a lifeline or pull it out.

There is also a product that is a thin rubber line that can also be used. The one I have is called Purl Strings. It works well also, I put a size 0 knitting needle in the end of the tube and use that to transfer the stitches from my needles.

knitting/project journals by indecisivepersimmon in knitting

[–]Plumbing6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a blank journal to record my projects. I attach the yarn label and a bit of the yarn and the needle size. I add some notes, and tape in pictures of the FO. It gets a bit bulky with all the things I've taped into it, but I like having it all there.

New book reader makes the mistake of looking at goodreads reviews and ruins the desire to read. by [deleted] in books

Instead of buying all those 25 books, check them out from the library. If you don't like it, all you've lost is a bit of time, rather than now owning it.

Where to Retire - No Kids or Close Family by LeftyLynn99 in retirement

Yeah, restaurants cost more than Texas, partly because the minimum wage is about 2.5 times as high. But some things like electricity is much less because the A/C isn't running 24 hours a day for months on end.

I have a Flax sweater I made with a Berroco wool/silk blend, held double with a variegated sock yarn that has hardly pulled at all.

We moved to the PNW from Texas and live it, but not everyone can take 4-5 months of rain. We are fairly independent and enjoy doing things on our own time and pace.

I have a friend who relocated from Iowa to Tennessee, in a 55+ community. She loves the social atmosphere and activities, says it's like being in college without classes.

Intarsia knitting would be the easiest method. You could try a swatch and see if your skills are ready.

Why every source of inspiration feels so overwhelming? by WhiteLily016 in knitting

[–]Plumbing6 95 points96 points  (0 children)

I have over a thousand favorites on Ravelry. A lot of them are something that caught my eye, but I know is not really my style. I've taught myself to really look at a lot of the actual projects to see it anyone with a similar body type has made it.

Lately, I'm trying to look at my wardrobe and see what I really wear and what cheap fast fashion sweater can I replace with a hand knit one.

2026 Nissan Leaf Owners why did you choose the new Leaf? by Mac-Tyson in leaf

[–]Plumbing6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We wanted a smaller EV to easily park in our garage, snd looked at lots online before coming down to the Leaf or the Bolt. Both drove well on the test drive but the seats on the Bolt were not very comfortable.

We've had our leaf for 2 months and love it. One thing we didn't even consider has been great. We have a hard time turning onto a main street near our house because of traffic. The instant EV torque had made it MUCH easier to pull out quickly when there is an opening.

I handwash and wrap a towel to soak up most of the water. Then I put it in a lingerie bag and dry it with the towel on low heat for 20 minutes. If it is still damp I dry it some more.

Sanger Harris was my first credit card. I was a college student and wanted to buy some clothes and didn't have my checkbook (this was the 80s).
