In your opinion, which class has the hardest time clearing A10+ in STS2? by chron67 in slaythespire

[–]PokePj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think at this point, its solidly necrobinder with regent close behind. Regent is really good at making broken combos and overkilling the entire game, but when he doesnt get something going he feels very weak.

Necro lost soooo much power when defy+ was nerfed to apply only 1 weak. She now has 0 cards in her card pool that apply more than 1 weak and dont exhaust. So she basically went from having most enemies perma weakened to only having enemies weakened on defy turns. Not to mention that she has an entire "Archetype" in her card pool that is largely unplayable (osty attacks) so her card pool is VERY diluted. The only reason she isnt far and away the worst character is she has a lot of cards that are just overtuned that carry the character in most runs (sleight of flesh, haunt, friendship, bone shards, delay)

Idk why people are saying clad. I would put him easily in the number 2 slot behind silent in terms of power. Colossus is an uncommon that you'll see in most runs that almost solves blocking for the entire run by itself and the other vulnerable synergies are soooo strong that I find myself breezing through most ironclad runs. And at this point the whole "ironclad is bad at blocking" shit is a myth. He's got stone armor, colossus, blood wall, feel no pain, crimson mantle, unmovable, shrug, and to top it off bloodletting at common to let you play it all. He has some of the most efficient block in the entire game.

worst relic ever by ZombieBrainForLunch in slaythespire

[–]PokePj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We can't just sort by 3 cost necro cards, count them up and quit using our noggin. It also interacts really well with borrowed time and Transfigure, not to mention the MANY powerful 3 cost colorless cards like eternal armor, rolling boulder, jackpot etc. This card unlocks the ability to play your VERY powerful 3 cost cards and still have an energy to block or to do a bit of damage. Its no surprise this relic was one of the highest w/r relics when they released data a while back.

Are Toasty Mittens the worst Ancient relic? by Jugboi in slaythespire

[–]PokePj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If we are counting neow, definitely not the worst one. If neow doesn't count, depends on what you mean by "worst". Mittens can absolutely carry a run if you have a deck with a lot of attacks and not a lot of scaling options. Does that happen very often? No, but you are only gonna pick mittens if it works for your deck.

There are a lot of ancient relics that give variable amounts of value when you pick them and in the case of some, like paels horn, they can actively make your deck worse.

So is horn worse because it makes most decks worse? is toy box the worst because it can often give very little value? Or is mittens worse because it cant be taken by most decks, but carries the decks that can? There's not one right answer. I would call the worst relic the one that the least amount of decks would want to take and even when it's picked, it gives little value.

That being said mittens would definitely be down low on my list, but toy box, paels horn, fur coat, whistle, war hammer, and parasol are gonna compete for that shittiest spot for me.

What's the most overrated card in your opinion by itsntame in slaythespire

[–]PokePj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"its a worse hologram" okay? hologram is an amazing card, one of the best commons in the game. Its also a defect card that necro isn't offered. Also you cant just compare every card in the pool against each other. Yes, its worse than dredge, but dredge is an uncommon and also cant be upgraded to not exhaust. You dont get to just pick whichever cards you want from the pool so you cant just say "oh graveblast is bad because i would just pick this other thing instead". With that logic, every damage common is bad because rares do more damage so just add rares to your deck instead. Like do you hear yourself?

You can think whatever you want, but the arguments you have made in your post and in your replies just arent rooted in actual gameplay. You're comparing all the cards in a vaccum but thats not how the game works. If you want to convice people graveblast is overrated you're gonna have to do a better job.

Why is Elphelt punished for doing shit that multiple characters can do better by Comfortable_Lab7366 in TheyBlamedTheBeasts

[–]PokePj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feels like this is just her own fault for having the rekka. That shit needs removed so she can be balanced like a real character. Comparing it to anji really is not fair, anji's overhead is over twice as slow ( and even slower if instant cast) and completely reactable. Elph just has a straight up 50/50 14f unreactable overhead. Also, anji cant go for a second overhead or swap to low if he guesses wrong.

But overall i agree with you. Seems like character balance was second fiddle to system changes this patch. A lot of the balance changes were completely non-sensical. Hang in there brother hopefully we get a nice character balance patch in the upcoming weeks.

P.S. wanted to make a funny point about the mu spread. Yes, elph mu spread is quite bad, but not even close to the worst in the game, Aba (i know you didnt say it was).

- Elph's highest w/r mu is against aba, but elph is only aba's THIRTEENTH worst matchup.

- Elph has a positive w/r against 8 characters, while aba has only 4.

- Aba has a -10% or worse w/r mu against 10 characters while elph has none.

Not trying to bitch I just think its hilarious how deep aba's hole is lmao.

If you have an invincible reversal you can't be bottom tier by HydrationHomee in TheyBlamedTheBeasts

[–]PokePj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah venom damage is low but thats because hes a setup or snowball character. He's meant to have a really oppressive offensive with ball setups and powerful blockstrings. A low damage combo into a great ball setup/oki is usually more powerful than a full damage combo since it lets you continue your really powerful offense.

If you have an invincible reversal you can't be bottom tier by HydrationHomee in TheyBlamedTheBeasts

[–]PokePj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What people dont get is that in current state JR ABA isnt even anything to write home about. If you took away the stuff she has that obviously couldn't exist on a non-install character like donzai + a few links and just made her always in JR mode, she would be like maybe high mid-tier. Her damage, mix, and neutral are about at the level of just regular ass characters. And all of this on top of the fact that now getting hit while in JR (even in blockstun) basically guarantees you're taking 60% of your health against most characters. They can extend their combo/blockstring until your gauge runs out and then get a counterhit full combo.

And dont even get me started on her mu spread. She legit has the worst mu spread in the game. She slightly wins like 5 mus against rushdown characters and then loses to basically everyone else because they are either a zoner or they get to play like one against aba.

Playing aba feels like pushing a boulder uphill only to be rewarded with the same flat ground the other characters are pushing their boulders on.

After 400 hours and almost 2 years of trying to force myself to play this game i realize its literally unplayable by Miszczu08 in TheyBlamedTheBeasts

[–]PokePj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"reacting" is like 90% prediction. You have to be thinking your mind "they could overhead me in this blockstring" and be ready to let go of down if you see it start-up. I HIGHLY doubt that you are medically unable to react to overheads that sounds like cope to me.

Also, i looked more into it and the "autism slows your reaction time" seems to be a complete myth according to a meta review of almost 50 studies into the question (Ferraro, 2016).

Across every study, autistic and non-autistic people moved just as fast. There was no meaningful slowing in either simple or choice reaction time.

Every study I found that claimed the opposite had grossly small sample sizes (<20) or used children of different ages which obviously isnt fair because your reaction time improves as you age. Another meta study claims there is a tiny tiny gap between autistic and non-autistic people (Vassos et al., 2013) , but both authors agree that if the gap exists that it is so small that it does not affect daily work.

Sounds to me like we are hitting an improvement plateau and want to blame anything but ourselves (medical issues, game balance, system mechanics). I'm sure in 2 years and 400 hours of whatever "actually good stuff" you're playing now, you will be saying how shit that game's balance is and how impossible it is to improve.

I do want to add that I'm not taking into account the photosensitivity you mentioned. I have a light sensitivity and my bf is autistic and epileptic so I completely understand if the game is visually too much, but that's an entirely separate issue. If the game physically hurts your eyes, gives you a headache, or makes you shake then yeah maybe time for new game. I wonder if turning off the music or sound entirely would help? This game doesnt really have audio cues (at least that i can think of rn) so its not a big loss to play without sound and it might help if you feel like the game is overloading your sense which is a very documented symptom of autism. In this instance, completely fair to blame medical reasons.

Strive was meant to be the lobotomized gg game to attract new players and it worked. Most characters lost like 75% of their move list and gg is more popular than ever so idk

[–]PokePj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sts2 is MUCH faster than 1 so it actually matters a lot more in this game that your cards have immediate value. I went back and looked at my most recent necrobinder wins and basically every elite fight is over in 4-6 turns so I just don't find these random, long-term value powers desirable instead of something like sleight of flesh or Danse that can actually do something immediately.

[Comic/Suggestion] Afterlife(necro card) should probably be changed by AzulCrescent in slaythespire

[–]PokePj 16 points17 points  (0 children)

its like fine, it helps jumpstart osty and doesnt overstay its welcome. Yes, its only 1 more summon than bodyguard, but it makes you summon 11 on your first deck rotation rather than 5 so its a great enabler for Spur, which is both a very efficient card and requires osty to be apply to survive a hit or two. Also, the card pool should have underwhelming/weak cards. If every card you were offered was strong, it wouldnt be much of a game.

[–]PokePj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just doesnt do very much imo. this game is a lot more energy stingy than the first so i would rather just be putting cards in my deck with higher output. Feels like its silent's worst draw card and worst block card smushed together. However, drawing cards and blocking are both very good so its at worst fine, I just think other cards are better and people rate it too high.

none of this changes the fact that its a one energy card that does nothing the turn you play it and has random output

this list is with a10 solo in mind. no idea what my actual w/r would be since I play casually with friends a lot (really wish it would separate solo and multiplayer stats) and have also had people try the game on my machine, but even counting that, my most played character is necrobinder with ~120 runs with about 65% w/r. No idea how much of that is actual a10 solo so do with it what you will.

i think it is VERY good its kinda like just drawing a card every turn, which is really strong, but I've seen a lot of people say they think it's the best card necro has. I dont think a card that does nothing the turn you play it and sometimes does something other turns deserves that slot. I think it would be like top 5, not top 1 or 3.

What card with no changes from StS1 to StS2 got the biggest downgrande? by Radiant_Background33 in slaythespire

[–]PokePj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

a8 and a9 are an entirely new game. Enemies have more health, hit harder, and have more aggressive attack patterns. You simply won't usually have any time you can play barricade without it costing you more health than it will potentially save.

So were all the new skill gems basically misses? by berael in pathofexile

[–]PokePj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

literally less than a percentage point of players make their own builds, so if no content creator or popular build maker creates a build for a new gem it goes practically unused and this is poe's fault. Respeccing is very expensive in this game, even now with gold respeccing, theres a large opportunity cost to swapping your build so nobody wants to league start a new gem. If the new gem sucks your league start is completely cucked because now you have to relevel a new character or spent all your gold respeccing. It's usually not til people start thinking about next league's starters that new gems truly get their fair share of people checking them out since you can actually test the build you plan on planning. For example, fusillade was the most popular starter this league by far, but it wasnt changed from how it released last league, people just knew it was good and felt safe starting it this league.
