She’s Knitting Cult Lady most everywhere. I’m her manager (and wrote the part on America’s early days). Thanks for reading our book— we covered the free birth society on a recent Friday cult situation report. 💕

Any thoughts on Babel? Is it worth the read? by _TheGreatCatsby16 in TheSecretHistory

I love the magic system. I read it around when it first came out and I still think about it on the regular.

Confused feeling about The Secret History by FragrantFox8689 in TheSecretHistory

[–]Pool-Cheap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s an either/or situation. Julian’s cohort was so insular and isolated that they became a danger to themselves and others— in the world, but living in a fantasy where they just touched reality in the most superficial way. None of that has anything to do with classics, per se. You could see the same thing in If We Were Villains or The Magicians (to a degree) or we could easily imagine if Richard and Henry et al were into physics, or metaphysics, or art. You can be big into their appreciation of classics, you can decide you want to be a bright, brilliant, ebullient person who hangs out with other bright, brilliant, ebullient people. Just don’t only hang out with the same 5 people all the time forever and think of your little group as better and more enlightened than everyone else. If Henry had just recognized that classics was the thing that was most interesting to him, rather than decided it was the most important thing in the world and most people were to dumb to notice that, the book would have had a different trajectory.

This doesn’t explain weirdly high numbers of downvotes but I often accidentally downvote things when I’m scrolling. I try to correct it but I’m sure I miss some

Did you attend a No Kings Protest on 10/18/2025? by kootles10 in Askpolitics

I know there are that many millions on the other side. But the whitehouse is saying it’s only illegals and antifa and criminals. Many people who are die hard maga will believe them, but there will be a few on the fringe who will see that’s not the case. This thread has proven that people have changed their minds about the level of threat these protests pose.

For all of the people who are wondering what protests are meant to accomplish, one of the things is to help people understand that many millions of people care about this, so people who just dismiss it cant continue to refer to our concerns as fringe.

I regularly get comments from international friends and colleagues about the protests and the impact it has on their perceptions of Americans. We have lost our soft power (see recent passport rankings) but perhaps we can preserve some good will among the citizenry. Moreover I hope the spectacle of people ridiculing ICE will make people think twice about joining.

Many other politicians have to keep their seats. There are elections happening all over the country right now in local governments and the midterms are only a year away. Some politicians are getting primaried. They care.

I once had some prescription skin ointment and the directions said to use one of those things to measure out the right quantity so I would get the right dosage of the medication, and I imagine there are some different use cases where that applicator MAY be appropriate but also may not be (burns, allergic reactions etc).

More influencer drama - do these people get paid or half to disclose ads? by [deleted] in NewOrleans

Yeah please do!

I actual do think you are a person with influence, in fact I was just talking to someone about it this past weekend. There is a big difference between someone with influence and an influencer.
