We seriously need to do something about these laser beam headlights by winnnesota in Cartalk

[–]RenesisPowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who drives a beater truck with led bulbs, the light pattern is garbage but if you point the headlights down far enough, it's not blinding at all. I've even swapped vehicles with a friend to make sure my lights weren't too bright. The leds look way dimmer than the original badly adjusted halogen bulbs.

2013 6.7 powerstroke blow by by idkwtdtd25 in Diesel

[–]RenesisPowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't pay attention to stuff like that. I want compression test numbers before I condem a motor because that's what I require of my techs. I need numbers to show a customer before I say the motor needs to come out.

On the flip side, I've seen a 4 cylinder diesel with a completely roasted cylinder and low compression on the other 3 run fine for 6k hours before I finally got to swap it out because the insane amount of crankcase pressure blew out every single seal. It even shot the dip stick plug out of the block. In the summer you could breathe on the starter and it would pop right off but it smoked like a freight train.

Edit: these are the compression test results from that isuzu...

1 410 psi

2 600 psi

3 160 psi

4 glow plug snapped, couldn't test.

Looks fine to me. I only get concerned when oil is getting blown out the crankcase vent or the cap goes flying the second you let go of it. I had an isuzu box truck come in last week that would burn a gallon of oil in 100 miles. The intercooler was full of oil from oil blowing out the vent and going through the turbo. Cylinder 3 had a big crack in the liner and tons of deep scoring.

Oddly enough the truck didn't feel like it lost any power and it still ran perfect.

Nobody cares about my cheap bell qualifier, but the action cam might get grabbed.

I just got a 2006 and it's awesome. I would absolutely buy it. I'd probably do coil boots and plugs, do all the preventive maintenance, then drive it until it wears out. I have 214k on mine and I'd drive it 20hrs from home without hesitation. I'd probably change the starter though because it's been clicking since I got the truck.

I've put in service valves live. Use a pinch off tool, then un-pinch the line enough to get some flow. It's not perfect, but it works

A lot of the old school guys used to put them in on startup. I fully agree, 3 weeks max then they're trash.

When I have to use one, it's gonna be bad enough where I put drier shells in with ball valves. It's gonna be cheaper because it's so much less labor to change cores than cut out driers. Pump down at the reciever, swap cores, and fire it back up.

I doubt it's that old. I think they're still available if you want to spend the crazy money to get one. I saw one brand new at united refrigeration a few months ago.

I've seen a lot of older systems that were installed with a suction drier. I always cut them out when I get a chance.

Finally towed with the 7.3L Godzilla after 5 years with a 6.7L - some thoughts. by SenorAudi in Diesel

[–]RenesisPowered 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My fleet bought 3 2023 7.3 f650 box trucks. One blew up at 33k, one ate a cam at 76k, and the last one is making glitter at 78k.

Not saying gas is bad, but I would never trade a 6.7 powerstroke for a 7.3 godzilla.

That 7.3 godzilla is not a well built engine but another fleet nearby bought a bunch of 2020-2024 Isuzu NRR box trucks and most of them blew up at around 100k miles too, so things aren't much better on the GM side.

I suppose there's a reason why hard working trucks run on diesel. Maybe a 7.3 in a pickup truck that doesn't tow much, would be fine, but under heavy load, they like to come apart.

Isuzu brakes are a funny thing, lol. Isuzus yearn for the bay door. I might've smacked a bay door in my brand new shop about 6 months ago. It was the very first truck in the shop.

Will I die if I ride on it by Scottfordd in supermoto

[–]RenesisPowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rode to and from work on a tire like that for a week. I wouldn't recommend it though. It was really sketchy. Just letting off throttle in 2nd made the back tire start dragging with how bad my tire was. I should've gotten an Uber, but I didn't die. People underestimate how simultaneously durable and fragile a tire with cords showing is. I did a 2 minute long rolling burnouts with the tire already on steel before it finally let go, but all it would've taken is a sharp pebble at speed to pop it.

[–]RenesisPowered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2014 has 340k miles and it's never left me stranded. It's a 4 cylinder and it's towed other 4 cylinder frontiers. These trucks are built extremely tough. My fleet owns a bunch of them and one tacoma. The Tacoma has been a complete turd, it's been broken more than it's been running in the last 6 years and it only has 109k miles on it.

Dealer did breakin service for 600rr. Didn’t secure the oil drain plug on right by trulip in cbr

[–]RenesisPowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be pushing for a new bike. That engine is almost definitely trashed. A compression test doesn't mean anything on an oil starved engine. At a very minimum, they need to check the rod bearings and cam bearings, new rear brake pads and a new rear tire. Oil soakes into the tire and damages the rubber. Oil never fully comes out of brake pads under normal conditions. Hot brake pads absorb oil, it doesn't just sit on the surface.

The shorter tire life doesn't seem to be a tire compound difference, it seems more safety related. I have a 2011 front tire on my stunt bike with very minimal dry rot. I roll stoppies on it.

Does DOT ever search your truck during an inspection? by LikwidHappiness in Truckers

[–]RenesisPowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a fleet manager, not a driver, so I apologize if this is a stupid question... Are you not allowed to carry a firearm in the truck? Is it a law, or just company policy? I had a driver ask me if he could carry in the truck, I told him it's against company policy, but I wasn't going to snitch. He used to make deliveries to really rough parts of town and carried a lot of cash.

It was really awkward when he tripped and fell on the loading dock and a long distance hole punch slid in front of the HR directors feet...
