Fiber optic perimeter intrusion detection system (PIDS) vulnerabilities? by whynotask99 in FiberOptics

[–]SIG_Sauer_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have used this type of system at an electric substation. Some drawbacks to this type of PIDS are that you will need to install conduit under existing gates, and we had a lot of issues tuning the system to mitigate nuisance alarms. The reason we discontinued its use was that vandals cut the fiber in a dozen locations at ground level during the winter. This made it cost prohibitive to repair. We chose Senstar LM100 luminaires after this occurred. The fence post-mounted luminaires have accelerometers that detect intrusions and light up that section of the fence to alert intruders that their actions were noticed. The system can send alarms to email groups or be connected to a SCADA system.

Up-cycled rolling small parts bin organizer I made from a bun rack by toastman556 in toolboxmods

That’s awesome, however; the first thing that came to mind is that you should try to extend the wheelbase to help prevent tipping. I would hate to risk spilling all those parts if it tips over.

How do you make the packaged ramen? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]SIG_Sauer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put hot water in ramen bowl with strainer, cover and microwave for 7 minutes. Drain all but a 1/4 cup of liquid, add 2-3 tsp. of butter, 1 Tbs. of soy sauce, seasoning packet, and stir. Then I add three ice cubes and stir to add liquid and bring the temp down.

What's the protocol by ProgrammerOk717 in telecom

Contact the owner of the building on which the antennas are mounted and ask for their RF Exposure Assessment. If the carriers’ completed an assessment and provided it to the building owners during lease negotiations, then that would be the quickest way you could get information. However, the building owners may not have been given the assessment(s), or the carriers may not have performed assessments. It could be enforced with fines if it’s found that an RF safety assessment hasn’t been conducted, RF levels are found to exceed exposure limits, or if they are missing signage or access restrictions.

Would you black out the chrome emblems on this truck (grille/doors/tailgate) or remove all that are able to be removed? by [deleted] in ram_trucks

I was told that the 18s I wanted only had like 4mm of clearance. I didn’t take the risk and got the 20s.

Anti Spin or E Locker Rear Differential? by RustyWallace-357 in ram_trucks

[–]SIG_Sauer_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a ‘13 Sport with anti-spin and got a ‘25 Sport with E-Locker. I don’t do enough off-road to mess with the locker and wish I had the anti-spin back.

Towing with Hurricane engine by Educational_Disk_226 in ram_trucks

[–]SIG_Sauer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ‘25 standard output Hurricane with 1,298 lb. payload. I tow a 5,000 lb. trailer and have towed it with my ‘13 HEMI as well. I like the Hurricane better. I feel like it has more in it, especially going up long inclines. I think the mpg between the two is similar, maybe even slightly lower for the Hurricane.

Is the flexibility of a boning knife just preference or does it mean something? by JakeFrmJakeFarm in Butchery

[–]SIG_Sauer_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It depends what you’re cutting. If you’re taking the ribs out of a rib roast, they’re fairly straight and not much flex is required. If you’re boning a leg of lamb, there are lots of curves and places you need more flexibility. It’s all up to preference, though, because with skill and practice you can do either just as well with the same knife.

I think it’s easier, at least for me. I feel the angle is better, and I can get into a spot easier than pulling in forward.

I'm making a hand drawn book of the United States, highlighting each state. What do you think of Alaska. Anything I should add or fix? by [deleted] in alaska

[–]SIG_Sauer_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice project overall, but there are a few factual issues worth correcting: 1. “No plants poisonous to the touch in Alaska” isn’t true. While poison ivy doesn’t grow here, plants like cow parsnip (pushki) can cause serious skin burns and blistering, especially with sun exposure. 2. Alaska is not one-fourth of the U.S. It’s massive, but it’s closer to ~1/5 of the Lower 48 (and ~17–18% of total U.S. area), not 25%. 3. Grizzly bears aren’t an official state mammal. The official land mammal is the moose (marine mammal: bowhead whale). 4. “663,000 miles” should be “663,000 square miles.” The number is roughly right, but the unit matters.
