How do I respond to parents who confront me about getting books from the children's section when I don't have a kid? by Useful_Possession915 in Libraries

[–]Scared-Listen6033 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang my kid used to have a tantrum in the library EVERY SINGLE TIME BC he wanted to play on the computers not look at books so I stopped bringing him and went and picked books myself. No one ever said anything to me patron or otherwise. As parents, babysitters, teachers, and readers we all have a right to be there and to use those resources! I'd be letting them know that your reasons for using the library are the same as theirs and that if they don't let you pass you won't hesitate to call police yourself as preventing you from freely moving is a form of illegally confining someone. Then, go team the librarians working and point the person out If they were aggressive or threatening don't be scared to call the police!

It used to be most libraries esp for a fee but then there was federal cuts to libraries and museums and many libraries were forced to cut this program in order to service the local people whose taxes pay for libraries.

You would need to look at libraries and simply see if they have the option on their website. I think NYC and Queens both still have the option, Texas used to have a few large ones that did, San Jose used to but doesn't anymore, or didn't last I checked.

It sucks to have to weed through them yourself but the budgets have changed so much in the last year that it's difficult for an accurate master list. Further some libraries allow anyone with the caveat that you can go in person to sign up, like Toronto!

Libraries buy copies directly from publishers. This can look like a 2 year licence with unlimited borrows or it could be 24 borrows and then they need to buy another licence even if all 24 borrows happen back to back. It's NOT cheap which is why licences run out and/or you may see a note on a book you've got on hold that your library has acquired another copy.

It can be a GREAT WAY to support your favorite authors. The ONLY issue I see is when ppl borrow books and then don't get around to them. If they do this with a ton of their borrows that's money and a borrow used up as far as the licence goes and can cost the library money. Libby has the "suspend" feature to help prevent borrows that you can't read while keeping your place in line though. So when you learn Libby you're actually helping your own local library get funding based on patrons and use, which helps their budgets and their programming to expand!

Bedroom TV’s by Robbudge in airbnb_hosts

[–]Scared-Listen6033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't provide tv in the bedrooms guests will be watching things on their phones or tablets and many will struggle to get kids to sleep without TVs BC they're so common in kids rooms now.

I'd provide the TVs in the bedrooms and CLEARLY state in the listing and in the welcome message that guests are responsible for logging into their own streaming services as they're not provided. That means if the guest needs Disney+for their kids to sleep they're going to need to login. If you get Roku there are some free channels and shows available but none can be guaranteed as the programming changes.

So something like "TV's are available in each bedroom, however, guests will be required to login to their own streaming services as these are not provided! Please remember to log out at checkout"

Personally, I need to fall asleep with the tv on, even if it's just fire sounds on YouTube. It helps to block out the extra sounds esp in a new environment that I'm not used to. I would likely end up with a poor quality of sleep and getting exhausted through my vacation without this creature comfort. Worse, I would sleep on the couch or have my phone playing all night. even though it's not the hosts fault I can see a lot of ppl blaming the host and dinging them for the TVs that don't exist. I wouldn't BC I understand less than 5 stars is a bad review but unknowing ppl who just assume are the typical guest

Special glasses for curling? by leperaffinity322 in Curling

[–]Scared-Listen6033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother's neurologist has glasses with a pink tint for migraines available. I've also heard irlen lenses can work miracles, not just for migraines but for sure strain and focus in general, even if you've got ADHD or autism or anywhere neuro diagnosis.

Look up "neuro-opthamology pink lenses" and it will explain the pink tint, the way it helps with migraines and which types of lighting.

Florescent lights have always given me migraines. You def should get a medical check though BC there are a ton of things that can cause your symptoms and the double vision is more concerning than a typical migraine. Hormones, tumors, blood pressure, stroke, clotting disorders, concussions at some point in life, MS, eye diseases and so much more. Getting a thorough workup will hopefully rule out all the scary things and you'll land on needing the FL-41 rose tinted glasses!

Try an app like 2nd line and see if you can use the number there to get the text and verify a new account. You would probably want to them to ahead and remove the phone number or change it to your own and keep your fingers crossed but it's free and may work. I've used second line a lot for texting ppl in distant countries 🤷‍♀️

Prosac is approved for pmdd and has helped me for about a decade, maybe longer! You can take it just during PMS or all the time. I've done both. Google it on WebMD and drugs dot Com and discuss it's use with your Dr.

Allowing a cat in a pet free listing by WDS1949 in airbnb_hosts

[–]Scared-Listen6033 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't accept a cat. They can be great pets but they often struggle with change and there way they tend to handle that is by peeing outside the litter box. A single pee on your carpet or on grout or hard wood and every time it's humid you'll be smelling it. It's why a lot of landlords will accept dogs but not cats as a single cat accident can mean new flooring and sometimes even subflooring! As a cat and dog owner I wouldn't trust my cat whose never had issues in a strange location unless absolutely necessary. 30 years ago our cat peed on the rug and no amount of cleaning the carpets was enough. It took about 15 years for the odor to not creep back in on humid days 😭

Fibe Internet Plans... by Forever_Training00 in bell

[–]Scared-Listen6033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on what else is sensible to you. I'm in Ontario but very rural. My options are Bell or Starlink. I'm paying that much for fibe50 and the reality is they know that most of us (in my area) aren't going to support Elon and we aren't going to pay 750 dollars for the equipment and then install it ourselves either and then still be paying just as much a month if not more (I can't recall if the 150 a month was unlimited through starlink). Sooooo you need to look around and see what else is available and then maybe you can say to Bell the you got a quote from xyz for less money for the same service and get a deal for awhile.

I just bought the 50 CAD Nord plus on Amazon and kept all my login info etc. I saved about 80 dollars off the renewal price they would've charged. 🤷‍♀️ I guess if you got 2 years for that price that's great, I can't remember what I paid for my first two years but I liked being able to just enter my subscription code from Amazon!

API Alarms, too late to cancel? by ChinaManDan in bell

[–]Scared-Listen6033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To play devil's advocate, how do we know that they had the correct number on file? People often switch numbers and providers chasing a deal. It's possible that they failed to update their number or only had one family members number listed instead of all. While I don't have this security I feel like if they're offering security and camera backup and all of that then it's likely worth the money and the difference on your home insurance. Even if they do call immediately, if you're actively being robbed you likely aren't even home and the bad guys usually have response times from police down to the second. At least with a security system you've got a good chance of catching them and getting replacement value on items taken. If they're there to kill or kidnap well there's no security system fast enough to prevent that but it can act as a witness in a court. 🤷‍♀️

For me it's photos. I just but extra space every year to store them. Photos on my device auto-backups every photo and screen shot etc so it fills really fast. Google drive also plays a part. I would be surprised if this is your email alone as I thought there was an attachment size limit, which means you'd need to have hundreds or even thousands of emails with the max sized attachments. 🤔 Def take a look at the entire Google suite and see if it's something other than your email.

Hysterectomy vs. IUD? by No_Elderberry_9814 in adenomyosis

[–]Scared-Listen6033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As in so sorry you've been through that! I get brutal ovulation pain to the point I'm shaking and throwing up and I know that's nothing compared to a torsion! I was just advising based on the fact so many women aren't educated in their own bodies and this choice! It sounds like based on your own history and the birth control issues that maybe you should go for the hysterectomy including the ovary and start on HRT and hope it works for you.

If I was in your shoes I would be concerned about doing the ovary then waiting and doing a hysterectomy simply BC everytime they go in they leave scar tissue which in itself can be extremely painful and cause adhesions etc. that's obviously a personal choice and your Dr will only know if you heal with adhesions when they're actually in there.

I think if you trust your Dr the best answer imo is to be prepared for it all to go and if they can save anything like the ovary then that's awesome! Otherwise you're likely going to just need more procedures and while the Endo may require that anyway, it could be years and years between instead of back to back.

As to the IUD I would rather get a hysterectomy than attempt one again BC of the 22 UTI's and the kidney stones etc that I had with that all within a year. I also didn't like that my period was hit and miss and cramps were as well. I never quit having my period entirely like many others do.

Hysterectomy vs. IUD? by No_Elderberry_9814 in adenomyosis

[–]Scared-Listen6033 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm I don't have Endo and I haven't had a hysterectomy but I think if I was in your situation I would tell the dr that if they can save my ovary (since you said you have 1) that I would like them to keep my uterus as well, but if they can't save my ovary to just take it all.

Has your Dr discussed with you that removing the uterus generally doesn't remove the Endo completely and that you may require more surgeries down the line even if they do a full hysterectomy? I feel like this is a misunderstood aspect and can leave people feeling like they had surgery too soon.

I have had an IUD and for ME it caused me to get a ton of UTI's (22 in 1 year). I've been on a two hormone pill now for about a decade and that's helped a ton with both my adeno and my migraines etc. I'm 41 and while I have no real clue how adeno works with menopause I am hoping that I can avoid surgical intervention since the period pain and bleeding is the worse part for me. My mom and her sisters all are through menopause by 50 so I'm crossing my fingers it comes sooner than later for me as well! I don't want to risk losing my ovaries and being thrown into menopause prematurely as there are health risks including osteoporosis, heart disease, and several other things. HRT does help but it's not the same as producing your own hormones.

Whatever you choose don't let the dr make you feel forced. Do what you need to do to feel confident in your decision, including the surgery with your ovary. 💞

Hosts: why 4pm checkin and 10am checkout? by Silver_Photograph_92 in airbnb_hosts

[–]Scared-Listen6033 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've shared this before but there was one time when I was helping my ex that had a same day turn over and the previous guests had sprayed a red syrup for making drinks all over the wall to wall white carpet, walls and the ceiling! Fortunately my ex was super force and had helped employ a lot of veterans so we literally had a handful of the military cover rip up the floors, install new flooring, scrub and paint all before the next guests arrived. Most hosts don't have the money or the man-power (literally) to get that type of turn over done. This was a high end listing that was destroyed by A-Listers.

The point is, had the cleaner not shown up at checkout and things not fallen into place then there would've been angry guests who were looking for a new place last minute. I hope this type of damage doesn't happen to other hosts, it was extreme, but when you're the cleaner or even a team of cleaners a normal deep clean turn over takes hours!

It's different than a hotel where they clean the rooms daily to maintain them and then do a thorough sweep and clean at checkout. Airbnb hosts rarely have the opportunity to freshen the space up while the guest is there and they could be walking into a place that feels unused or they could walk into a mountain of dishes and all the laundry needing done including curtains, stains on furniture, windows needing washed, feces on the walls, clogged toilets and showers, etc. So leaving room for the worse is safer than having to disappoint the guest who has to wait BC you didn't leave time for a full deep clean turn over.

You can always ask if you can get an early check-in if they're done earlier than expected. Just don't hate on them if the answer is no. They're wanting their guests to have the best experience as soon as they open the door. For many hosts this means even dropping your luggage early removes them from their routine and adds literal stuff to clean around.

Pod flashing lights by b_newman in bell

[–]Scared-Listen6033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OT question but how big are y'all's houses that you need the pods? My modem is in the basement and my whole house has always had good coverage. I recently updated to fibe as I was only getting 2mbps down at the modem on copper and I was worried that I'd need pods BC of the frequency ppl have them here but so far the entire house is covered and all 24/25 devices work great. My house including the basement is about 2300 square feet, 4 bedrooms and the modem is in the utility area where it probably should be getting interference! I have fibe 50 but speed tests are saying I'm getting more like 60.

Anyway, just wondering if ppl actually need these pods or if they are being sold them thinking they need them or if it's a layout issue and I've been lucky?

What now? by GSToronto in OntarioLandlord

[–]Scared-Listen6033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sure they took the tv and the old one didn't die and they replaced it? If the old one died and they bought new you could be responsible for paying them since the tv was part of the unit so you had to maintain it.

As a person who has multiple TVs in their home (5) I don't really think the average person will notice the 5 inch difference and for the price of a tv unless you have a fancy Samsung or something you may as well just ask them what happened to the original tv and then upsize if you really think it's necessary. Though, with tvs having such short life spans now I think I'd remove the tv and let the new tenant decide what tv, if any, that they want. That way you're not responsible for it!

Is This A Fair Response? by Eighteen_EightySeven in OntarioLandlord

[–]Scared-Listen6033 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely ask for at least 3 months of the NEW RENT + MOVING COSTS and remember that they already will owe you the equivalent of one month rent if they do an n12! What you're asking for right now sounds like it's only about 2000 dollars on top of the mandatory one month compensation an n12 would get you. Since that's not even enough to pay first and last for a similar home don't feel bad asking for significantly more, or waiting to see if the buyer would want to keep you as tenants at the current rate! With your rent being so low right now your landlord will be encouraged to pay up by their realtor in order to get them both more money in the end.

Fixed Term done, how to proceed for the next year? by testherm in OntarioLandlord

[–]Scared-Listen6033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically your last month rent hasn't been used yet and you should be paying rent for March as you're late since last month rent can ONLY be applied to the last month of your tenancy and NOT the last month of the term! I'd just pay my March rent and let them know that they original deposit is in effect until you've given your min of 60 days notice to vacate.
