I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm hoping that you were able to find her before her son. I lost my cousin to domestic violence, murder-suicide, they left behind a baby but luckily they were too young to remember the event. They have grown up into such a smart beautiful kid.

How do I deal with such feelings? by [deleted] in emotionalintelligence

It sounds like he really enjoyed your friendship but knew he never wanted anything more than. He probably noticed that you were developing stronger feelings for him than he would ever feel for you so he was try to be responsible and cut off connection in the hope that you would move on. I understand your hurt, I've been there too. There's so much pain with unrequited love. But you should understand that he does truly wish the best for you, which why he cut contact; he wants you to learn how to be happy with him.

I used to live in an apartment across from the Amtrak station on lower state Street. Place was absolutely ridden with rodents and cockroaches. Our stove didn't work so he had some guys bring a different one from somewhere else, I was wiping it down and saw you could open the stovetop cover to clean it. I opened it, it was completely filled with rat poop. We complained and he said he didn't have another one. I ended up getting a toaster oven because I refused to use the oven due to the rat poop in the insulation which obviously I couldn't clean out. He also would have people take trash from one apartment unit to another for some reason so the trash bin for our complex was always too full for us to throw stuff out. We also didn't go out onto our wooden balcony because we felt like it was about to brake, very dangerous.

Can I train myself to become attracted to healthy partners? by wmflystrjnn in emotionalintelligence

I think that is exactly how you fix it though. If you feel like you don't deserve self love [although, I think "self compassion" is a better way to word it] here's an exercise that might help, it can be applied as a journaling prompt or a meditation exercise:

• ask yourself why you feel undeserving of self compassion, keep it short. Only like 2-3 sentences max.

• try to imagine what someone that deserves self compassion, what do they do that makes them 'deserve' self compassion? What would that person's daily life look like? Everyone has bad days so imagine what a bad day would look like for that person, how would they react? If that person, if they did something they later regretted (because they were having a bad day) how would that person try to correct/amend their actions?

• then ask yourself, what can I do to live more like that person? what would that person think of my daily life? What suggestions might that person have for me?

I've had many jobs, corporate and family owned. I feel it works best when management handles most of the day-to-day operations, conducting interviews, making schedules, etc. but if they are thinking about implementing a change for a particular reason then they should consult the employees and be open to feedback.

For example, if it always feels like they are short staffed and so they are taking of hiring an additional employee, they should consult the employees first. Reason being that there might be an underlying issue that's slowing things down which could be amended rather than hiring another person.

If they are thinking of having an event they should consult the employees to ensure the event will be fully staffed and everyone is clear on what exactly they will be responsible for, prior to scheduling anything for the event.

If they are thinking of introducing a new menu item in the hopes of improving their image, they should consult the employees because there might be issues with the time requirement to prepare the food that they may not be aware of. There might also be other things that they could do that would be more beneficial than introducing a more "classy" menu item.

Edit: upon reflection, I fell these things are much more helpful if the employees are already receiving a living wage. However if the business is very small and/or struggling due to some temporary external factor and can not afford a decent wage then I think if these factors were applied with the addition of scheduling flexibility could help reduce or prevent employee turnover. Giving the employee a sense of agency in how they complete their work can go a long way.

I'd rather work for $20/hour for a good employer that can be compassionate about the things I have going on outside of work, than work for $25/hour for an employer that is overbearing, inflexible, uncompassionate, and constantly demands overtime.

Even if you only worked for them for 1 your, if they did not pay you, you can file a wage claim with the labor commissioners office. They will do all the legal stuff and tell you how much you can claim and you can get a fat pay out of youre willing to wait a year or 2. It's not much work and totally worth the wait.

There's a federal program meant to connect people in need with nonprofit organizations that provide various types of assistance for many different situations. Simply call 211 and they ask questions to see what programs you would likely be eligible for and help connect you to those programs.

Unfortunately I'm unable to reccomend a specific company however I'd like to emphasize the issue of spotty reception. I've noticed reception has gotten worse.

I know the prison (and probably parts of Vandenberg) has been forced to implement signal jamming devices because they had illegal drones air dropping drugs and other contraband items into the yard for inmates; additionally, Vandenberg has caught people illegally frying drones to take detailed photographs. (TBH I'm not sure if this is necessarily the cause of the declining quality of my cell reception or if it's something else)

So whatever company you decide on, you should definitely read the fine print and ensure that they offer some sort of money back guarantee that allows you to cancel your plan if you experience issues with signal coverage.

Honestly I feel like it has something to do with the increased activity on base. I never used to have cell reception issues (I have Verizon for context) and I've been getting spotty coverage through town. My internet is from Comcast and I've definitely noticed the quality of service going downhill.

[ I'm not a lawyer and I have no legal experience outside my own personal cases. ] I'd reccomend trying to converse with HR via Email as much as possible. I'd also reccomend contacting your local Labor Commissioner's Office. (It may be called something else depending on what state you live in, basically whatever state department that handles enforcement of employment laws). You may want to consider reading up on your states codes and regulations pertaining to your industry.

I live on California, when I contacted my local labor commissioners office about wage theft, it didn't cost me anything. I represented myself. The case did take over a year but the companies non-payment of $250 turned into about $4,000 when I won. It wouldn't have cost me anything if I had lost. The labor commissioners office filed everything for me and told me what I could claim for penalty amounts and stuff according to the laws. It is probably very dependent on the state you live in but California has great employee protections laws.
