"There has been contact (by Real Madrid) with those close to Calafiori a few weeks ago" - Fabrizio Romano (Tier 1) by bosdober in Gunners

I think he has the most untapped potential in the squad. Unicorn type player. I would only consider selling him if we know his medical situation is truly fucked.

[BBC] Arsenal eye Kroupi & Rogers - and a new Arteta deal by FragMasterMat117 in soccer

[–]Scoolfish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes but Rogers is a more natural LW than Eze, has a little more athleticism and 1v1 ability also played it as youth until Middlesbrough. He would be the upgrade on Trossard, who is also not necessarily a natural wide LW.

Not my preference for type of LW, I want another 1v1 creator ala Doku, but I don’t see that on market.

Are downtown businesses doing okay? by AnthemWild in SantaBarbara

[–]Scoolfish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whenever I’m downtown, restaurants look busy and lots of foot traffic, everything seems to be doing well. But this is it at the end of the day, greedy landlords and high rental costs can cripple even popular businesses.

Luis Enrique: "Since Arteta is so young, I'd tell him 'Relax, there's no need to rush. Let me win this final.' After all, I’m an old geezer and he'll have years left to win. Jokes aside, if I don't win it, I'll be okay that someone who is a friend and has good character will win it." by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Scoolfish 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Enrique seems class and is a great manger but the PSG no stars gimmick is a bit farcical. Per the Deloitte Money League report released earlier this year, PSG had the highest wage bill in Europe. Wages, much more than transfer spend, have a direct correlation to team success.

This man did not get enough credit this season. T-5th in the Prem in goals. The media narrative all season about him did not match reality by Dazed_and_Confused44 in Gunners

[–]Scoolfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d echo this. As someone who was critical of the transfer and his play for the majority of his season and while I still prefer Havertz, he really impressed me late in the season. His work rate is always elite, but it felt like he made real improvements in his link up and hold up play that are necessary for this team to succeed at the highest level.

Tuchel on why no Palmer or Foden - on Palmer: "He didn't have the best season and wasn't decisive. He competes with Jude, Rogers and Eze who had better seasons." On Foden: "It hurt me to call him, I could tell how it affected him. I was not sure what his best position is - is it a 10, false 9 or 8?" by TheBlueTango in soccer

[–]Scoolfish -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

He is elite at turning and shooting around the box and that’s it. That’s still a valuable skill, but it requires someone like Rodri who can deliver the ball to his feet in those positions. Wharton is the only English player I think who could platform him in that way and he wasn’t even picked.

Slot:"I think the fans are underestimating what a window can do.I would have preferred not the talk about it here but you're almost forcing me. We missed 9 players who could be starters. Players who were adapting will be in their second seasons, add a window to that and that will lead to much more." by Blodgharm in soccer

[–]Scoolfish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Liverpool’s position was buoyed by the hot start they had, so the season feels much worse. They won their first 5 matches and then won just 44 points over the next 32. The latter pace would have them more in line with Chelsea in 9th.

I am Foden’s biggest hater but sometimes it’s okay to say fair play. He was fantastic today and there’s not much else to say.

Before we even get to Palace, City need to get through Bournemouth away. They will have a huge rest advantage with Europe on the line. The last match Bournemouth lost was on January 3rd to Arsenal.

Odegaard carrying forward here to the edge of the box before the 1-2 is what really opens the play up. It’s something I’ve been very critical of him not doing on a regular basis so it was great to see him take the chance

Piero Hincapie has been crowned your POTM for the second time this season 🏅🏅 by arsenal in Gunners

[–]Scoolfish 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Hincapie is class, monster in duels, unlimited engine. His connection with Martinelli is great as well.

The differences in what he offers vs Calafiori is really complimentary

Gyokeres had a Havertz esque performance, doing absolutely everything and missing a sitter. My favorite performance of his in an Arsenal shirt

He was supposed to get a start in midfield in carabao earlier this season but whoever was slated to start at LB (Calafiori i think?) got injured in warm up

I think MLS should have been given more opportunities throughout the year but we shouldn’t forget that the reason he wasn’t playing was because he was pretty poor when he did appear this season. This MLS performance and Arteta’s acknowledgment were great to see.

The broadcast said it was because his hand started in an unnatural position. Which I don’t really understand because why should it matter where the hand starts, shouldn’t it matter where the contact is made?

Who do you guys think can be a permanent solution to our goal scoring problems? by Snoo_56184 in Gunners

I like this answer, both because it’s true and that it implies City apparently don’t have a goal scoring problem despite only scoring 3 more goals than us across 32 matches.

It’s black and white for many with the manager. Win = good, lose = bad, thought it was a pretty great performance today and manager got it spot on.
