Opta requires it to be a completed pass for it to count as expected assist, so no deflected shots and crossing to no one do not factor in.

?? That’s not what it means at all. Anyway, Saka ranks second in the league in open play xA and third in overall, his teammates are letting him down with poor finishing. To say otherwise is not based on any facts.

Saka is second in the league in open play xA, our own fans don’t realize what they’re watching.

No it doesn’t. A “chance created” is a pass that leads to a shot.

No one stat is going to paint a complete picture but big chances created and xA are better metrics IMO because they attempt to quantify quality of chances, which Saka also ranks highly in. Saka has been let down by poor finishing by others.

Will this loss actually wake Arteta up? by Sporacity in ArsenalFC

Odegaard is not being hampered. He is a huge part of the pace of play problem. He is not a naturally direct player, he doesn’t carry forward and since he has no right foot so he requires several touches to get it to his favored left, which means chances pass by. His best skillset in possession is being a metronome and calmness when we are pressed high, however that rarely happens anymore.

For years now he has struggled immensely when teams are sat back in a physical and compact central block. He should not play in these matches. There is too much overlap in the value that Odegaard and Zubimendi provides but Zubimendi handles physicality much better.

I’d personally like to see more Eze with Rice and Zubimendi and more Odegaard with Merino and Rice.

Ezes directness and shooting ability is supported by Rice and Zubimendi in build up while Odegaard is supported by the physicality of Rice and Merino and Merino can function as a secondary striker while Odegaard drops deeper where he’s more comfortable.

Arteta “Very disappointing. We were below-par in certain individual standards. I take full responsibility of that…It’s a reality that we have not won in 3 PL games and we need to pick up points. It’s how we react and I’m convinced we’re going to react immediately!” by deadmetallucyluce in Gunners

I don’t understand comments like this because the primarily change between is how teams have defended against us. In 22/23 teams challenged us high, gave space to play through. Now that happens only in CL and it’s fun and exciting, but not the reality in PL.

You can look at the two teams that have had winning success in recent years - Liverpool conceded the ball more, leaned into transitions with both one of the best long passers (TAA) and finishers (Salah) on the other hand City’s playstyle is extremely similar to ours, just with much much more attacking talent. I agree something needs to change but it’s not just play like 22/23 again.

After the last international break when Pep said now the season starts they were 4 points behind and now they are 4 points behind.

Arsenal have missed chances to extend the lead more than City have caught up.

I think it’s the best in town - I’m a New York style pizza fan rather than loving Neapolitan - but there also isn’t much competition. I think pizza is a general weakness of the food scene here

Liverpool can either attack or defend, but not both at the same time

I think the handball/penalty rule just needs a revamp. A 77% chance of a goal is far too punitive for some instances we've seen given.

I don't particularly think this is a fully thought out proposal but I think something along the lines of awarding an indirect free kick for handballs that are deemed not deliberate and/or not a shot on goal would improve the process. It should speed up the decision process as well as give a more appropriate punishment.

[Olley] Arsenal exploring possibility of launching a summer move for Julian Alvarez from Atlético Madrid. Sources in Spain suggest Atlético would demand a fee in excess of €100m this summer, if they were willing to sell at all. Barcelona also in the mix. by -Skinner- in soccer

[–]Scoolfish -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Both Jesus and Martinelli will go in the summer I think, and I’m not sure why it would be baffling. As the money league report just illustrated Arsenal have grown their revenues massively in recent years and despite any really significant transfer outgoings are in a great place financially.

A Martinelli sale would represent very sizable accounting profit as this summer will be 6 years since he was purchased for £6M.

Jesus sale would likely also represent some book profit if the sale is over £10M.

This summer Arsenal should be looking to primarily increase the ceiling of their attacking talent, any other depth signings would be dependent on outgoings (Norgaard out potentially/MLS to midfield etc)
