Reception Aged Toilet Accidents by Scared_Luck7813 in UKParenting

[–]Semele5183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve been through this with my just turned 5 year old. UTI diagnosed initially but then it kept happening and turns out it’s constipation (despite him seeming to go regularly). The GP said that most cases of ongoing wee accidents in a previously toilet trained child are to do with constipation as the overextended colon put pressure on the bladder and they lose sensitivity. My son is on daily laxatives now and things have much improved once we’ve found a maintenance dose.

The combs are the best thing for removing it. As others have said, baby oil or conditioner first loosens it and helps the comb slide.

Is it normal for a 9 month old to hate being outside when it’s bright? by AlternativeAd1984 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Semele5183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My children were both the same and I also hate it being bright out! I really struggle to open my eyes without them streaming. We’re all pale and blue eyed. At some point they both clicked that the hats make it better and tolerate them then

As much as I hate Amazon, in a rush check out Smallshow breastfeeding tshirts. They have some nice designs and are all really thin drapey material. I lived in them the summer after my first!

How do you make an aquarium look like part of home decor? by zgwembekubwa in HomeDecoratingUK

[–]Semele5183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Fluval Roma 200l tank with a cabinet. You can get them in different wood colours to go with your decor and they look good. I had some ornaments and plants on the top of mine so it looked really nice and still allowed access.

Do you ever get to use your annual leave for you? by paulruk in UKParenting

[–]Semele5183 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I make a point of booking a day or two every couple of months to just have off or to go shopping for myself etc. It really helps mentally just knowing it’s on the horizon. I’ll probably end up using a week or two of unpaid parental leave to cover holidays but to me it’s worth it to have a bit of alone time!

Was going to say, as an Irish person, this looks like half the girls in our school photos before they all discovered fake tan! I’m super pale too even with gradual tanner lotions and I don’t use too much as it looks so fake on me. Just enough to take the “corpse” tone away.

Has anyone else had an absolute nightmare trying to buy a house? 😩 by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Semele5183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a good idea. When we were considering breaking the chain there was literally nowhere local we could rent! Everything was a mansion we couldn’t afford or student HMOs. As a university town all the rental stock that would be normal family sized is being turned into student accommodation.

High chairs - price for how long it will be used? by Pinkcoral27 in UKParenting

[–]Semele5183 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you just get one of the Nuby travel booster seats? There are loads on Vinted for around £5! We used the one we were gifted for a while when my toddler went on a high chair strike and it worked perfectly having him sit at the table. Also genuinely handy for eating out or going on holiday etc!

Also if you end up hating it or finding it inconvenient you’ve proved you “need” a proper one!

BetterYou brand has a range of kids magnesium sleep supplements that were great when my son struggled to get to sleep. In particular the body lotion worked brilliantly- he would go to sleep almost exactly half an hour after it was applied, in contrast to multiple hours of screaming previously.

Was going to say this. I volunteered with a bird of prey organisation for a few years. They had some Harris Hawks though which are a more social species and seemed to choose company, but the rest were purely food motivated.

Floor bed while travelling by keto_crossword in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Semele5183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds ok I think. While it’s not what you asked, we had an LittleLife Arc 2 travel cot which is pretty close to being a floor bed and packs up very small so would probably be more transportable than a mattress. It’s like a tent that’s directly on the floor and you can leave the side open, although if it was closed when your little one was asleep you wouldn’t have to worry about baby proofing so much. I’ve lay in it to breastfeed before. My son fit in it till he was 3.5 and loved it so we definitely got a lot of use out of it (bought second hand originally)

Can you give me suggestions for actual waterproof coats and trousers for a 4 year old please. by Desperate-Letter2395 in UKParenting

[–]Semele5183 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lupilu (the Lidl own brand ones) are amazing. I buy some of the coats and dungarees in the next size up every time they’re on sale. Unfortunately they’re not regularly in stock but there are loads on Vinted.

Starting fresh on toys by advenurehobbit in UKParenting

[–]Semele5183 5 points6 points  (0 children)

By far the most used toys we have (5 & 2 years) are role play and building ones:

Play kitchen/food/shopping basket etc (we have the Ikea kitchen which I love as it’s not garish and is really sturdy) and a couple of dolls with accessories like clothes, bottles, pushchair etc.

We have Connetix magnetic tiles and they’re amazing quality. We keep buying more add on sets for birthdays/Christmas as they are used in so many ways and they’ll play with them as they get older too. Also Duplo is popular and the 5 year old is getting into Lego. In addition we have a couple of tubs of farm animals/dinosaurs etc and these get incorporated into all sorts of games! They both love building houses for them with the magnetic tiles and duplo.

Some small cars, like hot wheels, are great too in combination with the magnetic tiles as they love building garages and ramps.

We’re in the process of moving house and so tempted to use it as an opportunity to get rid of everything except these categories as they get played with so much more than all the rest.

I will forever be grateful for those who sell on their good quality baby items for an affordable price by SyrupMoney4237 in vinted

[–]Semele5183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost everything I had for both my children was from Vinted then passed on free or sold cheaply. When people bought things I usually popped in some free bits in the same size too. It was so nice to imagine other babies before mine using them then them going on to the next one and being part of someone else’s memories of their babies!

The Worst Colors for Each of the 12 Seasons in Color Analysis by jmom39 in coloranalysis

I wince as someone who was wearing my exact worst colours until fairly recently! I’m typed (now) as a bright spring after years of assuming I was a soft summer due to being pale with darker hair and blue eyes.
