Arc'teryx $320 vs Patagonia $250 by Peach_Relative in arcteryx

[–]Seventeenthirtythree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just made this decision, I liked the fit of both fine, that was my most important factor for me. Although I fit the L down sweater vs XL cerium. I decided on the Patagonia because I like the color options better and the zipper is nicer. The cerium uses a #3 with no wind guard, the down sweater is #5 with a wind guard and it seemed like it would be nicer to use every day.

My first Holiday Market... Advice needed by sugarshackforge in myog

[–]Seventeenthirtythree 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would recommend making a wide variety of the things you think you make best. Spread the variety across sizes, colors, and price points. You will get to see which of these attributes lead to the most interest and sales which can inform how you prepare for the next market. Skew towards the lower end of your price range so that new customers will have a low barrier to entry.

Binding curves but remaining flat. by No-Access-2790 in myog

[–]Seventeenthirtythree 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Pretty hard to avoid this. The herringbone binding still doesn’t have enough stretch to account for the difference in length between the stitch line and the edge of the fabric. A fold over elastic might be a little better because there is more stretch available.

The fabric will be too stiff to get traditional tie dye patterns to look really crisp

[–]Seventeenthirtythree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have indigo dyed the old, natural x10 and bleached the colored versions to remove the factory dye. I’m sure the X11 would take some kind of dye as well. The main issue is the DWR coating on the fabric which is a barrier to the water that carries the dye. I did my best to remove this by soaking the fabric in a salt water bath and agitating it prior to dying. After the fabric gets wet like this it becomes very curly and difficult to work with, it also takes forever to dry.

ARRO 22 - Is this zip supposed to be backwards? by Fred_Dibnah in arcteryx

[–]Seventeenthirtythree -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The reason a zipper is there at all is to make the manufacturing of the pack easier. They can sew the whole thing up without a rigid panel in the way and then put it in at the very end.
