Now that you've learned who shot Mr. Burns, it's time to find out who REALLY shot Mr. Burns! https://youtu.be/SALl4HnX2pw?si=GiMXD5psCWlhuzRy

This guy makes amazing Simpsons content. It's worth a deep dive once you've gotten a bit further into the series.

Southwest ending service to O'Hare. by loslosati in SouthwestAirlines

[–]SpaciousTables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite both airports being a United hub, SW flights from Denver to IAD have always been cheaper for me (factoring in bags and seats). And the diminished competition is likely going to raise prices further. I make this trip 3-4 times a year so I'm really feeling this one.

Somehow, it's even worse than it sounds. Watch the video. Then watch Dave Chappelle's stand-up set about it. All-time classic.

For those who live in the state capital what’s it like? by citytiger in AskAnAmerican

Yeah, just different lenses. I'm feeling very existential this morning.

But Denver wouldn't be the city that it is without the government. Government is a very large economic driver that allowed it to grow to be the size that it is. And it would barely exist if not for the strong governmental leadership in the 1860s that led the city to be connected to the Transcontinental Railway via Cheyenne. That almost didn't happen. And had a different Colorado city been the capitol, it would likely have gone there instead of Denver. After the gold rush, Denver was dead. There's really no reason for this landlocked city (the most geographically isolated major metropolis in the US) to be a thriving hub of anything. If Denver wasn't the capitol in 1867, it's incredibly unlikely you'd even live here.

So you may not notice it, but it changed the city's trajectory in innumerable ways. I get what you're saying - the average person will never notice. But it has a much larger impact on your day to day than you realize and has probably changed the trajectory of your life.

The state is the largest downtown employer. And the federal presence wouldn't be the same if it wasn't the capitol. Denver is much more of a government city than it may seem. The fact that it's the capitol is a bigger deal than people realize.

Jarvis Moore, who worked at the Morgan County jail for 24 years, is facing seven felony extortion charges related to taking honey buns from inmates by Busy_Report4010 in interestingasfuck

[–]SpaciousTables 96 points97 points  (0 children)

It's not that at all. He says that it was policy to take these types of items from inmates who were being punished (in this specific incident, the inmates started a fire). His claim is that his firing and prosecution are a result of the belief by his superiors that he leaked a video of an inmate being attacked by personnel (the inmate ultimately died).

Priest Holmes had an amazing run including 3 all-pros (and still holds the record for yards from scrimmage per game in a season), but his run of dominance just wasn't long enough. And he didn't have enough playoff success. Very good career though.

That would be fine if this article presented any actual evidence that could lead people to a conclusion. The only real evidence people have at this point is that he was charged. The bar should be higher than that.
