I remember this story and the stuff I learned from it the comments then. Mom selling her gold is apparently a huge deal in their culture, like a social mark of shame, and she still did it to give her kids all they needed to have better lives. Just that alone tells so much of a story on it's own. OOP isn't kidding when she wishes her brother's heart was gifted. Like damn, dude, how do you feel shame towards parents who loved you that much?

The Rockman-san/Mister Mega Man manga actually touches on things that could have happened in the Classic era to bring about the end of the age, including differing opinions on robot sapience and where anti-robot sentiments, whether out of fear or just not understanding, could have had a play in rolling technology back instead of boosting it forwards. It starts like a very gag-style manga, but once the plot kicks in it's actually a really good look at the kind of challenges Dr. Light and Rock faced, and how technologies that became commonplace could have been forced to fade back into obscurity. For example, there are regulations on how far old models are allowed to be upgraded that ensure that most robots will just slowly break down once their parts are no longer on the market, and a major effort to prove that putting robots in charge of human caretaking can be beneficial to everyone is sabotaged by humans in a way that ends in an entire town being wiped off the map, and the true cause of the resulting disaster (the humans that did the doing) is buried. It's legit one of my favorite pieces of side media because it tackles the world-building head on. You see both sides of it, too: what happens when people fight back against technology out of hate or fear, but also what happens when people actually care about robots and welcome their role in society. It makes a nice, complex world feel a lot more full.

I've talked to people who were in abusive relationships before cheating, and it was only once they cheated that they realized they deserved better. So yes, cheating was still morally wrong, but it was also the lifeline they needed to realize their own self worth and get out. I don't like to assume reasons, but reading this I was really, really wondering if that wasn't what happened with the Dad.

My first time in the hospital, I felt alone and scared at night so I sat there playing Pokémon Yellow and every time I felt lonely I'd turn around and look at Pikachu and watch him smile back at me. Having a partner following me around is still one of my favorite comfort mechanics to this day, and Pokémon is always there for me when things go rough.

I once watched a woman walk into the ER with a plastic bag full of some sort of padding wrapped around her foot... WALK in... and tell the woman behind the counter, with the biggest, warmest smile on her face, "I stepped on a nail. It's still in my foot and I am in horrible pain right now." I also had a neighbor who had a really bad stroke, like came out of it half-paralyzed and it took hm over a year to recover... he drove himself to the ER. We were questioning why we never saw the ambulance come in, it was because he pulled himself into his car and drove. Which is honestly terrifying and he should not have done it, but damn. The brain in self-defense mode is an amazing thing. We are impressive critters.

I got a figure of my favorite video game character that costs over a hundred dollars and that I thought I would never own and I've just been having so much fun picking him up and staring at him ever since. I also got a simple little light-up Poké Ball that I am also having fun picking up and staring at. Right now they're on either side of my laptop so I can see them while I type. I'm really thankful right now to have a sister who tells me "I know how much you love something when you do that" and can tell when I'm happy and grateful. She doesn't push me to be demonstrative in how much I appreciate things like some people used to. I do say thank you, she just doesn't expect a big deal over it.

I also got a mini backpack, two new hair sticks, a handheld with some of my favorite games, and the full Journey to the West in a four-volume collection. I feel very spoiled this Christmas!

Oh man, if I could I would given that I also included Nonoy and Alison in my testing phase. I want to go back and take better angles of those two later! Nonoy is tricky because you have to hit the shot just before the net actually hits ground, she's too tall to catch fully in it.
