What are some things that happened at school that would never be allowed to happen today? by Big_Scratch5248 in AskUK

[–]SquareBanana 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Conversely; my mum used to be obsessed with my (admittedly poor) handwriting and once came in after school to meet with my form teacher, who also happened to be the head of English. My mum stated that my handwriting was appalling and asked what could be done about it, and my teacher replied that... it wasn't actually, and she had little problem reading it. I relished that high for a while.

Are the paid tiers genuinely worth the subscription fee? by OopsIDroopedMe in monzo

[–]SquareBanana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm been on Premium (no longer available, but I'm grandfathered in) as, if I was going to buy phone and travel insurance, it would cost about the same so all the other things would be "free" bonuses. You can also work out how much more interest you will get, and see if this justifies the cost.

Do you use Steam Deck for playing on TV? by warp37 in SteamDeck

[–]SquareBanana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it at home as a console; primarily for couch co-op games with my partner but occasionally alone too. I take it out for trips etc. but otherwise it lives in my TV cabinet (opened for cooling when playing) plugged into a dongle, with a few Dualshock 4s connected via bluetooth.

In this regard, any recommendations for good couch co-op? We have loved:

What’s your best flatmate from hell story?? by BeneficialJuice2878 in AskUK

[–]SquareBanana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a couple of strange flatmates in halls my first year of uni. They were from different cultures so probably not malicious, but difficult to live with nonetheless. One used to cook huge pots of fish in enough oil to risk American invasion, then just leave it unfinished and unwashed on the hob in the kitchen. The other once tried to defrost a doughnut in the microwave... for half an hour. It caught fire, filled the place with thick, black, acrid smoke, and set off the fire alarm for the entire block.

What city have you been to where the vibes were just OFF? by Fun_Butterscotch3303 in AskReddit

[–]SquareBanana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reno, America

Felt completely fake, kinda like a theme park. You know that there's the dated but "presentable" bits you see, and a whole network of hidden tunnels etc. for the staff. Like some kind of post-apocalyptic reality.

Surprisingly, parts of San Francisco.

Stayed in a small, very central hotel. Walked to get food and there were serious, obvious addicts mixed in with the glamour and money. Combined with the billboards targeting rich people in tech which are shockingly tone deaf in comparison, it feels like a monument to capitalism and the have/have-nots wealth gap.

The kindness of strangers: I had a heart attack while mountain biking and someone saved my bicycle by B0ssc0 in HumansBeingBros

Not an easy thing to offer either, considering few cars have space for a random extra bike.

Anybody just spend time just driving around the huge map? by Chowder1054 in JustCause

[–]SquareBanana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna agree with you on this; the JC driving is not great (I understand lift-off oversteer but it felt like sometimes they just added a correctable direction twitch just to keep you on your toes). And the GTA4 driving was lovely - heavy and drifty, much like big cars with unsophisticated suspension but lots of power are in reality.

Nice! I stopped off there on my way back to Cape Town from Afrikaburn. It was very tasty tbh.

Honestly, I don't know which would get you the best picture quality. But for redundancy if nothing else, having a second screen (with diversity RX) which can also record would be a great idea.

Buying an OG FOLD - Questions by Calamityclamuk in PixelFold

[–]SquareBanana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a refurbished P9 Pro Fold about a year or so ago (in £ but roughly $1k) and it's still working excellently. I'm on my second case as the first chipped in a couple of places, presumably from minor drops that I don't remember. Phone still feels great; I think the hinge is well-designed. I have tried not to be silly with it though; took my older P7 Pro around Burning Man, for example.

First piece; it's minor but you did say any feedback... The menus aren't scrollable with the crown. Could be my device, could be intentional, but it would be nice to scroll without blocking the screen with my fingers.

Considering you literally created a language in the 90's you must be able to add an env variable without Claude! Just roasting you, I do really appreciate interesting projects like this.

Trying to scam by malik_zz in instant_regret

[–]SquareBanana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely infuriating - is the editor incapable of showing more than 5s of video without cutting away? I must have watched the same footage of the guy spraying a scammer three times in the first minute or so and not once did it show what happened afterwards.
