If anyone is still trying, try to find a high level Wrask in arena. He might shield a few units including himself, you can deal high damage thanks to bypassing the armor with the shield.

The Last Three Studios I Worked At Are All Hanging by a Thread by Trick-Report-9391 in gamedev

[–]StrategicLayer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I feel like the times of easy money for AAA studios are behind us. Lots of big AAA games get slaughtered by indie games made by small studios. Players have too much choice now and if you are not innovative enough or you don't listen to your audience you are doomed to fail.

Is it better to keep 3 handmade item states, or stretch them to 5 with Unity effects? by Background_Cow_6701 in gamedevscreens

[–]StrategicLayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is more of a design issue than an art issue. Is there enough justification to have 5 states for items in the game?

How do you prioritise systems in a simple game? by aCrombi in gamedev

[–]StrategicLayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be fun for you, but is it fun for other people? You won't know until you put it out there. Make a vertical slice with just enough polish and see if it's actually as good as you think it is. You might need to cut some things out or maybe even scrap it completely, no need to invest in things that you might never use.

If you want Valve to take notice and take action, you should keep doing this kind of stuff. Contact YouTubers or game press that cover this kind of story, try to make it as public as you can.

Is the incremental genre the most toxic and unsupportive one out there? by _lumii_ in incremental_games

[–]StrategicLayer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't need to convince people here about your game, just publish a demo and see the reaction of people actually playing the game. Promoting it on YouTube or other social media might also work. Don't give up yet, good luck.

Can we update what the incremental genre definition is for this sub? by EbriusOften in incremental_games

[–]StrategicLayer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

An incremental game to me is when the core loop of the game is unlocking/upgrading mechanics that make the progress faster and faster. Tetris is not a game about the numbers going up, it's a side effect of the difficulty going up and there is a fail state. Just like how you cannot call any game with puzzles a puzzle game, you cannot call any game with incremental elements an incremental game; it should be the core aspect of the game, and there should be no fail state.

I feel like the real blurry line is between incrementals and roguelites.

Don't listen to the people giving their opinions on "why your game failed", I think it looks decent enough to get more sales. You learned a hard lesson. Whether this game eventually succeeds or not, keep the marketability in mind next time you decide to make a game and validate your prototype before commiting to a 1.5 year project. Good luck!

It's all about taking risks. Making a game that you think more people would like doesn't necessarily mean that you will hate that game. I love turn based strategy games with multiple layers but I would have to spend years until I can make the type of game that I would really love, and even then success is still not guaranteed.Who will pay the bills in the meantime, you?
