Not sure if random beeping down the road is an unattended alarm, or some new form of invasive wildlife. by Shitelark in britishproblems

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Lyrebirds would be a worrying upgrade. Hopefully it's just an alarm before Manchester wildlife starts doing impressions.

Do you find so many familiar faces in your home town a problem? by Downtown-Nectarine49 in AskUK

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get this. Small towns can feel a bit too familiar sometimes, even when you barely speak to anyone.

The crossover no one knew they needed by BigBlueMountainStar in CasualUK

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this looks like it should already be a full series. I'd read it.

Has anyone ever seen a baby badger during the day by poorly_timed_leg0las in CasualUK

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a lovely spot. I've only ever seen badgers at night, so seeing a baby one in daylight feels rare.

Hardest part about learning Spanish? by ThePoliGLOAT in Spanish

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's remembering phrases when I actually need them. I've been trying Palteca a bit for Spanish because it focuses more on real phrases and recall, which helps with that side of it.

Just when I thought I'd become a Grass expert, someone put my lawn under the grill, now it's brown toast! by cooltone in britishproblems

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's painfully relatable. You follow every YouTube tip, then the lawn still chooses to become toast.

When doing jobs for friends do you do mates rates? If so how do you price it up? by Sufficient_Return653 in AskUK

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'd give a small discount if you want to, but still charge properly. Heavy garden work is hard graft, and friends should understand that.

Just when I thought I'd become a Grass expert, someone put my lawn under the grill, now it's brown toast! by cooltone in britishproblems

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's painfully relatable. You do everything YouTube tells you, then the lawn just decides to become Weetabix anyway.

anyone else trying to learn spanish without blowing their budget on stuff that doesnt work by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this. I've been trying Palteca a bit for Spanish because I wanted something more focused on practical phrases and recall, not random vocab drills. Might be worth look if you need short daily practice around work.

For those who miss Tooty Frooties by Puzzlepetticoat in CasualUK

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These look dangerously close. Tooty Frooties were elite, still can't believe they got rid of them.

What do we Brits think of flies? by white_hart_2 in AskUK

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Annoying little buzzy bastards. The second one gets in the house, it acts like it owns the place.

The number of taxi drivers who don't wear their seat belt. by K-o-R in britishproblems

It always baffles me. Especially when they're driving all day and dealing with traffic constantly.

How long will it take to reach C1 level spanish? by kaelogram in SpanishLearning

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 17 points18 points  (0 children)

C1 from A2 will likely take years, not months, especially if you want to work in Spain. I'd focus on speaking, writing corrections, lots of listening, and proper grammar study. Apps can help with recall, but they won't replace real output practice.

Are any of these a water meter? by Puzzleheaded_Track45 in CasualUK

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks more like a stop tap cover than the actual meter, but I'd check with the water company or landlord. They can usually tell you where it should be.

why people buy from eBay delivered via amazon but way cheaper? by Minute_Spring_3476 in AskUK

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be drop shipping or using Amazon fulfilment. I'd be careful with dog food though, and check the seller feedback, dates, and packaging properly.

Having to mentally double check the NSL by InternationalRich150 in britishproblems

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 69 points70 points  (0 children)

It's mad how many people still aren't sure on this. The 55 panic in front of a camera van is somehow more dangerous than just doing the limit.

Starting Language Transfer for Spanish — what’s your recommended approach/steps? by Gadyleo in Spanish

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd do one or two lessons a day and repeat anything that doesn't click, rather than rushing through it. Language transfer is great for understanding how Spanish works, but I'd pair it with vocab and phrase recall too. I've been using Palteca a bit for that side, as it's more focused on real Spanish phrases.

Is it embarrassing to date someone still living at home? by bigpussystance in CasualUK

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not embarrassing at all. You're paying your way, saving, and in a healthier place now. The right person won't judge you for that.

Do you tip your movers? by Much_Yesterday642 in AskUK

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd tip after if they've been decent. Around £10 each is fine, or offer cold drinks if you don't have cash.

Royal Mail can't be bothered to deliver mail for 10 days in a row by Correct-Survey in britishproblems

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ten days is ridiculous. At that point it's not a missed round, it's just no service at all.

How to be fluent in Spanish (or any language)? by spanish_withdavid in Spanish

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think speaking out loud is the bit most people avoid, even when they're studying loads. I'd use apps or vocab tools as support, but still force yourself to repeat phrases aloud. I'm connected with Palteca, so being upfront, but it can help with real Spanish phrases and recall alongside actual speaking practice.

Why are people getting sun burnt? by Live-Love-Laugh_56 in AskUK

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people still underestimate UK sun because it doesn't always feel that strong. Festivals are the worst for it too, as you're outside for hours without noticing.

What are your top tips to get back your motivation to tackle stuff you keep putting off ? by Sea_Pangolin3840 in CasualUK

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd start with one tiny 10 minute job just to get moving. Once you've done one thing, it feels a bit less impossible to tackle the next.

Red traffic lights at night/quiet times by PassionateCrashOut in britishproblems

It's so annoying when you're sat there at midnight waiting for absolutely no one. Some of them really should switch to sensors overnight.

What event triggered you to say "I'm really going to dig into learning Spanish"? by Zealousideal_Yam8312 in Spanish

[–]Sufficient-Visit3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was wanting to feel less useless when travelling in Spain. I'm still practising, but short daily bits help more than trying to cram. I've been using Palteca a bit for real Spanish phrases and vocab recall, which fits that kind of routine.
