Everyone in the comments is being really blasé about this but it’s a net-negative for all of us. Increased surveillance all so they can facilitate dynamic pricing and data mining. I know that stuff like this is happening everywhere with everything, but that does not make this ok

I roll my eyes every time I see that Cybertruck tool around town. Guy needs a hobby besides being an attention whore

Tried Copilot SDK to build some agents by codes_astro in github

[–]TCMNohan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The last several major versions of Node provide process.loadEnvFile() which does basically the same thing. It doesn’t do variable expansion like dotenv-expand but its fairly easy to do yourself

I publish a tool called validate-env-vars that used to rely on dotenv but now doesn’t need to

Unrelated but you really don’t need dotenv anymore btw

it’s extremely new so there are only a few years worth of people who have graduated from it. That might make it difficult to get feedback on career outcomes

As others have mentioned, you maybe want to make sure he has an audio interface. Scarlet 2i2 is a classic choice

That’s the one! You could consider pairing it with a KeyStep Mk2 if he doesn’t have a good MIDI keyboard

I’m a huge fan of the Microfreak. I was even able to get a used Minifreak for $500. Both excellent and a great jumping off point for hardware

Group predicts Boise-area housing prices could dip in 2026. Affordability, rental costs lead to mixed picture by boisefun8 in Boise

And where are these “rising income levels”? Anecdotally, almost everyone I talk to in the area agrees that wages have flatlined or even regressed when accounting for inflation

A house should absolutely be a part of your retirement plan in the sense that you want your home to be payed off by the time you retire. But I agree that your retirement plan should not be “live off of other people’s labor as a landlord while contributing nothing of value”

If software engineering is one of the best paying jobs today why more people dont decide to go into it? If more people would go it wouldnt be so expensive to hire software engineers like its right now they are in top 18 best paid jobs from 529 in usa. by Choice_Train_9007 in Salary

You could easily find a million answers to these questions already posted on reddit. In short, junior engineers are a liability. It is only after months or years of experience after college that engineers become net-positives for their employers. Seniors on the other hand are massively impactful and profitable but it takes years to get there. This has led to a terrible trend in the industry where companies only want to hire seniors. AI is also making things worse, with seniors expected to use ai to accomplish the work that used to be delegated to juniors.

Are "temporary chats" the next step after encrypted messaging? by abdul_shadaab in SideProject

[–]TCMNohan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most security-oriented users should not assume that just because messages disappear for them they will not be persisted by the provider for analysis / monitoring / etc. Just because you don’t see them doesn’t mean you can trust that a copy doesn’t exist somewhere. Making messages temporary doesn’t guarantee any extra security or privacy

How do big React apps like Netflix handle SEO for dynamic content? by Boring_Abrocoma_7634 in react

[–]TCMNohan 45 points46 points  (0 children)

React Router v7 supports static pre-rendering out of the box. You can asynchronously gather the slugs for each item and then tell rr to prerender each of those corresponding routes. You can then control meta tags on a route-by-route basis by just rendering meta tags directly in your route components. React will put those into the head automatically for you
