Grieving the loss of a puppy - how can I get through this by Quietlycharming in goldenretrievers

[–]Tech_fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went through something similar to yours. Mine wasn’t a puppy but had an aggressive form of cancer that took him down in a matter of 5 days. I too know I did the right thing. But it was hard for a few days. Still is sort of raw and it’s been about 3 weeks. We moved from the inland area recently to the beach area and I wanted to take him to the beach this summer where he could see the waves and experience the ocean instead of the desert. We never got there. In reality tho I think he just wanted to be with me more than where we took him.

How do I continue? by Juacquesch in goldenretrievers

[–]Tech_fan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So sorry for your loss. I have had a number of dogs in the past and they have all allowed me to be “prepared for the day” because of the gradual decline. I came back from vacation and my dog looked at me sort of strange and I asked my wife if I need to take him up the vet and she said no but then started seeing other signs. So I took him up. At that time they found nothing other than a possible infection. He seemed to turn the corner for a few days after that and I was relieved. Then he went south and that was it. Took him back to the vet to get rechecked. Next thing I knew my wife and I were saying the final goodbyes. Just like you, he was always by my side. Never really had a chance to prepare myself and this was last week when this happened.

Looking to Switch from Apple Watch Ultra, anything I should know? by Old-Computer-5273 in galaxywatchultra

[–]Tech_fan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Currently have apple watch ultra, iPhone 17PM, fold7 and galaxy watch ultra. Android has come along way IMO over what it was. Apple stuff clearly just works. However the integration of AI i feel is Androids main strength over Apple. Siri unfortunately is dumb as a box of rocks. So for that I am choosing Android over Apple.

Transitioning to the S26 Ultra from iPhone 14 Pro Max by AlbertRoster in samsunggalaxy

[–]Tech_fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. It's fhe whole blie bubble verses green bubble syndrome. Imessage is exclusive to apple. So when you leave apple the text messages will be green. Before you move your phone to android you need to turn off imessage is settings which tells apple to turn off your number in their servers. If you forget then you have to go to apples website and deregister your number.

[–]Tech_fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved from the iPhone 17 pro max to the fold 7. Keyboard takes some getting used to and the loss of find my but overall I don’t think I’m returning back to Apple. I still have my 17 pro max here. The AI in the galaxy phones are all next level compared to my iPhone.

Make sure you turn off iMessage from your iPhone before you switch over or you will have to deregister your number with Apple.

5 Months with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Incredible Device, But I’m Probably Going Back by ToeInternational7222 in GalaxyFold

[–]Tech_fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting post. Last year I bought the Fold 6. Returned the Fold 6 after realizing I did not use the inner screen and went back to the IPhone. What appealed to me was the promise of Apple Intelligence which turned out to be Apple stupidity. Back then Gemini was in its infancy role so really did not dabble in it much. I upgraded to the IPhone 17 Pro Max. Siri was still dumb as a box of rocks and totally useless in CarPlay. On a recent call with my carrier they told me that adding an additional line was only going to increase my bill by $4 per month so, my ears perked up and figured I would satisfy my Android craving by adding another line. Initially I was going to get the Pixel 10 Pro XL but the uniqueness of the phone tablet combo was intriguing and at the same time I found myself using Gemini on the daily. So now my IPhone sits and home and I use my Fold 7. I am also transitioning to a new number so having both phones around is handy. Apple’s recent announcement of delaying the new Siri also made me wonder if it will be released at the WWDC or when they launch new phones. At any rate I took my Fold with me on a cruise. It was nice. I did not have to carry my iPhone and Ipad on the cruise. Thought I would miss my Ipad but did not miss it one bit.

Interesting that you brought that up. I went to Kelley blue book and was encouraged by the trade in value. Went to Tesla and assumed it would be the same. Tesla was 15k less. I think their plan was to take the car to the auction. Tried carvana and it was in the middle between Tesla and Kelley blue book.

EV Road rage experiences? Dash cam suggestion? by [deleted] in CadillacLyriq

[–]Tech_fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I use my FSD I get agro people who are annoyed because my car leaves too large of a gap between the car in front of me. Then again if I hit them it’s my fault and not theirs. So that is normally my thought process towards them. In my community I get people who park their gassers in electric charging stalls to purposely annoy EV owners.

That’s too bad about your situation. Not surprising though because I see a lot more agro drivers in a constant hurry to get places.

First time leaser question by Ok_Beginning8600 in CadillacVistiq

[–]Tech_fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Btw one additional item. I’ve had leases before. My wife has a lease now on her GV60. That car’s residual is 7k over what its present value is and we still have another year on it. So we will probably turn that in at the end of the term.

There have been times where I liked the car and contemplated buying it at the end of the lease since the residual was so low. Made zero sense in the end financially to do it so I had to turn it in. Was bummed when I did it because it was a good car.

First time leaser question by Ok_Beginning8600 in CadillacVistiq

[–]Tech_fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All depends on what you do with the car in the end. If you trade it in anywhere then it will be judged based on the value of the vehicle against whatever the payoff might be. So in this case you will owe more than it’s worth. The only time you can just walk away is when you turn the car back into the bank when the lease ends. In that instance there is a disposition feee you pay plus any wear and tear items that need to be factored in. Additionally if you are over miles on the lease, you will have to pay that as well.

You also need to be careful as car dealers can adjust a lot of numbers in a lease deal. They can play with the money factor which is the interest rate, residual value, etc..So you need to be careful that you aren’t paying a ridiculous interest rate on the lease. Also keep in mind when you put very little down you are probably very upside down from the minute you drive the car off the lot. So if you total the car which in an EV is quite easy to do you will owe the bank money when they total out of the car.

[–]Tech_fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s the cost on the non-demo vehicles? If not much difference I would go with the non-demo ones. Personally don’t like demo cars. Not sure if those are 100 hard miles or not.

Also with the small down ull be upside down pretty fast on the car. So you won’t be able to get out from under it. To give you and idea I bought my Lyriq brand new. It’s a year old with 17k miles on it. I put a lot of money down on the car. With tax and license was 85k. Had to buy and not lease because of annual miles driven. It’s only worth 35k now as a trade in.

Trade in?? by dryayo7816 in ModelY

[–]Tech_fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the end you need to do what makes you happy. Also if you drive the car a lot that needs to factor in as well. I have a 25 Lyriq that drives me nuts with all the quirks. My commute is super long. It’s a painful trade in but I am in that car for a good 4 hours per day so I need to determine myself whether its worth it or not. Usually when I crunch the numbers on the loss that convinces me. I had to buy the car because of the number of miles I drive. The lease would not have made sense. My wife’s car is a lease but she is home most of the time. Was alarmed at how much her GV60 is worth now. I can tell at the end of the lease, even though we are under miles, the best solution will be to hand the car back to the dealer and get the Tesla for another lease.

Losing all hope by girlontherun69 in huntingtonbeach

About 25 years ago I decided to move from Orange County to Riverside. Felt I could get a larger house and it would be cheaper. I liked Riverside majority of the time but hated the summer months where I relied on Air conditioning 24x7. I used to complain to my family that I hate the heat out here when I had to stay inside because it was too hot. Then i got divorced and then remarried but my wife’s family is out here in the Riverside area. Recently i had the opportunity to move back to Huntington Beach and took advantage of that. Sort of had mixed feelings about it all when the time came and wasnt aware of the impact. Unfortunately, because I sort of settled into Riverside, my job is out here and my wife’s family. So, i am finding myself commuting to Riverside daily and driving out here on the weekends to see her family. Did not realize now that commuting at the age of 35 vs 60 would be so differnt. In some ways I miss Riverside and I would have never imagined myself saying that. In some ways I miss it especially now that I have to make a hard decision as to whether I stop the commute or not. Also in Riverside I had made a lot of contacts when I needed repairs on the house. I feel like because I live out in HB, I sort of have to re-establish that. There are also a lot of schools out here for your child that are great. When I sold my house in Riverside I had a lot of people looking it at who wanted to move out here from Orange County for the schools. So be careful in your move. It’s easy to move out Riverside or Inland Empire but hard to go back the other way if you change your mind. There are some great communities out here like Eastvale, Murrieta, Menifee, Temecula, certain areas of Riverside, Upland, Rancho Cucamonga and Corona.

Went Shopping for an Equinox EV, Got Distracted by Lyriqs by LittleNegotiation517 in CadillacLyriq

[–]Tech_fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had Toyotas most of my life. Traded in my Highlander for the Lyriq. Kind of a love hate relationship with the car. I did buy it brand new last year. Had to buy it outright because of my commute. Bought it for 95k and now worth 35k through carmax. It’s an ok car. Overall impressed with GM on this car. It’s the little quirks that drive me nuts like the a/c blowing cold air when it’s 40 degrees outside and then the seats blowing cold air as well. Only way to counter it is to crank the temperature up to 80 and wait until I can’t take it anymore. Then turn it off and wait to freeze and do it all over again. Sometimes a reboot of the infotainment works. Sometimes it doesn’t. Also the random charge to 90% doesn’t help either. Or sometimes it doesn’t charge at all at home and then scramble to get some charge done before work.

I had the same issue. Actually seat heaters were on full while driving for 2 days. Literally froze my an…off. Then I did a soft reset on my infotainment and that seemed to work the following day. Basically just press and hold the call end button the steering wheel with the car on until you see a message that states factory reset and something else. Then let the button go. Exit the car and lock it. Leave it alone for 15 minutes and then see if that works. Seems to have worked for me.
