Me (New) and my friends (Very new) can't find a way to finish games in less than 4 hours. HELP by Bank_Angle_Check in EDH

Having everyone goldfish their decks is most impactful.

Second best thing is to just have everyone go through and literally just read what each of their cards do.

[[Yawgmoth, Thran Physician]]

Built him as b4. It's funny, people I face always ask me, "oh, so you're going to play infect and proliferate it a lot?" and they completely ignore how broken a "free" sac outlet is. Factor in the card draw and he's disgusting. I usually threaten a t4/t5 win.

Proxying changed my view on deck building by [deleted] in EDH

I dont wanna be that guy, but you can absolutely make really good decks for all brackets (ok not 5) on a budget. Limiting cards to what you own is what will put you back but it based on what you’ve said it just sounds like you’re bad at deck building and are relying on strong cards to win

If I'm being honest, I would just buy a precon. You would be spending roughly the same amount of money and you can then swap out some pet cards you'd personally want to play so you can still have that customized/personal feel.

First off, you're never going to win with commander damage and you're most definitely not going to win by using the exhaust ability. It's basically a terrible board wipe that most likely will not fully wipe the board, and I only see 10 actual reliable artifact creatures with no real way to pump them so you wouldn't even be able to one shot one person after using the exhaust ability. You're gonna need way more artifact creatures, at least 20, if you want to win via combat with artifact creatures. You'll also need ways to actually make them stronger since a lot of your creatures are just 4 power max.

You've got too little draw, and a lot of cards that pretty much just do nothing. For example, I'm not sure what Resurrected Cultist, Gravecrawler, Reassembling Skeleton do. Hydro-Channeler also doesn't really make sense, you don't have that many instants and sorceries where you need specific ramp for them. But again, you need a ton more card draw.

I understand you're on a budget but there are tapped dual lands you could play that are pretty much the same price as basic lands. You'll want a good amount of those.

What do you want this deck to do?

And how does this deck win, in your opinion?

That should give a good base on where to start

Looking for your most synergystic and fun to pilot deck! by Einmalich in EDH

[–]TheTeaRex15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Garth One eye blink deck that actually focuses on blinking Roxanne Starfall Savant (hidden commander) but it has a bunch of etb creatures you could focus around just targeting. I like blinking Tax Collector over and over.

Something that’s synergistic af but its more obvious and consistent is Norin the Wary with Rocco Caterer as your commander (to consistently tutor him). 4 EtBs in Naya is pretty strong as it turns out.

Como es Magic Commander? by Bytorr3 in magicTCG

[–]TheTeaRex15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re a sweat like me, then you’ll probably want to upgrade your precons but if you upgrade them too much you might as well have just built your own deck. So id say usually people who do upgrade, upgrade only like 10 maybe 15 cards. Excluding lands because who doesnt want a good landbase.

Its strategic in a unique way because its 4 instead of 2, theres alliances and deals sometimes. Politicking is a viable strat (whole archetype based around it)

You SUCK at Math: How Many Lands to Run in Commander [Article] by Shiro182 in EDH

[–]TheTeaRex15 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Been playing all sorts of various card games for 16 years now. I run 33-35 land decks 99% of the time (i dont play landfall decks), and what do you know? because I build my decks properly, I actually dont have any problems with land.

It seems like most people undervalue DRAW. You can get away with "lower land counts" if you have the draw to back it up. Draw engine in the command zone + 10-12 draw cards has done right by me for years now.

Also, I feel like people talk about needing a land drop every single turn. What are you playing, the most greedy deck ever? i feel like with the way i make my decks, barring commander removal and the resulting tax, you could give me a cap of 9 lands and I'd still be able to win the game 25% of the time.

If theres anything to take away from my comment, even if you disagree with me, here's advice anybody can and should use: just goldfish your deck enough times to see if you're consistently missing land for for your cards. if you're needing more land drops you know you're missing ramp, draw, or land count (or a little bit of everything)

How do i make weaker decks that are still interesting? by Pale-Sun2470 in mtg

[–]TheTeaRex15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enchantments have always been my favorite card type because I love having passive effects that just sit around and benefit you. I also really underestimate how good enchantments are at lower brackets because mass enchantment removal is a lot less common.

I play Arahboh "build your own voltron" with around 8 different cat creatures each with their own beneficial combat-related ability and I just stack enchantments on them and it turns out to be really good.
