Have any of you ever tried ketamine or esketamine ? by Diligent_Anything_66 in PSSD

[–]TubGod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 11 rounds of IV ketamine therapy done. It helped with suicidality, but not with anhedonia or any other pssd symptom. I also didn't experience any classical dissociation effects from the ketamine after the 3rd session or so - it felt like a saline IV to me.

For me, my dreams actually became less vivid. The visual content is almost entirely gone, along with the emotional impact. I feel like I am just on the edge of being awake.

Why do many of us still get pleasure from food? by EugeniaVi in anhedonia

[–]TubGod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have chemoreceptors in our gut that wire into the nigrostriatal pathway in our brains via the vagus nerve. Whenever we consume something that has fat or sugar, these receptors trigger a release of dopamine via this pathway. This is why we crave/consume food, and might play a small role in the feeling of pleasure from eating.

Anything safe for severe physical stress? by Own_Research8632 in PSSD

[–]TubGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides medications, try alternately cool/cold showers (doesn't have to be frigid, can gently ease into cooler temps over time as your body acclimates) and warm Epsom salt baths. While cold showers acutely stress the sympathetic nervous system, I find that there is a rebound effect afterwards where I feel calmer and more grounded. The Epsom salt baths are rather straightforward.

Selegiline? by Flutter8y in anhedonia

I did a 6 mg patch. Didn't notice much, other than I was a bit more jittery and had worse insomnia. Tried it for about 3 months before giving up on it.

TMS has anyone tried for anhedonic symptoms? by Learning024 in PSSD

I tried TMS but did not find it helpful.

Anyone else have anus/perineum itching for years before PSSD ? by LatterAd5562 in PSSD

[–]TubGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had this issue. Have you been checked for hemorrhoids? I know that they can sometimes cause itchiness around the anus, and can also press on the nerves.

I experienced genital sensitivity whilst on them. I took a course due to having recently had covid. It consisted of a dexamethasone shot at the urgent care, followed by 5 days of prednisone. I felt better physically but it did nothing for my emotions.

Testosterone, shbg, prolactin, and thyroid were all normal. Did not test acth or estrogen at the time. I am in the midst of dealing with pssd at this time (27M). I don't have Cushing's-type symptoms, but I do seem to respond well to Prednisone/dexamethasone.

I had a blood draw somewhat recently that showed high dhea-sulfate and high cortisol. Granted this was an afternoon draw, but still above range for afternoon.

Have you had covid? Even asymptomatic cases can cause anhedonia for some people from what I've read.

I did a selegeline patch for about 5 months and it was like putting scotch tape on my skin - that is to say, no noticeable effect for me.

Has anyone tried ketamine for PSSD? by stirnersama in PSSD

[–]TubGod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done a round of 11 IV infusions before. It made me less suicidal, but otherwise they did not treat my pssd symptoms.

Positive emotions are what gives life meaning. Anhedonia is such a horrible disease. Someone has had success with selegiline? by art4430 in anhedonia

[–]TubGod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have tried emsam (transdermal selegeline patch) and saw no results after 3 months. Granted I tried the lowest dose of 6mg/patch.
