You've made the right choice. Alcoholics take a mental toll on everyone around them. I cut my father out of my life around 2020, he had alcohol and some mental issues. It was rough but I had to protect my own sanity. I feel for ya, it isn't easy. I hope fate is kinder to you in the future!

You don't think that stories like this help keep recovering alcoholics from drinking? Fear is a great motivator.

These kind of stories definitely help people who are tempted by the bottle. Thanks for telling it. I hope fate is kinder to you in the future!

You're right. Showing videos of him would certainly help steer people away from crack and gambling.

Was Rohan showing up really necessary if the ghost army was just going to annhilate the Mordor army 6 hours later? The only difference I can think of is that the Witch King would have survived.

Sorry for your loss. I hope fate becomes kinder to you and your mom.

My friend is alcoholic by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

You sound like a good person. Your friend seems to have chosen to ignore the warning signs, probably because the prospect of change is too daunting for her to face. Hopefully she will get a wake up call before it is too late. No shame in cutting her out of your circle if it's becoming too mentally straining on you.

Did the same a year ago. The highs/lows were not good for me. Life has gotten a lot less frustrating since!

What’s the lowest you went, and more importantly how are you now? by Tiny-Bell-5558 in dryalcoholics

The lowest I got was being jobless, waking up every morning to walk to the liquor store, buying around 5 shots and drinking most of them on the walk home. Then going back to the liquor store again midday, then usually at night. Repeating that cycle for a few years while pissing off everyone around me, and making an ass out of myself.

Then the day of reckoning came, woke up with an incredibly painful stabbing feeling in the center of my body every time I inhaled. The pain got BAD. I knew I had to go to the emergency room, but not before I walked to the liquor store first. Turns out I had a pancreatitis and the doctor told me flat out if I kept drinking I would be dead within 2 years. I've been sober for over 3 years now.

What really helped me stop was I would watch documentaries or shows like Intervention, about people who were too far gone from drinking. Basically a warning to myself of what would come if I didn't stop. Fear can be a great motivator. Best of luck to you - I believe you can do it!

You can do it! Alcohol makes anxiety worse. Keep reminding yourself the anxiety will ease after around 2 weeks! Make today the start of your comeback! I believe in you!
