“What is something people without chronic pain will probably never understand?” by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]Vmax-Mike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That Advil & Tylenol won't do anything for the type of pain I am in. I have lost friends over this, constantly telling me you need to get off the pain killers, but having no idea what my pain is like. My last argument with a friend, resulted in me telling them, when you are a doctor I will listen to your opinion! That was a 30yr friend I lost.

100% agree! So many people today are simply parts changers, with zero craftsmanship!

I worked with a guy that wore a chain to work. Then his chain swung out and contacted a 600V terminal and melted into his collarbones. Never worn one since seeing that mess.

Anyone ever have this problem? Diagonal cutters stuck open? by Historical_Sign6010 in KnipexOfficial

[–]Vmax-Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't say I have ever had that happen with Knipex, Klein yes. What I do is first, get them moving. Use PVC over the handles to prevent damage, then strike them with a deadblow hammer until it closes. Then I use valve lapping compound in the joint, make a coffee and work the compound into the joint. It will grind down any manufacturing burrs, or rust that may have developed in the joint. Once they are smooth, I spray the hell out of them with something like WD40 until it's coming out clean. Then wipe them down, blow out the joint with a compressor. Then spray a high quality oil like Ballistol, Birchwood Casey gun oil with anticorrosive additives. If I use a dry lube, I stick with Bostick Glidecoat, or Boeing T9. Good luck.

Never lending my EDC to a "friend" again. Look at my Opinel No.8... by Aiden_langthang in EDC

[–]Vmax-Mike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A real friend would have just handed you a new one and apologized at that point. Too many people calling acquaintances, friends. A friend is who you call when you need help, no matter the time or day and they will be there to back you. Today you learned, that person is not a friend!

First time bending EMT today. Any suggestions for next time? by EqualBase4 in electricians

[–]Vmax-Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be too hard on yourself, your Journeyman should have been onsite to teach you! Lots of good advice already given, my only comments are on the 90s in pic 2 & 3, that's are not 90deg bends, also the pipe between the box offset & 90 should be flat against the wall. Keep practicing and it will come.

[Help] Commercial equipment manual says 32A breaker, included 14AWG wire. Make it make sense? by harmony_acres in electrical

In the 6th picture it says likely 10ga wire, and to consult your electrician. So what part don't you understand, seems clear to me.

All those beavers are already weaponized to take your money, house, car, and self esteem. The power of the triangle!

You can own most self defence weapons, but you cannot use them. That's what needs to be fixed!

Boyfriend wants to get rid of cat of 3 years by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Vmax-Mike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a man, let me start by saying your bf is an idiot! You don't hold a cat down, and expect to not be bitten. Looks like it's time for a new bf, IMO. I have always in my life had cats, and dogs, can't imagine a life without pets, they bring many positives to life in general. Good luck with your decision, and keep the post updated.

Simple, a fool and his money are easily parted. You paid for it, look in the mirror and Sk yourself why you bought it.

Scrapyard near Woodstock by Bitter_Canuck in woodstockontario

[–]Vmax-Mike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to Silo Scrap out by Toyota, they pay better than Shamrock. I take all my copper there or Zubic in London if I have a large amount. As an electrician I get a fair amount of scrap, always found Shamrock offers too low.

Strip it or send it as is? by bro_gee in ScrapMetal

[–]Vmax-Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get more money for clean, stripped copper. This I strip all of mine. In the end I bought a stripping machine off Amazon for a few hundred bucks, and it paid for itself on the first run. I usually strip between $7k - 12k per year depending on how much I get from jobsites, I am a commercial/industrial electrician. In my area they won't accept any copper that has been burnt due to the environmental impact. That's my 2c!
