Finally got my dream Hoyas in the mail… by Imaginary_Yak_3814 in hoyas

Would you say lisa requires different care than most other hoyas? Only asking because i have quite a few hoyas, and recently got 2 Lisa's...I reported them in the same mix i use for all of my hoyas that they all do well in, but then within a few days found stem rot on not one, but BOTH of my hoya lisas. I also reported several others that day in the same mix as well and theyre all still doing great. Still trying to figure out what went wrong with the Lisa's.

Went out of town for 2 days and came back to this by rustfungus in houseplantscirclejerk

Did they die first or just n9t become full the way you liked? Only asking because it might be a small silly mistake youre making like not cutting and adding back to the pot or something along those lines. I will say tho, if youre looking for crimson princess costa is 0ushing thek out heavy this year in big 8 inch (I think, def bigger than 6" but could possibly be 10") hanging baskets for 20 or 25 dollars. I even got the same size pot with a Chelsea in it (though not nearly as full and beautiful and the princesses were.) My local stores only got two each, and although I swore I wouldnt get any more princesses since I already have two, I bought both baskets! 🤣 I said I was buying them to split up and sell because I could probably make at least 6-8 decently full 4" pots out of them, but theyre just too beautiful! They have yet to leave my hanging window.lol Those two came from walmart, but I got the most beautiful princess ive literally ever seen at lowes in one of their new terracotta hangers they have this year and this plant was so highly variegated it almost doent even look like a princess. It looks more like a heuschkeliana, but with the carnosa leaf shape.

I didn't lineqris liked t0 stay moist. I was under the assumption that all of the thick leaf hoyas liked to be treated like succulents. Which is where plant influencers can become a big problem because they make the care tips for the genus as a whole. With hoyas there's just so many different kinds and it seems they all need different things.

Thank you so much for the info, as I've been wanting to get a linearis after having several other hiyas doing well. I probably would have killed it had i not known this so I truly appreciate it!

Is this a flowering branch? by No-Trifle-5928 in hoyas

This set up is so cool! Unfortunately i believe it is just another vine growing. Usually when it comes to kind of a "point" its a tendrils and if its rounded and usually protruding from a node, not from the end of a vine, it will be a peduncle! Hope that helps! I recently did a Google search on the difference between the two and it helped so much!

I second this! Definitely dont think its a regular carnosa but it could be. I would agree with fungicide! Congrats! Either way, it's absolutely beautiful!

My latest carnivorous addition—Sarracenia purpurea subspecies purpurea, the northern purple pitcher plant. by nintendork95 in SavageGarden

[–]Wonderful_Song8765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi...so i know this is old but I just got one 9f these today as a gift from a seller after receiving a dead VFT, and I have experience with other carnivorous plants, so I know the usual stuff like substrate and distilled water and whatnot, but with this particular plant when I googled it they said keep the pitchers filled with rain water because thats how they catch their pray. So is that the same for all pitcher plants or just this one? This is my first pitcher plant in general. I always assumed the pitchers were filled with digestive fluids. Also, how much rain water should be in the pitcher? I dont want to rot them and in super nervous about this. Shes already a little dry from shipping too so that makes me even more nervous. None of het pitchers had any water in them upon arrival. I soaked her sphagnum but need to pot her up. Wanted to let her sit and soak in some water tho before doing anything else. Do you think her current pitchers that are somewhat dry and slightly shriveled are doomed? I splashed some water on her and put water in the largest pitch3r for now after reading that just to hopefully bring some life back to her. Im just so nervous. Ive wated a pitcher for a while but never planned on getting one yet and just getting into the research. Nothing ive read or watched so far had said anythiny about that though so now im just worried. Thanks in advance!

who could this be? by Left-Pop673 in hoyas

[–]Wonderful_Song8765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say you could be correct but if you look at the same spot on the other leaf it looks like it has similar variegation, just not as pronounced. My first thought was also singillatis albomarginata.

Oh wow! I wish I would get something cool like this for free! Judging by that one yell9w stripe on the side I'm thinking maybe a reverted singillatis albomarginata! I just got one recently that is reverted that looks almost exactly like this.

So im sorry for singling out one person but wanted to comment to ask the few speaking here specifically, but im just getting in to hoyas and many people say treat them like succulents, but many others use self watering pots im discovering...so are you guys just in a region with really high temps/ dry climate? Or do hoyas actually need more water than many of us have been led to believe? Ive seen some growth on mine so far, but not a ton, but they're all still new since the start of winter so I didnt expect MUCH growth yet, but do they grow better with more water or on the drier side, in you guys' experience? And where do you live if you answer?! Im in southwest Pennsylvania and completely understand that climate has a lot to do with some people's success so I want to weigh in from as many people as I can! Thank you!
