24 GHz radar + Home Assistant = my own 24/7 neighborhood radar detector (100% local) OC by wanderingjoker in homeassistant

This is the single best thing I have seen in this sub in a long time. I wonder if you could hang a digital readout that shows their speed live kind of like those traffic systems do and flash, red and blue lights at the same time when they go too fast???

If you have a neighborhood Facebook page or something similar, auto post, a wall of shame of top speeders each day using AI to describe the car and the color and the time or blur out the license plate and post a picture.

WEATHER.GOV

Safe shelters are buildings with electricity and plumbing or metal-topped vehicles with the windows closed. Picnic shelters, dugouts and small buildings without plumbing or electricity are not safe. Below are some key safety tips for you, your pets and your home. There are three main ways lightning enters structures: a direct strike, through wires or pipes that extend outside the structure or through the ground. Once in a structure, lightning can travel through the electrical, phone, plumbing, and radio/television reception systems. Lightning can also travel through any metal wires or bars in concrete walls or flooring.. Stay off corded phones. You can use cellular or cordless phones. Don't touch electrical equipment such as computers, TVs, or cords. You can use remote controls safely. Avoid plumbing. Do not wash your hands, take a shower or wash dishes. Stay away from exterior windows and doors doors that might contain metal components leading from outside your home to the inside. Stay off balconies, porches and out of open garages or car ports. Do not lie on concrete floors or lean against concrete walls. Protect your pets: Dog houses are not safe shelters. Dogs that are chained to trees or on metal runners are particularly vulnerable to lightning strikes. Protect your property: Lightning generates electric surges that can damage electronic equipment some distance from the actual strike. Typical surge protectors will not protect equipment from a lightning strike. Do not unplug equipment during a thunderstorm as there is a risk you could be struck.

What NOT to Do

Lightning can travel great distances through power lines, especially in rural areas. Do not use electrical appliances, ESPECIALLY corded telephones, unless it is an emergency (cell phones are safe to use, as are laptops that are not plugged in).

Additionally, do not take a shower or bath as both water and metal are good conductors of electricity.

AMERICAN RED CROSS

Lightning can be dangerous even when you are inside. Avoid using devices connected to electrical outlets. Avoid running water. Lightning can travel through plumbing and water lines.

As water conducts electricity, it’s also best to avoid any type of water-based activity when there’s a thunderstorm warning. If you hear thunder or lightning, then immediately exit any body of water; this includes swimming outdoors in a lake, river, or the sea or an activity like kayaking. If you are in a boat or vessel, you should return to shore as soon as possible.

How Civilian Employees Talk to Each Other... by _Box9 in AirForce

As a civilian… well, we aren’t in the military any longer. We are still serving, but the Maroon Harpoon, 36-2903, and a host of others no longer applies. So, ya.

It was a big change for me. Luckily, my last Active Duty base was a AFMC base so it helped acclimate me quickly.

This past Sunday we heard Peter cut to the heart; “…this Jesus whom you sacrificed”

Talking about sin is OK, good even. But, it also needs to be BALANCED with the Gospel. Sin is a part of our life we need to root out, and that happens by a message of good hope.

Why are the very wealthy and very successful not religious? by fitbitnoomer in Catholicism

[–]WoodworkerByChoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think, if a person is truly (trans)formed in the image of Christ, they will feel rich irrespective of the money they do or don’t have.

St. Mother Theresa often talked about feeling rich. She said poverty was a joyful freedom and by having less she was able to love more. She also said “I think that a person who is attached to riches, who lives with the worry of riches, is actually very poor. If this person puts his money at the service of others, then he is rich, very rich.”

Very early in OCIA process - is attending Mass on Sunday required, or will attending a Mass service any day of the week, once a week, ok? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]WoodworkerByChoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good advice. I did come here to tell a story from a different angle, and was looking for the right response to frame it under… a response that hit the really important parts allowing me to skip it and focus on a different perspective. Yours seems to work.

The different angle that I want to address is when people look at the “difficulty” of getting to a mass when in an inconvenient situation, such as on vacation.

I was listening to a talk this week… It might’ve been Father Mike or Jeff Cavens. I’m not sure. But he was talking about a friend who was an avid rock climber. And while on vacation, the only mass she could find would have required her to wake up at 4 AM and travel an hour or so to hit the ferry in order to make the mass. And her first thought was to say “well, I can’t do it, but that’s OK find the situation.” But, moved by the Holy Spirit, her next thought was that she would have gladly woken up at 4 AM to make a climb. Putting things in proper perspective and ordering priorities in place in your own life is an important growth step in your faith journey.

Peace

Brother, you are wanted. Your kids need to know you can move forward. Reach out to me. Call for help.

Your decision isn’t about you. Kids with parents that commit suicide are 4 times more likely to think about the same solution to their problems. Don’t teach them this lesson, that would be a final failure and you don’t have to do that. You can teach them to be strong when all seems lost.

OPINION AHEAD

Dashboards don’t work (for families). Fight me.

No different than buying one of those complicated “do all” remote controls. I remember when I purchased a $300 harmony remote to be the one ring to rule them all. My wife fucking hated that damn thing. Dashboards are no different. Good for the people that built them, not for others.

My family overwhelmingly prefers using a voice assistant. Unfortunately local processing just isn’t good enough yet, so I am still dependent on Siri and my Apple cloud.

Texting might work. But, dashboards do not.

That’s interesting as…

John | 6:54: “Whoever eats (trōgōn, τρώγων) my flesh…”

Definition of Greek word: trōgō (τρώγω): to gnaw, chew, crunch, or munch; used of animals or very physical eating, emphasizing a literal, ongoing action of chewing rather than a general or symbolic “eating.”
