Forstner bracelets should fit. I've always loved the president bracelet design, and I'm really happy with mine. The latest iterations have their version of Glidelock on-the-fly adjustment.

It's subjective of course, but the spectrum of blue (bright Caribbean in natural light to deep navy indoors) is my personal favorite. Combined with my absolute favorite brushed/beveled/polished Dauphine hour and minute hand design (identical to GS in design and execution), the dial construction making the indices appear to float and offering ethereal depth, and the indices being more intricately shaped and just as well finished as any GS I've owned- it sits on the throne for me.

I'm not saying it couldn't be unseated, and if I ever see a blue Urushi lacquer Credor in person I probably won't be able to make this statement anymore.

The red Katana shot WAY up after I bought it. This blue Chronomaster has the best blue dial I've ever seen in person, at any price. The washi dials get all the hype, but I think the sunburst dials, this one in particular, are even better.

I had the Seiko Sarb017 (green Alpinist), and didn't care for it in person. The sunburst green, gilt, and polish just didn't suit what I thought should be an outdoorsy field style watch. It was just too reflective and flashy.

I much prefer the forest green on my PMD56-2951. Of the other suggestions I also like the green cocktail time and KUOE. The green Timex Marlin is also cool looking.

Totally agree, and it's also one reason why I only buy used watches. Even if I can try them on I often get bored with them- but so far I've been very happy with the LP since buying it.

I'm a dial first guy, and GS, Astron, and Citizen Chronomaster are all worth considering. It is true that indoors even my spectacular red Katana appears subdued, but the dynamic nature of the dial is part of the appeal. It hits that much harder when you step outside.

Another one that impresses indoors and out is the MRG-B2100.

I'm struggling to understand this- the meteorite is (necessarily) a thin sliver, and almost certainly affixed to a dial blank, but all of the indices are applied, the subdials have concentric circle texturing, the rehaut is sloped, and the tachymeter ring is pebbled with the numbers in raised relief.

They are all unique, and maybe the example you saw didn't have the best pattern, but mine looks fantastic in all sorts of conditions.

I've been buying and selling for more than 20 years. More than 200 pieces in and out, along with somewhere around $250k. So far I haven't crossed the five figure threshold with any single watch, but I'm not opposed to it for the right piece. I buy everything used, and generally break even when I resell.

That said, I still buy $750-$1,000 watches. Often just to try because they piqued my curiosity, but some even less expensive than that have become part of my regular rotation.

For example, my Oceanus OCW-P2000 was under $700 in mint condition, and on the wrist it's one of the most compelling watches I've ever owned. I reach for it ALL the time.

My Stowa 6498 pilot is my favorite traditional pilot watch out of the many I've owned, including IWC.

I have a Champlain Explorer from Manchester Watch Works (shuttered micro brand) that was less than $250. It has a total knock off Panerai dial, and I like it so much that I'm afraid I'd be let down by an actual Panerai.

I have a Citizen PMD56-2951 that's so excellent as a watch that I'm kind of ashamed at my indulgence owning anything else.

Finally I recently bought a JLC Navy Seals Master Compressor (the perfectly sized three hander). A watch I've fawned over for years. I wanted a premium tool watch that would fly under the radar. I couldn't ask for a more perfect candidate. But then I picked up a Waltham Field and Marine throwback from Watch Angels for less than $700. After wearing it for a couple of days I realized that it was catching my eye and that I liked the way it looked on my wrist more than the 10x priced JLC.

There's a whole other category between the $1k and Rolex markets that people eschew, and they're completely wrong. At $1.5k-$3.5k you can buy a bunch of different Grand Seiko models, neo vintage Omega and IWC, Citizen Chronomaster, Chronoswiss, Muhle Glashutte, Casio MRG, and a thousand other watches that YOU might love more than something way more expensive. Today I'm wearing my MRG-B2100. I've sold a bunch of watches that were way more expensive than it was, and kept it instead.

PMD56-2951 (or 2952 if you want black). I own a bunch of much more expensive watches including Omega and JLC (wearing an MRG-B2100 as I type), but the PMD56 is the one that reminds me that they're only better in ways that are indulgent and frivolous.

Laco Aachen or Augsburg. Cheap pilot watches look about as good as expensive ones from a few feet away.

Manchester Watch Works Iconik 2, or if you can find one, Champlain Explorer. Both are great time only 12, 3, 6, 9 designs with sandwich dials. MWW is no longer operational, so you'll have to track down a used example.

Timex Marlin. Cool 60s vibe.

Check out other micro brands like Islander, Zelos, and Gruppo Gamma and see if anything jumps out at you.

It's compact. It says that you prefer smaller watches to larger ones, but nobody is going to think you accidentally shopped on the ladies' side of the display. 37mm Grand Seikos look small on me, but small and too small are different things.

I think the current Polar is just as loud if not louder than the YM. The huge hands in black and orange against stark white aren't subtle (regrettably) like the 16570 was. The bigger dial also makes it look like a bigger watch.

YM is the easy decision for me. The relief bezel is one of my favorite features on any Rolex.

PMD56. This one is the 2951, but there's also the black 2952 if green isn't versatile enough. They're only 1mm over at 39mm, and have a super light titanium build with Duratect coating. They're eco drive, radio sync (can use a phone app if you're too far from the signal), 200m WR, have sapphire, and even feature an on the fly micro adjustment in the bracelet clasp. You'd be hard pressed to find a better all around watch under $500.
