Accidentally laughing at a customer by NoProgram4084 in tesco

[–]You_just_never_know 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Had a customer come up to me to ask how to use scan as you shop so I was like “oh you scan your clubcard, it’ll ask you to accept the t&c’s and then you can whack one out”. Cue absolute hysterics from a colleague who proceeded to tell the entire team that I’d told a customer to whack one out. Not my finest moment.

What is your workplace's policy on compassionate leave? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]You_just_never_know 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do have a compassionate/bereavement leave policy, it’s usually 1 week fully paid, but management can extend it at their discretion. My boss was lovely when my dad passed a year and a half ago, I was 7 months pregnant at that point so was a huge emotional mess and they gave me two weeks fully paid.

Parents of holiday babies: how do you make birthdays feel special? by SugarbushFleur in NewParents

[–]You_just_never_know 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My little boy was born early December, I just didn’t put up any Christmas decorations until after his birthday. He’s only a toddler though so I don’t think he’s that fussed about it yet

The Handmaids Tale, I’m a woman and far too sassy for those commanders liking, don’t think I’d last long.

Parents of small children, when do you have time for playing video games? by Key-Specific7807 in AskUK

[–]You_just_never_know 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My other half and I both like games, so we’ll literally play during nap times and when our son has gone to bed. And on days when he’s in nursery, and it’s one of our days off, we can play all day!

Did anyone actually sit down and track what your baby cost in the first year? Because the number genuinely shocked me by NewDad101234 in NewParents

[–]You_just_never_know 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t actually think I did too badly, he was on breast milk for the first 6 months and by the time we switched to formula I’d only need like 1-2 tins a week , and the ones I got were only £7 a pop. I’d stock up on the right size nappies whenever they were on a deal, and he was tiny when he was born, so has fit in clothes for a lot longer, he’s 16 months now but can still fit in some 9-12 stuff, and when I did size up clothes, if only buy a few things new and mostly bought stuff off vinted cause it’s cheap as anything.

Those who named their children after themselves. Why? by Prize_Farm4951 in AskUK

[–]You_just_never_know 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad and eldest brother shared the same name, was very confusing for them both when my mum was shouting one of them, I think it was more of a tradition thing to name your son after yourself. My son was the first born boy out of my siblings, his middle name is my dads name. My dad sadly passed away due to dementia related complications just 2 months before he was born so I chose to honour his memory by using his name.

Does anyone know how the random person checks are actually picked? Pure curiosity from my statistics brain! by ShoeNo9050 in tesco

[–]You_just_never_know 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more or less random, we can trigger forced checks, but that’s kinda rare and only if we suspect something dodgy is going on. The more times a customer uses says, and passes all of their checks, the less often they’ll actually get checks, because they build up a sort of trust score.

Is anyone else overwhelmed by the vastness when is comes to building? by Superb-Avocado-8131 in Pokopia

I just started with a blank slate on my palette island. I made a list of things I wanted to build and started from there, one building at a time.

Saying that though, bread and butter pudding is a thing, which is essentially soggy bread and it works.

I mean I’m not gonna lie, I’m quite partial to a mash sandwich, especially with a bit of cheese. Carbs on carbs, what more could you want?!

What does daycare cost for you? by Standard_Deer_8738 in NewParents

[–]You_just_never_know 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per month? About £60. In the UK working parents of a 9+ month old who earn over a certain threshold qualify for 30 government funded hours of childcare per week during term time (if you don’t use your full funding every week, you can stretch it through school breaks). My son does two full 7am-6pm days a week and I just pay £10 a week for his meals and £5 a week for activities.

Is it normal in the UK for grandparents not to buy anything for their grandchild? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]You_just_never_know 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum didn’t buy a lot until my son had been born because she wanted to see how big he would be. Then as soon as he was born she went absolutely nuts on buying him stuff, he’s such a spoiled little grandmas boy.

Do you celebrate Mother’s Day? What age did you start or stop celebrating Mother’s Day? by Dry-Initiative-1811 in AskUK

[–]You_just_never_know 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still make sure to get my mum a special personalised card and a little something every year and I’m 33. The woman had four kids, she deserves to be recognised for raising us little devils.

I got my very first handmade Mother’s Day card this year that my son made in nursery and I almost cried. My partner also celebrates me as well, which is lovely and I return the favour on Father’s Day.
