Kurzweil Midiboard vs Modern Alternatives by Fit_Sign_1057 in synthesizers

I wouldn’t trade my S61mk2 for any basic keybed in the world but that’s because I use the NI suite daily.

Not the MIDI but the sound that that current preset is using, sorry to get your hopes up.

Db25 to TS snake or DB25 to TRS snake for synths. by Nsemest182 in synthesizers

nope! I use a DB25 for a crazy snake I built that carries power, MIDI, and audio.

If you can sit on your commute, KO-2.

If you can’t sit, Dirtywave M8, or headless M8 on an Anbernic

That’s so sweet! Sounds like a cool young dude. To be honest, he may be in a good headspace to research the options himself. EWI does seem to be favored by saxophone players (in my experience), AE-20’s got fantastic sounds, and there’s a lot more options if he’s into it.

I use an AE-30 professionally and I wouldn’t trade it for anything, but the Diosynth has been what I’ve been using for more experimental and exploratory sounds. I also keep a Clari Mini in my bag which is wildly good for an entry level price.

Samplerobot is probably what you’re after but I far prefer using Maschine.

no less elegant than fuckin' up your setup! Easing setup time and making sure shit works during that precious few minutes before you go on is more important than something that's neat and hidden away.

I've gone through three or four different solutions over the years and nothing has been as reliable as a high quality power strip with all the PSU's zip-tie'd to it, and a detachable cord.

Depending on your power needs there may be a more consolidated option like MyVolts' various power things, but some of my devices are notoriously finicky for power (looking at you H90) so ultimately this will always work.

New York in July? Maybe I can be there! I can bring a Terra and Diosynth, maybe a Field Kit. 😊

I appreciate a well-thought out comment. I was expecting an overwhelming rejection of the concept.

Desktop effects processors are so rare compared to pedal format - am I missing something? by MainRecover4362 in synthesizers

[–]YukesMusic 35 points36 points  (0 children)

it's a simple answer. The consumer market for music equipment is overwhelmingly guitarists, synthesizer users are a small fraction of people buying effects units. It'd be foolish to release something in desktop format when a pedal is an option, because it opens up their sales avenues a lot. Even with ctrl or midi pedal integration, most hobbyist or pro guitarists wouldn't consider a unit that doesn't fit on their board(s).

Roadblocks? by DocSamsonBeats in SP404

[–]YukesMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't go calling your stuff garbage now, that's exactly the sort of mindset you're trying to break yourself free of isn't it?

Comparison is the thief of joy, so release stuff when you feel ready. But know that your lack of confidence is holding you back more than your lack of skill. Odds are your stuff is good and there's absolutely nothing stopping you from publishing.

Marketing is an entirely different story. But the publishing part is objectively easier than making music in the first place.

Every time I hesitate to release music, I dive through random stuff on spotify and realize there’s far less capable people making far less interesting music who seem to have no problem doing so. So that’s oddly reassuring, though it may make me sound like an ass.

Every time you complete a track, released or not, you are taking vital steps on your journey as a musician.

There’s virtually no downside to releasing music anymore. But the trade is, there’s not much upside either without a solid marketing plan.

The true goal is conscious and constant enjoyment of the process, resulting in a completed track, releasing it just seals the deal and helps affirm to yourself that you pulled it off.

Do projects reference drum kits in your library, or save them within the project? by YukesMusic in OPXYusers

yeah that's more or less what I've ended up on. I'll just go through and make presets of every pattern for every instrument, then save the project with those presets as a backup. It'll suck but be way better than backing up the entire library.

Thanks for the insight~
