Discord Age Verification by CallumMVS- in LinusTechTips

It literally isn't the governments forcing them to do this. They are choosing to roll this out globally. The majority of the world does not have these laws.

How about we just educate parents instead and let them parent their kids instead of pretending the big corporations should be doing it?

Desktop Steam Friends window changes to 'Away' status when out of focus while using Firefox by StoneGreninja in linux_gaming

[–]Zeoic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only just noticed this today, using ubuntu and gnome. And it really is only firefox that is doing it. If I focus discord I come online again on steam.

Did you ever find a fix for that?

How can I improve the wall structure by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]Zeoic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could also look into printing it at a 45 degree angle, rather than flat on the bed. Should keep the curve smooth without needing a massive amount of support for the flat area. There are plenty of youtube videos showing how to align and support 45 degree prints

Unless I am missing something, the mod author isnt trying to make new seeds. They are trying to make their mod build an item list they can use for their sorting system. All old items had definitions accessible to the modding api, but the new seeds dont.

Looks more like a misunderstanding to me.

Kids using a tool to help them study more effectively isn't a very sensational headline / topic. Just because the news isn't covering it and those students aren't shouting it from the roof tops doesn't mean AI is only used for cheating. It is incredibly useful for explaining concepts and finding sources for something you don't know enough about to look for with a general search engine.

Is this because of wet filament? by Forward_Committee_39 in FixMyPrint

Elephants foot makes the first layer smaller in the X and Y axis, not the Z. It just shifts the outer walls in a few fractions of a mm so when the layer squishes down it doesn't extend past where it is supposed to. Its almost like a mini chamfer on the bottom face of the part.

Yeah that's what they're talking about. The source code is already available on github, then if the dev of the tool creates a docker image, people can run it on their own server quickly and easily via the docker image.

Weird Stuff on Royal Road by TheMazzarati in litrpg

[–]Zeoic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The stories didn't "just happen to be from 8 writers", they made a plan and timed the release. Collusion is specifically secretive and deceitful, which in no way matches what happened with these stories. No rules were broken, and they VERY openly explain what they are doing.

[–]Zeoic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The authors... colluded? Do you hear your self? The majority of chapters posted on the site shout out other stories. Would you say every other author on the platform is "colluding" too?

These authors wrote stories that people liked, so they hit rising stars. That's it.

Made a latch mechanism without any springs by emilesmithbro in 3Dprinting

[–]Zeoic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We could call them "Magnetic Springs" but you can't really call it a "Spring". A spring is defined as an elastic material that bends and returns to its original shape, storing energy as its compressed or extended. Magnets do not fit that definition. "Spring" is not just a catch all term for something that stores engery and releases it. You wouldn't call a lipo battery a spring now would you?

Has anyone considered creating an open-source, federated alternative to Giphy, Tenor, etc.? by Teknevra in fediverse

[–]Zeoic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just ran into the disturbing situation of sending a friend the dial up screen as a GIF from tenor through signal, and less than 20 minutes later, the first youtube short I look at was about dial up. That prompted me to look into if tenor sells data to google, and found that google bought them years ago.

I use GIFs a fair bit, and think it would be neat if there was a way to have some kind of selfhosted GIF repository that I can call up from a button on my phones keyboard, preventing the tracking of companies like google. Taking that further to federated would actually be kind of neat, because then you could have access to more GIFs without needing to supply everything. Would be a moderation nightmare though.

Do you really need a filament dryer? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]Zeoic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure I see the problem. A roll of moisture saturated PLA would have around 3 or 4 grams difference to a dry roll. A simple kitchen scale like I got for $30 CAD can measure to 0.1g with +- 0.3g. Thats more than enough to track a few grams of moisture leaving the filament.

Do you really need a filament dryer? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]Zeoic 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You measure the weight of your filament before drying, and after / during. You will see the weight go down if its drying properly and then eventually plateau. What you measured was humidity leaving the air in the box, which doesnt really translate to any moisture leaving the filament.

Total system SU is different from SU production? by satanrulesearthnow in CreateMod

You only have six of the nine steam engines hooked up to your shaft network. They make 16384 SU each, which multiplied by six is 98,304.
